At the end of the day it's all about the money. In a game like hockey you never know when your career could be over so you might as well get it while you can Posted via RS Mobile |
I would've thought $4.5 would be Kesler's contract but $5m is still a paycut. He would've gotten $6 on the open market but to a shorter deal. I think the number was $4m at the beginning of the season but with Kes looking at possibly 75 points, a Selke nomination maybe and his superman play at the Olympics, that went to $5m. Still worth it...but not a smokin' deal like $8m for 4 years of THE MONSTER. Either way, we got Kesler under contract...that's reason to celebrate. However, it also means that Willie Mitchell is might be gone at the end of the season. Personally, I think $3.5 is well worth it for Mitchell but I doubt he'll sign for that at the end of the season. Demitra will have to take a huge paycut if he wants to stay which I doubt we'll offer him. Remember we need money to possibly sign Mason Raymond and our ENTIRE defense corp is out in 2011-2012 so we need some fucking money to sign Erhoff hopefully long term and Bieksa. Salo is probably gone at the end of next year and the unfortunate thing is we have no realistic defense prospects. I'd love a Mitchell, Erhoff, Edler, Bieksa core long term. |
The good news is...we have... Sedin-Sedin-Burrows Grabner-Kesler-Samuelson LEFT-CENTER-Bernier LEFT-Rypien-Hordichuk Edler-Salo Erhoff-Bieksa Alberts Luongo That's four empty spots on the roster (plus we have Baumgartner, Shirkov, and a couple others like Oberg on two-ways) that we have around $10m to fill. Considering third liners are about $1-1.5m a piece (think Wellwood money) and a sixth (and possibly fifth since Alberts is not as good as Mitchell) D probably is around the same range of $1.5m, we have quite a bit of cash to spend next year. I'd think Mitchell is the best idea...I can't think of a better shutdown D-man in the league that doesn't cost an enormous amount of money. Don't look for Gillis to make a huge signing. He's smarter than to blow that extra cap space on one big player when he has four big contracts and a number of medium ones on the roster already...and especially with 2011-2012 looking like everyone needs a raise... |
All this makes me respect Burrows even more. So nice to see him do so well. He so deserves everything. I love it when he chirps at the other players. We really lucked out landing him. I think he also inspires the other team mates. On a side note, I think you can trace back the success of many of the present day Canucks to guys like Linden. You can say all you want about people who put up great numbers, like Bure, but you cannot deny the kind of stuff players like Linden bring to the table. That's why his name and number, along with Stan Smyl's is up in the rafters. I think Burrows is one of those character guys who has a big impact on the team. I don't why I'm bringing this up.............. probably because we're sort of talking about the team clicking. I really think this team has what it takes. Let's just hope nobody sleeps with another player's wife and upset the apple cart, LOL. |

As the radio team said yesterday.. Mike Gillis hasn't gotten the respect he deserves Sedins - 6.1m each Burrow- 2m Kes - 5m Lu- 5.3m hit Samuelsson- 2.5m Solid draft picks Now once Demo/Mitchell's cap comes off after this year, that's like what? 7.5m free... I wonder if he'll resign Johnson and Wellwood...if he had to go with 1, I hope he takes Johnson back |
i have a feeling mitchell might resign for equal or even less because imo he'd rather stay in Van than take equal money somewhere else also Gillis might explain to him that he's not convinced on his concussion status and only sign him to like a 1-2 year deal |
It's so good that so many players want to stay here. Whether it be for the climate, the management, or what this city has to offer. Makes being a local Canuck fan that much better. It's a great hockey city. On top of this, I'm sure the recent Olympic experience will put Vancouver and GM Place right up there for all other NHL'ers to think about when looking to move. We've already got a pretty good winning record - a real cup contender. So, still complaining about high prices and shit? Vancouver is awesome - wouldn't want to live anywhere else. |

he plays with so much passion .. i remember one game last year, we were blown out like 6-1 there was no way we'd come back..but we were on the penalty kill and he would still risk his body and block a shot even though the game was pretty much over for us. very few guys do that nowadays. wat a warrior |

Is that Igor Larionov's daughter on CBC? If it is, wow. I remember seeing her at a Canucks practice at the Pacific Coliseum when she was a baby. |
