^ But if ICBC ask that blurry spot, how can you answer that?

Lomac 09-02-2012 10:35 PM

Or... can always simply crop the footage...

asr 09-02-2012 10:38 PM

^Lomac, would you mind sharing the info?

Even in Seattle, I can't escape shitty drivers

Typically cropping footage just involves using your video editing program to zoom into the clip and move it around, allowing you to take out bits around the edge that you don't want.

^Thanks for your input, moderator.

I am SO sad I missed GCVW this year. Even worse, it was merely minutes from my house!

We need something like a Car shows/Events thread dedicated to these kinds of events.

Never even heard of a VW show happening locally. Would've loved to go.

Even if you crop the speed out, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine the speed you're going based on a distance vs time calculation, if they really wanted to know.

just to experiment with... and to show people 'you get what you pay for'.. here's a cheap $40 ebay dashcam...removed sound...it records at standard 640x480 VGA and obviously the lens isn't wide enough. Night time recording sucks but still somewhat functional..daytime seems ok.

2GB SDcard yielded approx 44mins at this resolution with sound. it was set for 'night mode' for first half of video and switched to 'day mode' around when I hit the oak st bridge.

QUESTION I have is the 'optical frequency'? i.e. 50hz or 60hz? does it really make a difference?

The only 'funny' event was the RAV4 at 6:05 trying to merge in front of the big 18 wheeler and not being able to do so.

next one I get will be a much higher res/wider angle...still researching...

for now, here's the EL-CHEAPO Dash Cam:

That's one is good, why not go to ncix.com buy a Patriot $20 class 10 one?
Sandisk is good quality tho.

inv4zn 09-04-2012 11:04 PM

Patriot one is only $20 until today (sept 4th) due to a mail-in rebate.

After that it's $30.

Picked mine up today :D

inv4zn 09-05-2012 01:46 AM

I see a lot of footage (including mine) has significant glare from the dashboard...anyone try using some sort of polarizer to get rid of it?

The finevu had a screw-on CP filter...the blackvues dont apparently. All I could find online was this stuff: Polarizer,Linear Polarizer Film

Not sure if you'd stick it on the lens, or the window in front of the lens.

Thoughts?

asr 09-05-2012 08:53 AM

^Polarizer is not good for the night tho. I have the finevu with the polarizer on my car. But it is not that helpful.:concentrate:

lol he's going to get a ton of PM's now because of you.

But the polarizer is no good? How much does it degrade night picture quality?

Dash cam, car black box, accident recorder, etc.

Under $50, go for ebay ones (DVR-027, etc.) or try the night market. If you want higher quality cameras (gps, accelerometer, HD video) look to our sponsors. Popular ones are the DR400G, DR380G, and the FineVu branded ones (not sure about models).

ShadowBun 09-07-2012 08:39 PM

hows this one?
