No, the image is fine. It's just not smooth - lots of jitter when external monitor out port is connected.

It's a known issue.

It's actually written in the manual that video-out will automatically change the recording to 15fps.

I guess it's just a downfall of whatever chip they're using.

Around the end of July or early in August.

yup, that's where I saw it. I don't mind it, except I once in a while forget to unplug the cable after checking everything out in the morning. If I never had to worry about it, it would be awesome. Anyway, just got in from all the heat and checked out the footage. Heat is a bitch with the Blackvue.

I'd be better off hooking up my Pioneer backup camera to a recording device and place the lens in the front grill. At least there won't be any windshield glare, LOL. Only problem is, I'll get nothing but ass shots of pedestrians.......... wait........ uh, um........ that's......... a good thing. :fullofwin:

I'll chime in on the Finevu CR-500HD. Today, the hot weather sure as hell put my dashcam to the temperature test. I parked outside in the sun from 9:30-1:00pm with my car facing west. By the time I got back to my car, it was hot like hell inside and my dashcam was very hot to the point I thought it was going to explode. It wasn't hot to the point it was untouchable, but it was hot as though you wouldn't want your gadgets to be under such temperature. After rolling down the weathers to get some breeze of air ventilation, the dashcam cooled down significantly.

Due to the sun, there's some minor bright glare, overall, I am quite happy with my dashcam. Hopefully it can handle the weather over the summer.

I checked video footage from my dashcam when I got home, footage is good as usual.

MG1 07-01-2013 10:04 AM

I guess the dashcams with external GPS units are the ones that survive the heat.

TOPEC 07-01-2013 10:13 AM

ASR do u still carry finevues?

Lomac 07-02-2013 10:38 PM

So it looks like my Blackvue is officially shot. I've no idea what happened since the car is parked in a cooled garage and I usually have the A/C going at full blast while driving. All it's doing is power cycling every thirty seconds or so and refuses to record at all. Which kinda sucks since I needed to pull some footage last night from an incident.

Will, any ideas or possibility of doing some warranty work? It's only a few months old. :okay:

godwin 07-02-2013 10:40 PM

Try swapping the memory card for another one first and format it properly using SDFormatter from here https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
.. it could just be the memory card since the configuration file is store on the card.

Lomac, let us know what happens with the memory card swap. I bought a new dashcam and have a Blackvue 400 sitting around you can use for the time being. I need to pm Graeme to see if he wants it or not. I'm in no hurry to unload it. Might even hook it up as a rear cam.

It worked for a bit but it's still power cycling. Even after formatting three micro-SD cars (two of which I know work because they've been in my two phones for a year now without an issue) it's still acting up. However, now it's actually recording footage for about a minute (I have it set up to do 3 minute clips) before it reboots.

:okay:

Let me know what you're willing to do, MG. :)

godwin 07-04-2013 10:40 PM

Have you tried powering it up outside your car? say with a bench power supply?

You're welcome to use mine. It sits there in the garage doing nothing. Let me know where we can meet.

BorLorBao 08-27-2013 03:32 PM

I have been having problems lately with my blackvue. It is recording but the date would show 2010 and the GPS on it won't work.
Any solutions?

Zedbra 08-27-2013 08:20 PM

I've been using a GT300W for a few months now. So far, I like how easy it is to use, the large screen, and the footage is really crisp both day and night (has an F2 lens). Will report if it melts or dies prematurely.

asr 08-27-2013 11:54 PM

If you guys don't mind a small screen on a dashcam, DOD LS300W is a very good choice and price is pretty fair. Video quality is impressive.

Zedbra 08-28-2013 06:57 AM

^ The DOD LS300W and the GT300W are the same camera, same manufacturing plant, different brand name - least that is what is what I researched. And the GT is always about $75 cheaper.

J.C 08-31-2013 01:34 AM

just bought the DOD GT550W
will be here next month, cant wait to get it

Ride 09-07-2013 07:37 PM

looking to get the Blackvue DR550 2ch WiFi 16gb has anyone dealt or bought from this site.

BlackVue DR550 2ch WiFi 16GB Free EMS - ohmyBlackbox

Total for this unit comes out to $341.00 including shipping to either Canada or US. Or should I just get from ASR?

Graeme S 09-07-2013 08:09 PM

If it were me for something like that, I'd go local just for the support. I picked up an el-cheapo dashcam online for my mom just 'cause she wanted SOMETHING. But when I pick up my next cam, it's off to ASR I go.

Any updates on how it handled over the summer?

I also have a Finevu CR-500HD for my vehicle and have been parking it out in the sun in the summer for over 8 hours as the employee parking lot is outside.
At the end of my shift the camera would also be incredibly hot to touch, but the camera still works great and never had any problems in the heat :)
