If you can't find salt, use kitty litter. It won't melt snow/ice but it will provide plenty of traction.

toehook 12-08-2016 09:34 AM

SNOW!!!!!!

Just checked Home Depot (Richmond) and Iron Wood Canadian Tire, both locations are out of salt and will be in by next week.

Good thing I bought two bags a couple of years back!

Source? I can't seem to find anything on it (nor can I find anything regarding a special weather advisory).

Edit: Snowfall warning just put in effect
seems like the forecasted snowfall decreasing with time though

Bouncing Bettys 12-08-2016 09:54 AM

If weather predictions fail one more time after this, they better prepare riot gear instead of snow gear.

Falling ice rare, but not unheard of, on world?s cable-stayed bridges

Liquid_o2 12-08-2016 10:41 AM

2 to 4 cm of snow expected tonight. Up to 5 to 7 cm tomorrow. Could really add up.

i like your numbers better, but according to what 604_boi posted above...

Quote:

Tonight
Cloudy. Snow beginning late this evening. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Windy. Temperature steady near minus 3.

Fri, 9 Dec
Snow. Amount 5 cm except 15 cm over higher terrain. Windy early in the morning. High plus 1.
Night Snow or rain. Low zero.

i'm from north burnaby, which pretty much follows SFU's weather forecasts... guess which one i'm expecting

Lowered_Klass 12-08-2016 10:58 AM

I'm hoping that since the bulk of the snow is supposed to happen overnight and into tomorrow morning, that a lot of people will just take a 3day weekend.

I just wish the people who aren't comfortable driving in snow, and the people who's cars clearly aren't winter/snow ready, stay the fuck off the roads.

Just checked Petsmart.ca website, the inventory says available today for pickup at Vancouver 2nd Avenue, Metrotown, BBY Marine Way, Port Coquitlam and Richmond stores. Sold out at Grandview Highway and North Van stores.

I hope to be one of these people. My cul de sac is already a challenge to get out of.

Boooo... I've had to OT every single day so far :(

punkwax 12-08-2016 03:13 PM

Heard on the radio you can use pickling salt as well and it can be bought in some grocery stores...

Apparently cheap but I've never shopped for it so can't confirm where or how much.

Liquid_o2 12-08-2016 03:13 PM

About 12 jugs of Ice Melt left at Petsmart in Richmond... 4kg bottle for $10.50 I believe. Not cheap but will do the job as most places are sold out.

Bouncing Bettys 12-08-2016 03:31 PM

One thing to keep in mind with salt, is that it can harm some concrete surfaces. Which is why I used to use kitty litter. A straw broom can also do a good job of clearing snow beyond what a shovel can remove.

MG1 12-08-2016 03:52 PM

I love my spring action ice chipper. Bought it on clearance at some liquidation place ten years ago. Never used it till now.

The American weather models say rain.
