^^ wow. |
wow Gillis is taking over |
Francesco must be pretty happy with the job he's doing so far! |
Or Owners don't want to hire another executive in this economy haha. |
What's up with Zherdev? First Columbus trades him away and now the Rangers don't want him either. I don't watch him enough but my view of him is like that of Hemsky; skilled but it looks like he's not trying at times. I know demitra isn't going anywhere but I have to say I'd much rather have Zherdev at $4m than 34yr old pavol. |

Don't know if you would want someone like that on your team. Looks like he's salary hungry and only wants money. Besides, Gillis is not willing to sign someone with ZERO work ethic and someone who takes a lot of shifts off in a hockey game. |

CANUCKS 'PHILOSOPHICALLY' CLOSE TO DEAL WITH LUONGO With the new title of president added to his portfolio, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis says he's closer to locking up his franchise player to a multi-year contract. Gillis spoke to Vancouver's Team 1040 radio station about his new role after Chris Zimmerman resigned from the position and revealed that the Canucks are close to an extension agreement with Roberto Luongo - an deal that that should be completed by training camp. "I think philosophically we're very close and I think to get top players signed it usually does take a longer period of time," Gillis told the station on Tuesday. "We've had a lot of stuff happen in the meantime. We were moving really well and then we had the draft and free-agency and some other distractions occurred. But we feel really confident that we're all on the same page and it's only a matter of everyone getting focussed on the final part of it to get it done. We intend to (get it done before the season). We hope to. I know Laurence (Gilman) has had some discussions with Roberto's agent as early as yesterday. We're getting there and we're confident that we'll get something done." Luongo, 30 is entering the final year of a four-year, $27 million contract. He is coming off a 2008-09 campaign where he posted a 33-13-7 record with nine shutouts and a 2.34 goals-against average. Reports earlier this summer speculated that Luongo and his agent, Gilles Lupien, are asking for a long-term deal that would be at least five years in length worth a minimum of $8 million per season. Luongo will earn $7.5 million next season, with the Canucks taking a cap hit of $6.75 million in the final year of his current deal. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=286840 |
Hopefully Gillis ties down Lu for another 5 years. |

The Grizzlies did a poor job of marketing. The Canucks don't need to do anything - the puck bunnies and the yuppies are still coming in droves. As long as Gillis puts a product on the ice that can make the playoffs each year, the money comes in. |
by the numbers zimmerman actually did a decent job, as they said on the radio it's very easy to take a horrible marketing campaign/team and turn it into a decent model but to maintain and increase profits of an already profitable business is the hard part, and zimmerman actually did a decent job |
Lets face it, the ownership wanted Gillis in charge of the entire team and they got there wish. |

He has shown he knows exactly what needs to be done. His transition from agent to GM has been awesome. |

Probably made by the same team of web designers that were instructed to work with the same template. |
Canucks made 19 Million last year, i believe. in profit. They rank quite high in terms of making money for a team. But like someone said about, they are they only game post-Oct. We're all in a hockey crazy town but for our ticket prices, sometimes I think we live in NY watching the Yankees or TO watching the buds. Frankly i rather pay to watch the yankees in terms of on field product for bang for buck. You know they will challenge for the championship each and every year. I say this....and i'm part of the hockey crazy fans. LOL |
If anyone wants the pre sale code for the NBA pre-season game its : NASH tickets ranging from $13-339. |
