Afinogenov would skate through 3 or 4 opposing players undressing them but always shoot wide or hit the goalie dead in the chest lol.

Fino has the speed but I also think Gaborik is closer to Bure because he can skate and has the finish.

It's a shame that he's always injured because the guy sure can dominate when healthy.

Cody Hodgson shocker: You don't know his name

By Botchford 09-15-2009 COMMENTS(3) The White Towel

The biggest news out of training camp concerns Cody Hodgson, but it has nothing to do with his back.
Yes, his back is feeling better and he has been cleared for contact drills. And yes, he could play Saturday.
But after Hodgson gave his encouraging medical report, he revealed the biggest surprise of camp. His name has been mispronounced since the moment he was drafted.
Hodgson is actually pronounced Hod-son.
"Yes, the G is silent," Hodgson said. "Some people have dropped the G altogether to make it less confusing. That's how you pronounce my name and that's how I prefer it.
"But there are so many people saying Hodge-son, what am I going to do?"
He's right there, it will take a long time to change the way people say his name, but hopefully that change starts here. But if he's going to draw comparisons to Pavel Bure and Trevor Linden, shouldn't people take the time to get his name right?
As for the back, Hodgson said he wants to take a few practices to see how it responds. But he could play Saturday here in Vancouver. He said it felt 70% better.
Everybody's been pronouncing his name wrong, LOL.

Let's just call him Godson.

AzNightmare 09-16-2009 01:37 AM

Heh, at least his pronounciation is not messed up like Toews.

I don't care what anyone says. Toews =/= Taves.

In all fairness. Bure's game also caused him to be injury riddled from midway of his career on-wards.

:)

Knee problems FTL.

Yeah, knee problems for Bure, Hip problems for Gaborik. Latent injuries are the unfortunate side effect of their game. As if the standard NHL contact wasn't bad enough, all their collisions between players and boards are magnified because these type of players play at an even more exponential speed than their NHL counterparts. It's different when one is young. It's easier to handle anything. But once you age, the latent stuff begins to show.

Here's an example of Hossa. If it were any other guy, the front flip wouldn't have been as pronounced.

It's because Bure skated so fast that he developed knee problems. :D

It's because of that fucker who was playing for Chicago that fucked up his knee. That's why I have no sympathy for him or the guy who went after Nazzy. It's too bad Bert did not cripple that fucker. And you wonder why the NHL does not belong in the top 4 echelon of Major league sports in the states. NHL administration not protecting their money makers FTL.

If you remember, as far as the Russians were concerned in the 90s

1. Sergei Federov
2. Pavel Bure
3. Alexander Mogilny

Keep in mind, Sergei was a Selke winner as well. Must those $400 Nike skates back in the day :haha::haha::haha:

Hondaracer 09-16-2009 11:48 AM

Lol yea the white ones

RTS 09-16-2009 11:58 AM

There will never be another Pavel Bure. Ovechkin comes close (really close), but Bure had crazy speed. The youtube videos look like they are fast forwarding when he's skating.

Tim Budong 09-16-2009 12:02 PM

Ovie is strong on the puck, but his skills to move that puck is no where close to Bure
Ovie's puck strength is one of the reasons hes hungry to score
hes not an easy player to knock off the puck!

but there prob wont be another player with the two stride explosiveness that Bure had EVER

I remember back in the day on TV, they would always say something like "bure is not the fastest skater per se but the fastest dude with the puck"

The Canucks, in their second preseason game, will ice a team featuring 11 Canucks who were with the team at the end of last season: Steve Bernier, Kevin Bieksa, Alex Edler, Michael Grabner, Darcy Hordichuk, Ryan Johnson, Ryan Kesler, Mason Raymond, Sami Salo and Kyle Wellwood.

Oh yes, and Roberto Luongo.

Filling out the lineup against the Ducks: goalie Cory Schneider, defencemen Nathan McIver, Brad Lukowich, Travis Ramsey — who split last season between Manitoba (AHL) and Victoria (ECHL) — Aaron Rome and college signing Evan Oberg.

Additional forwards: Farm veterans Michael Grabner and Alex Bolduc, summer signing Tanner Glass — who spent most of last year with AHL's Rochester — Ronald Petrovicky, Langley's Matt Pope and Mikael Samuelsson.
