They probably designed the Richmond Oval too much on the LEED (or greenie tree hugger) side, and didn't overbuild their systems enough. Plus, it being 15 degrees outside, and having 8000 hot, high energy fans inside probably is the worst case scenario for their HVAC and ice-making systems. |
Yep, the weather hasn't been kind to the games. Sunny from tomorrow evening on. Great for showing off the city and surrounding scenery, though. Other weird stuff that has happened....... third hand info, so may not all be true. Joe Biden's car got into an accident (Richmond driver at fault? C-Lai) Zamboni breaks down and then driver screws up and gouges the ice. Extra buses that were gathered from around North America had problems, like couldn't make it up the Sea to Sky. Drivers quitting. Stuff that we don't really hear about at these or any other games. |

I've been reading the NYT blog on the Olympics and I find that a lot of their posts are not very flattering about Vancouver at all.... I find them all very condescending and not really representative of the games as a whole. Maybe I'm just an idealist? http://vancouver2010.blogs.nytimes.com/ Binden post: http://vancouver2010.blogs.nytimes.c...den-motorcade/ Ice resurface problems: http://vancouver2010.blogs.nytimes.c...cing-problems/ |
Bus thing is also true. GF's sister and brother in law are both bus drivers and told me at Chinese New Year Dinner. Buses were from Cali and don't have enough torque to make it up Cypress (they didn't mention Whistler). |
One of the responses from a NY Times reader was interesting. Korea lost the 2010 bid by a couple of votes. These games might have been better off over there, where the weather is colder and more predictable. If you want to see the best in the world do their thing, then conditions should be at its best. Then again as long as the playing field is the same for everybody, it shouldn't matter. Champions find a way of winning, no matter what. |
rofl at the buses for cali -- you can tell immediately which ones they are. all with new paint jobs, cuz they are the oldest POS's that got sent up. not just enough torque, but they are breaking down in the city. i've seen at least 4 broken buses around the lower mainland. |
I cant believe how crazy Mens downhill skiing is. over 1km of verticle drop, 2 minutes of going 150km/h and all the times are within a fraction of a butt hair. |
yeah man crazy ^^ |
I'm just glad we didn't get hit by a crazy snow storm like they've been dealing with on the east coast of the US. I don't think it would have been much fun if the entire city was shut down. And the one thing I've noticed about some of the US media outlets is that they're basically bashing Vancouver at every opportunity they find. I guess their still bitter about not getting the summer Olympics and it's not like their Olympic host cities were prefect. Atlanta had the bombing and other complaints about quality issues. |
