If Mitchell comes back before or during the playoffs and delivers, my confidence will go up a lot!

Things are falling into place to make it seem as though this current team has the right mix of scoring, depth, goaltending, grit, chemistry, defense, role players, clutch players etc to make it into the 3rd adn 4th rounds of the playoffs.

Every line has potential to shine in every game, if Samulson comes back and stays on the first line that's deadly, with Burrows and Kesler playing a shutdown role on the 2nd line vs other teams top lines. The way I see it, if the Sedin line is connecting and being an offensive threat and the other team's coach is matching up their top line against the Canucks, that one less line the Canucks may have to not worry about. So Borrows Kesler line would match up well against other 2nd lines. They need to get Mitchell back though, and Bieksa has to step up. Otherwise, the same thing as last year is going to happen and we're gooing to look slow on the dline and that could be our weakness.

Second round playoff run, true story

What the hell is a second round playoff run? Winning the first round and making the second round is not much of a playoff "run". Is that what you meant??

keitaro 03-19-2010 04:56 PM

I just hope that Kes's 5mil and the other long term lock ups wont hurt us in the future.

From Sportsnet Dan Murphy
Quote:

Next season Twins 6.1, Lou 5.3, Kes 5, bieksa 3.75, salo 3.5, Edler 3.25, erhoff 3.1, Sammy 2.5 Burr 2, Bernier 2 - all cap hits
Thats 42.6M already.

Here is the list for 2010 Vancouver Free Agents
http://www.nhlnumbers.com/freeagents...none&type=team

From that list, players that are in the current Canucks line up are Demitra (UFA), Glass (RFA), Hansen(RFA), Johnson(UFA), Mitchell(UFA), SOB(RFA), Raycroft(UFA), Raymond(RFA), Rome(RFA), and Wellwood(UFA). That's nearly half of the Canucks current roster that is going to be free agents at the end of the season. I am thinking who ever re-signs would want a raise. If we let them go, I hope we can find a equivalent replacement for some of them.

Also I hope that leaves enough room in the Cap, to get a quality D-man. I see Scott Niedermayer, is going to be UFA. Maybe we can get him short term for cheep, thats if he doesn't retire. I remember hearing that he wanted to play for the Canucks, and was willing to take a pay-cut to do so. That was a few years ago, when he ended up signing with the Ducks.

Just some food for though...

He is a restricted free agent. If the Canucks can match other offers then he is ours. But is he really worth it is the question (depending on offers).

I think the Canucks tired them (sharks) down yesterday.

Don't care if the flames get 2 pts today. In the end, they aren't going to make it to the playoff. Think of the 2pts as pitty pts.

He's only worried about the Flames cause they're fighting with Detroit for the final spot.

No kidding smarty pants, im referring to what we always do when people have high hopes, a second round exit.

cctw 03-19-2010 08:34 PM

^ actually i believe the streak is the canucks have never gone past the 2nd round ever since the 1994 run to the finals..at least i've been watching them for so long and i've never seen them gone past 2nd round..

on a side note...burrows is the real steal on our team. Look at his plus minus and he's on the PK every night too!

Tim Budong 03-19-2010 08:41 PM

The canucks haven't made it past the 2nd round since 1994, but if you really think of it, the Canucks were never this solid since 1994. The comparisons to 1994, not even close, the team now is better when looking at it from today's standard. The 1994 team had alot of blue chip guys that was all there for the hockey.

Hondaracer 03-19-2010 10:21 PM

94 was more of a team of destiny than anything, pre-cap era it seemed that more teams that just kind of clicked were able to make the finals and even win the cup

post cap seems to require more of an overall excellent team

Very true indeed! Even today, the micro management involved makes a different. Roger Takahashi's job for the canucks is more than just the trainer to put these guys on the right track. The nutrition and fitness program is finetuned to the smallest detail to suit the needs of the player. The sleep management program that is being used also play a big role! Think of his job as the piece to bring this team together to work like one. I hear that even the coaches and medical staff have to listen/work with him in order to build a team
