PriceSmart Foods this weekend (Sat & Sun, at least). $14.98/lb

Don't buy them all. Please save some for me tomorrow.

Jayboogz 05-17-2014 11:54 PM

Supply and demand my friend. Suppliers looking for top dollar and most of the supply is purchased in Asia. I'm in the crab business and I can tell u right now 99% is being exported. Restaurants stopped purchasing crab because people aren't willing to pay 25$lb when u can eat King crab geoduck for around the same price. What can locals do? Get a couple prawn traps and crab traps maybe a dingy and catch em yourself! Cost be a one time thing and the traps can be reused. Bait is fairly cheap as well you could use left overs. From what I understand the area around English Bay to Granville Island is closed to commercial fishing so stocks will be plentiful.!

I wonder if Mainlanders will suddenly develop a taste for sockeye salmon.

17 at granville island

genocide is expensive

Ch28 05-18-2014 02:18 PM

I might not even do spot prawns this year. It's so bloody expensive that I might as well eat lobster instead lol

Gotta pick up some abalone first

Expresso 05-18-2014 08:24 PM

I think you can get your fill though at a cheaper rate. If you spend an equal amount on crab or lobster it'll be tiny or not meaty. Although I do agree over priced though.

Teemway. Last week it was $15.99/lb, or $14.99/lb if you buy 3+lbs. They also had "not live" BC spot prawn for $7.99/lb

stuff99 05-19-2014 07:45 PM

Why doesn't China develop a hankering for pests instead.

subordinate 05-19-2014 07:51 PM

it was 14.99/lb at superstore as well, earlier today.
Except, they were pretty much all gone for except 2lbs left? Insane.

winson604 05-21-2014 03:01 PM

$14.98 at Price Smart Grandview which got raped pretty quickly. Went there today at around 1130 and there were literally 2 left.

lilaznviper 05-24-2014 01:40 PM

any updates on pricing today?

Culverin 05-25-2014 02:38 PM

Just shy of $17/lbs at Pricemart Grandview last night.
Even lobsters are cheaper per pound.

So I got a lobster and mussels too.

Ch28 05-25-2014 08:15 PM

Was $14.98 at Superstore today and everything was cleared out except for 2 dead ones

Xu.Vi 05-28-2014 02:47 AM

18.88 yesturday at T&T O_________O.

Culverin 05-28-2014 02:17 PM

Too pricey for me now.
I had some people over and we played around some.
I think that's it for me unless my friends want to bankroll them again.

Obsideon 05-28-2014 07:46 PM

I remember back in the day they would be like $7.99 lol ... damn I used to plow through them, me and my co-worker went through like 8lbs in a day.
Damn if I did that now, with a decent bottle of wine, would set me back like $200 for a casual sit at home. :heckno:

Cman333 04-12-2015 07:32 PM

Anyone know when they're back in season for 2015?

Ch28 04-12-2015 07:48 PM

Would've been nice if they didn't ban that one guy that would always cut us in on spot prawn deals.
