BELL ROGERS VIRGIN TELUS will all get the 9800 Torch, although from their announcements it seems like Rogers will get it first, before the other 3. http://crackberry.com/bell-rogers-vi...when-available Here's a CrackBerry OS6 Quick Review: |
AT&T seems to be the first ones to get this phone as it's being released on Aug. 12 http://www.berryreporter.com/2010/08...ounced-by-rim/ edit: just notice this was posted earlier. whoops |
oh shiittt 9800 torch PC simulator so you can play around with OS6 on your computer right now! download here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/javaappdev/ |
Does anyone know if this phone will work with WIND? On the 3G spectrum, it does indicate 2100Mhz. http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_torch-3203.php |
^ wind 3g is 1700MHz i think.. so it wouldnt work |
Wind is 2100/1700.... EDIT: Nevermind, found my answer, it doesn't work. |
Is there a protection or lock on the touch screen? Maybe like a sleep mode button? If it's constantly rubbing something in your pocket, and the screen is constantly on, your battery will be drained in a day. That's one thing about the old blackberries. They should make it so that when you lock your phone, the screen deactivates until you press combinated unlock key (star, answer). |
Running OS5 my screen only lights up if I hit unlock or any of the command (call/bb menu/back) buttons, and if it's a command key, only for 5 seconds. I don't imagine it's going to be a hige battkill that way. Posted via RS Mobile |

so with this now coming onto Rogers and me originally thinking of upgrading to a bb 9700, depending on the pricing I am wondering if I should go for this or get the new iphone for 149... thoughts? |
Honestly it's all up to you and which you think will suit your lifestyle best I'm going through the exact same thing I'm currently using the iPhone 3g and I've enjoyed this phone so much but now I've really been getting interested in blackberrys for me bbm is what I really want even though I know it's basically like txting I like how you can make individual groups for different things and I sorta like the idea how you can see if your txt has been recieved plus looked at bc theres been times were I've sent out txts and ppl dont get or they get them really late (I never know who's phones at fault) plus a majority of my friends currently have bb and about 5 of us are still using iPhones. The iPhone is pretty insane though I've used it before and it seems like a lot of fun the pictures/videos are amazing. I really don't see anything wrong with it, but now that bb has released a touch screen not as stupid as the click touch screen like the storm I'll probably end up picking this phone down the road. The browser was the biggest concern I had with all bb's because the screens are so small on the curve/bold compared to my phone but now it's got a decent sized screen and a new web browsing kit or whatever even though it's still not as fast or great as the iPhone it's good enough for me to make the switch to a blackberry Posted via RS Mobile |
I know, I like the bbm aspect of it but with the iphone I like the video phone calls but I guess you can only do that with others who also have the iphone and I don't really think I'd use all those apps. I guess it will come down to the price of the torch cause I could always get the iphone later down the road |
Well with video calling you know both people have to be using a wi-fi connection right? It's a cool feature I'll admit but I dint like now the camera on the front of the phone is like 2mp things look kinda blurry, it's alright but........... It's nor that good and I don't see facetime being a hudge thing either I remember the lg shine had face time like 4 yrs ago or when ever it came out Posted via RS Mobile |
fuck rogers say they don't know the price this will come out at :( |
Was planning on upgrading to this from the 9700, but after looking into it more, the upgrade is just not worth it... Everything about the phone is great...I love the idea of the slide down keyboard combined with a full size touch screen in an awesome form factor (my opinion of course)...the perfect combination However, the one major flaw this phone has is the screen resolution...seriuosly now, no improvement from the storm 2? The same resolution at 480 x 360? Does that make sense to anyone else? Considering the new iPhone 4's 960 x 640 screen resolution, I dont know what blackberry was thinking. Don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest blackberry fanboy out there...and have been a blackberry user for a long time, but you gotta admit, the shitty screen res in comparison to the new iPhone 4 is a major killer for this phone. I was going to use my HUP with rogers and go with the 9800 when it comes out...but it looks like I'm gonna pass on this one and wait for the next one... |
Tempted to upgrade my 9000 for this.. hmm.. |
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/04/b...-torch-review/ Engadget's detail review.. just like what everyone else, the screen resolution is just not on par on today's phone market also the phone feels dated and bulky compared to competition iv always been a pro berry for years but iv finally decided to give up bbm, and move on to the iphone 4 club.. when the stocks finally settled at the end of the year.. sigh... im going to miss my 8320 and 9000 im hoping RiM makes better improvements next year |

facetime on iphone can work over 3g if you jb, with the jb being so easy now there is really no reason not too. video calling is nothing new but the apple makes it so its very very easy to use and NO EXTRA CHARGES FROM CELLULAR PROVIDERS!!!! Facetime seem really limited right now becuz its only iphone to iphone but i imagine the reason why apple only allow it to officially work on wifi is becuz they plan to implement it into their other devices such as the ipad and the itouch. Once all the other hardware are updated with front facing camera facetime will really take off. Not everybody has an iphone but many people have itouch, ipod and/or ipad RIM not including a front facing camera, better screen and better camera just goes to show that while they are still king in corporate world they still don't get the consumer market |
Deciding in getting either the 9800 Torch or the Iphone 4............. |
im gonna probably get this and then the ipod touch 4 when it comes out |
sucks that the blackberry seems pretty slow compared to todays smartphones but im going to still give it a try. if i really hate it i might just sell it something but i'll still have my iphone 3g to go back too. the samsung seems pretty insane |
The downside to this phone is definitely the screen resolution and it's colors. Every top brand phone (samsung galaxy s vibrant, sony ericsson experia, nokia x6, motorola wildfire, htc desire) all have 16 million color. Also it's video camera is only 24fps. All the new phones now are at 30fps, and some with the famous 720p. I guess blackberry is more for business and they are not focusing on these aspects of the phone. Another thing to note is, if it's a matter to you, is that they are trying to ban the security issue with blackberry texting. Blackberry announced that they rather sell their business than to compromise its security, which is why so many business people prefer blackberry. |
