You can sue ICBC or the vandals for diminished value, however its not an easy or quick process and the legal costs for the competent attorney usually makes it not really worth it.
This week, Marketplace investigates what some call the best kept secret in the car insurance industry: why insurance companies prevent people from claiming diminished value insurance on vehicles that have been in a significant collision. So if you've been in a car accident, here's what you can do:
1. Ask your body shop to appraise the amount of re-sale value your vehicle has lost
2. Ask your insurance company to compensate you for the diminished value your vehicle has incurred.
3. File a claim in small claims court if your insurance company refuses to compensate you for diminished value.
4. Press your insurance company to write off the damage rather than repair it if the diminished value is high or you were planning to trade your car in soon.
5. Call or write to the Insurance Bureau of Canada and the insurance regulator in your province if you think that diminished value should be covered.

While you were drunk and flipping cars, I was driving with all of my emergency equipment on to get into Vancouver. While you were throwing anything you could get your hands on at the police, I was pressure testing my APR and standing in the middle of the tear gas. While you and thousands of others disgraced Vancouver and its surrounding population, I stood shoulder to shoulder with a couple hundred men and women, whom I trust my life with, ready to address your indiscretions.
You came up to me like you owned the streets in your drunken stupor, thrust your middle fingers in my face and shouted obscenities; I didn’t snap you in half.
Actions speak louder than words.
You started “harmless” fires. You torched other men and women’s cars whom you’d never met and never did you wrong. You assaulted firemen as they arrived to try and deal with your “mistakes”. You took limited, valuable emergency resources away from good people who needed them. You endangered more lives by tying up emergency services than you ever considered.
You started fights. You stabbed people you’d never met because they somehow made you angry. You gave men and women trying to protect property life altering concussions. You brought paramedics into the tear gas and exhausted them trying to save people they’d never met.
You showed up to hospital emergency rooms crying because you’d been exposed to tear gas. You got obnoxious and demanded to be treated like you were somehow dying. You knew it was a riot, you chose not to leave, you chose to stick around and breathe the tear gas in. You took nurses and doctors away from people who needed their care to live. People they’d never met but work tirelessly to save. You demanded to be treated as if you were better than the rest of society.
You’d tell me that the emergency services personnel I speak of are paid to do this job and chose to be there. You’re right. We give a damn about people we’ve never met and property that isn’t ours, that’s why we do what we do. You disgust us.
What brought a tear to my eye, after the gas had cleared, was standing in the middle of an intersection at about 3am the only people I’d seen for the last 30 minutes were other police officers, until a shop keeper brought us a case of water. Then I saw a random person with a broom clearing the sidewalk. I had a duty to respond, the citizens of Vancouver immediately afterward could have just left it up to those paid to deal with it. They didn’t just stand by, they came out in force and cleaned up after your indiscretions. Everyone I saw that early morning thanked me, I was only doing my job. I have the utmost respect for all of the people from Vancouver and the surrounding areas that came downtown and volunteered to clean up after you.
You owe Vancouver and the surrounding population more than mere words. Don’t you dare ask for our forgiveness without taking responsibility. You can’t fix life altering injuries with an “I’m Sorry”. You can’t repay someone’s car loan with a YouTube video. You ask that people leave you and your family alone but you offer no way to replace priceless losses.
You’ll sleep soundly in your bed tonight because men and women like me will always be there to deal with your poor choices. You have no idea how fortunate you are, even after we arrest and charge you. Even though you disgust me, if you call for me in the middle of the night I’ll respond. I’ll protect your life and property because it’s right and it’s what I do.
The evening of June 15, 2011 fellow emergency services personnel, my brothers and sisters, left our families at home and while grossly out numbered stood to fight. The morning of June 16, 2011 the true heroes emerged to volunteer their time and restored my faith in humanity.

saw him working @ fitness world a few days ago....they're obviously not going to give him hard jail time (or any) because there's a pic of him running out of the bay, probs just some community service.
Insurance companies are not in the business of compensating you when something goes wrong; they are in the business of selling you false hopes and finding ways to not pay you when something bad does indeed happen.

You know all that complex lingo that goes into your policy wordings... we're supposed to say that it's legal language to properly protect you but in reality, they're worded by lawyers and industry experts to shift bias towards the company and explicitly limit your coverage.
But hey, we made industry buzz words like "all-risk" or "comprehensive coverage" so the average joe wouldn't notice. They're purposely complex so that the average joe would not understand and will not catch on, or will require an insurance broker's assistance.

I'm not sure what else he actually did besides whack the windows a few times though. He's still an idiot for being involved,
but the picture made it look a lot worse. When I first saw the picture, I thought he "single-handely" destroyed B.MO.
But there was a youtube video of this incident that showed the stick didn't even belong to him.
It was a stick that was being passed around and everyone was taking shots at the windows like a pinata.

You didn't seriously think some 90 pound, scrawny Asian bitch did all that damage on his own, did you?
lol, nah. but my point is the photo kinda implied he took a stick to downtown raging and started destroying everything in sight.
When in reality, he was just one of the many that took turns passing the stick around and giving 2 whacks at the frame/window.
Don't get me wrong, he definitely should be responsible for his actions, but just trying to see things in perspective,
compared to the others that were lighting stuff up on fire or looting.

well, that was the whole point really. the people who were prepared for a riot drew all the idiots in with their actions which snowballed into what we saw. kind of messed up that the people who were fully masked won't be caught but all the idiots with poor judgement (and didn't bother to cover their faces) will be punished. but hey, that's what you get for being so easily swayed by mob mentality and getting caught up in the moment.
you know i've been thinking.. The people with the black masks and shirts saying "i am only here for the riot" have a possibility of being thugs appointed by the government, i don't really think that way but it's a possibility..
at the beggining of this documentary it shows 3 cops dressed up as thugs, and then the toronto police department didn't deny that, and just had no explanation for the public..

i'm pretty sure plain clothed policeman are there to blend in with the crowd and help deter riot-like behaviour. when you see "civilians" immediately step in to stop something, chances are the rest of the crowd won't jump in and fall for mob mentality.
note: i didn't watch that video, this is just my opinion.
