Just a reminder that if you are not a sponsor, you cannot make offers to sell or arrange for group buys. People who do that will find their abilities to send and receive PMs restricted at best, and flat out banned at worst.

I'm not getting much use out of my GoPro HD camera.
Anyone mount it on the windshield and use it as a HD dash cam?

Well, yesterday was a bad day for me. Some stupid owner didn't leash up their dog and it came at my car. I pretty much saved his life by braking and going left, but he rammed himself into my rear quarter panel making a nice xmas dent :( Not sure if he was violent, but he was definately okay as he chased my car down the rest of the street. Where's Spoonek when you need him :okay:

XplicitLuder 01-03-2013 11:06 PM

did you talk to the owner?

this footage was from the beginning of the year but i haven't gotten to uploading it...well, here it is
dashcam caught this on camera...the body shop (not going to provide names/details) decided it would be a smart/great idea to cover up the camera...hmm shady? or just protecting their business and privacy? lol.. you tell me

Alby 01-30-2013 10:43 PM

i think it really depends on your perspective of things. as the employee/owner i wouldn't want anyone recording of how i do things in my own shop vs you thinking covering up the dash cam assumes something shady is happening.

or if you brought it into a shop you trust, even if they do cover up the dash cam, you wouldn't really think twice of them doing something shady.

FI-Z33 01-30-2013 11:49 PM

^forgot to add...the shop was a referral through infiniti...it wasn't really our choice to bring it there :P

but i totally understand what you're talking about; hence, i did weigh in the "protecting their business and privacy" idea

Here's a short clip of a foggy drive over the Port Mann. At the time, I thought the shadows were really surreal and trippy.

...I should have sped up

In other news, the quality of my dashcam does not seem up to par with other BlackVue dr380 G HD's...the videos are grainy and pixelated...any fix for this?

Its not as bad when I'm stationary like this:
But it still looks pixelated for example the numbers around the license plate, or the street sign are blurry...

asr 02-12-2013 11:37 AM

^Did you switch to 720P HD to watch it?

I did

Quick question for you guys.
I'm thinking about setting a dashcam up except I have no clue about the quality of them. I saw people talking about "fake hd" in the first couple of pages.

Blackvue Dr380G-HD 8GB SD 720P Accident Recorder/Dash Camera for $175

^ I was thinking about getting that one since it does have expandable memory. Plus the quality in the example videos was pretty good. Any one have experiences with it or any other recommendations for a dashcam?

Mine can't seem to settle on the right contrast a lot of times, and when the contrast shifts, you can see some pixelated blocks in the video. Not sure if it's supposed to be that way. I guess there are lots of shadows/big trees to deal with in Vancouver city streets.

Latest firmware on the Blackvue website is 1.020, but mine is already at 1.041 (if I remember right).

Any other DR380G owners experience the same?

Sample video for mine:

Try normal contrast and low light setting.

Mine is 1.020, it looks ok.

So I ordered a Blackvue DR500GW for myself but am not sure of what to get for my parents who aren't as tech savvy as me.

Anyone able to recommend a good quality and easy to use camera for my parents? Basically, what would you get someone who isn't up-to-date with technology and only needs it in the case of an accident (ie. doesn't care about taking videos to contribute to the shitty/dangerous drivers thread).

Or does ease of use not really matter as long as I can help them set it up? ie. I can just handle the setup and in the event of an accident, I can just go in and grab the video from the SD card for them etc.?

SSM_DC5 02-25-2013 10:17 PM

I'm hoping one of you Blackvue guru's can help me figure out what's wrong, cuz i'm a noob at this.

I'm getting 3.5 hrs of Parking mode recording when the little squiggly line from the sensor is within the parameters, so that should mean that it shouldn't record at all......right? and in case there is any confusion, it's 3.5 hrs of the same amplitude of squiggly.

Here's a pic,

asr 02-25-2013 11:50 PM

^As long as you have clips save in memory card, it means your camera was still RECORDING. Because decibel didn't change at that time so the amplitude of squiggly was all the same.

LuHua 02-26-2013 12:48 AM

I was under the impression that the BlackVue's parking mode was motion-detection based; if something moves in front of the camera, it'll record for a bit. I may be wrong though, since I never use my parking mode.

OTG-ZR2 02-26-2013 01:45 AM

Cop creeping through red light while another car is trying to make a left turn. Full screen for best view.

:werd:

I was under the same impression as LuHua. I don't want Parking mode recording if nothing is going on. it's a waste of space and unnecessary drain of the battery. So how do i fix this to make it work the way i want it to?
