Still a bunch of games remaining. I wouldn't be too worried about streaks yet. A team can get hot now, and then go cold right when the playoffs start.
For all you know, maybe SJ just doesn't want to face the Red Wings first round.

JesseBlue 03-21-2010 10:37 PM

if i have to pick a scary team itll be phoenix. pyatt is carrying the team! hehe...also blame stupid m. schneider for being selfish!

LOL
this may be their best strategy. try to duck the wings! they are the Anaheim of last year if they manage to squeeze through

Ouch, I just sportsnet'd the highlights, it was such a freak accident. Checked from behind, while falling hit in the neck by a point shot..

Later in the vid, they said while at the hospital he regained movement.

The only weakness I see for the Wings is goaltending.

Tim Budong 03-21-2010 10:52 PM

I dont think it matter who the Sharks play
to be honest, no matter how hot they get, the biggest knack is the team producing.

Joe Thornton's playthis year has dropped off. He just doesnt skate anymore. Again, if we were to use the top line as the measuring stick, Marlaeu and Heatley had a great olympics, but they played MUCH better when Thronton wasnt really on the ice, he was always the last man back. The Towes goal in the Gold game had Marleau on, or Towes would join the rush and assist on all those heatley goals

but as of now, the wings can climb to 6th if they continue their clutch play

maybe they want to freefall now and play better in the first round lol

technically they have only started free falling slightly earlier compared to last year since we had the Olympics this year.

Clearly you have not been watching Howard play as of late.

4th best save percentage in the NHL among starting goaltenders at .924

Stats mean shit when it comes to crunch time
Jimmy Howard has alot of support up front as well
Regardless, Jimmy Howard needs to be there when it counts for the wings to make it

SOME stats don't mean shit. For example plus/minus. But a goalies save percentage is a very good stat determining how good he is. Whether or not he will perform well in the playoffs remains to be seen but Howard is not the weak part of the Wings. Watch a couple Wings games and you'll see how good he is. I'm sure you saw all those key saves he made during the Canucks game.

Howard is QUESTIONABLE for the wings. what i said clearly says Howard needs to be there when it matters most. Which means, he can have .960 Sv%, on a team built to withstand and grind out 1-0 or 2-1, and LOSE the game becuz he wasn't there when it mattered most.

of course, with the surging Wings, they dont play for 1-0 or 2-1 scores. He just needs to be there. Osgood tanks the regular season, but why is he so clutch during the post season? because he made the ONE save to turn a game around. Howard needs to prove this before critics can solidify the Wings. Yes, he played great against the nucks, but mid April is a totally different story.

Harvey Specter 03-22-2010 01:29 AM

We'll see how Howard plays until end of the season but my guess is if he tanks a game or two you'll see Osgood back in net.

Different situation. Hasek and Osgood split time as starters that year. This year its entirely Howard's team.

Howard is the reason why Detroit is even in a playoff spot this year. Ask any Wings fan on their board or on hfboards they will say the same thing. Offensively they have gone downhill this year with both Zetterberg and Datsuyk having off years. Alot of that has to do with their injuries and an aging Lidstrom. If Babcock went with Osgood the whole season they'd be in 11th place. Howard took over and carried the team. Although I think they are a good team they won't make it far this year, not because of goal tending but lack of offense. With both Hossa/Hudler gone and an aging Holmstrom/Lidstrom this isn't the same team. Howard's the main reason why they're in contention.

Yup, in the future we are going to have CoHo, Schroeder, Shirokov, Rodin, and Grabner. We'll be called Vancouver Midgets.

And I dont disagree with you on the fact that Howard has played well enough to keep this squad intact and be a threat! The injuries hurt the team, that was true as well. Can we really say Zetteberg and Datsyuk are having off years? both of these guys have missed close to 20games this year, but their points total is still at a point per game pace. The Detroit system doesn't quite allow injuries to completely take full affect and put the team in the back burner.

Mike Babcock DEMANDS forwards to backcheck and not let up. They have done this with or without the best forwards in the line up. The Wings are a model of team composure and chemistry. They are where they are because of this.

The real truth is the Wings will be a threat come playoff time, but if they dont jump past 8th, they most likely will face a Hawks team who can match them up front with speed. This is where Jimmy Howard has to be up for the task. Once again, he might not need to make the big saves, but needs to be there when it all matters. If he's not, then the Wings could be seeing a 1st round exit from the hawks taking flight and gunning this team.

Heres a proud moment!

MR_BIGGS 03-22-2010 09:10 AM

Every year there is talk that the Wings will not get far, or they are old, or goaltending will be an issue, and every year, they prove people wrong. They've had a shit load of injuries this year, and are now getting back to full lineup. I think they will be a threat in the playoffs. I would love to see the Hawks/Wings as a first round matchup.

We'll see how the Wings play tonight against the Penns. Howard is pretty hot right now: Jimmy Howard (G) 4-0-1, 1.75, .929 in last 5 GPI and its on TSN! HD

Got to admit, the second goal they showed was pretty sweet as well

I just hope Luongo finds his "God mode" form again.
As good as he is, I still haven't seen him play like he did the first season he got here in a long time...
