Cioffis market on hastings in burnaby has lots of great sausages, including chorizo. Saffron you can really get anywhere, but the g.i. market is good for spices.

$11.99 is the going rate!

Jayboogz 05-06-2012 03:33 PM

That's expensive. I got them last year for $8 bux a lb. Being a crab fishermen has its perks! Wholesale price :D I haven't been seeing any commercial prawn fishers at the dock lately they prob workin hard right now def gonna get some when I go back to sell my crabs in van.

Just went to the docks at granville island..... a second time.... nothing there. Where are all the spot prawns? Did China buy them all up??

gotta ask Niu99 about that :fullofwin:
On a side note, when I had prawns in China, they were very small in size and the shells were very soft. I could basically eat the whole prawn with the shell. I don't know why but I kept having this idea that they caught them in sewers or something like that. Maybe because they catch sewer rats and deep fry them =0

thats cause the prawns u eat in china r mainly river shrimps, not the prawns here that r caught in the ocean.

didnt someone last year on rs sold prawns at large quantities? i remember sending him an email about how much i want and stuff but i never got any prawns or replies.

GGnoRE 05-09-2012 10:04 PM

Where can you buy them right now? T&T? The thrifty store near my house doesn't have them

sam0m0 05-09-2012 10:33 PM

bought them at T&T last week for 12.99 lb

Vale46Rossi 05-10-2012 01:58 AM

Dont buy any at the wharf @ Steveston they are small garbage prawns @ $6 a pound

sonick 05-10-2012 07:32 AM

those arent even spot prawns in the first place..

sonick 05-12-2012 07:42 PM

No spot prawns at all at Steveston, don't bother.

Picked up 1.5lbs from Superstore, $11.99/lb.

Jayboogz 05-12-2012 08:10 PM

Picked up 5lbs off my wholesaler for 50 bux these prawns are soooo goood. I think these prawns are mainly flown to japan... They can't stay live for very long w/o water even when they are delivered for sale in vancouver they are kept in live tanks

jlo mein 05-13-2012 02:31 PM

Yesterday T&T at metrotown had lively ones for $14+. Superstore Metro and Coquitlam had rather dead looking ones for $12.28.

GGnoRE 05-13-2012 04:34 PM

Went to T&T at coquitlam mall and bought them for 13.99/lb.

They had two tanks. The top tank had fresh ones (prawns moving actively) and the bottom tank seemed to have old ones (prawns barely moving). Make sure you ask them to give you prawns from the fresh tank only.

Use the leftover prawn heads to make a prawn stock soup base. Would go well with Seafood Noodle Soup.

GGnoRE 05-13-2012 10:17 PM

I fry the prawn heads with butter. Using them for seafood broth is also good as mentioned above.

TRDood 05-13-2012 10:29 PM

Just had a little less than 2 lb tonight. It turned out to be 26 prawns in total.

Jer3 05-19-2012 02:24 PM

steveston docks had 1 boat selling today. $14 a lb and were all pretty decent sized to large. tons of ppl were buying.

finbar 05-19-2012 03:15 PM

fd3 05-19-2012 04:04 PM
