Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, close call there. I've never seen anything like that before, heh.

:duh: on the railway crossing. I was trying to look in ghostrider's video to see what the no stopping sign said, but i couldn't make it out.

I'm really interested in knowing what part of the MVA leads godwin and ghostrider to believe that you can't cross the tracks in that situation.:accepted:

And from the video alone, one can't determine for certain that the car was being pulled over for crossing the tracks. What if it was a cellphone check or seat belt check? The cop was going up to everyone's window, not just the car that crossed the tracks.

it's missing the proceed on green only. If it had that, then it's pretty clear cut to me.

Yea same with Alderbridge one.. but no one does this.. Whenever I stop at the line, There is always idiots on the next lane that cuts in front me, thinking im giving them the lane :suspicious:

They should just Move the "Stop Line" behind the X'ing..

Here is the followup to the RavPower 10400mAh battery and TW680.
I fully charged the battery until this morning, then I plug the battery into the camera at 8AM. The camera was set on for all the time (not motion detect) and it ran from 8AM to 5:30PM (9.5 Hours) at which time there was 2 bars left on the battery. I had to use the camera so I stopped the test. As far as I am concerned, it looks like this fits my needs. The battery never got warm but the camera got slightly warm only.

Thanks for the update! Do you basically run the dash cam off the battery pack the whole time now or just unplug the power cord and plug in the battery pack whenever you park?

FerrariEnzo 03-19-2014 11:07 PM

wow.. 9.5hrs on a battery pack.. nice... did your dashcam get hot..

Vulgate 03-19-2014 11:24 PM

Dmak - Right now the dashcam runs of the car battery while driving and plugged into the external battery when parked. Fortunately or unfortunately, my trips are very short on a day to day basis and the car is at home 95% of the time, so it may be easier just to leave it plugged into the external battery pack at all times. Each individual will be different depending where you park, parking duration, length of trip, etc...

Enzo - negative, the dashcam was barely warm for the 9.5 hours and the battery wasn't any warmer than room temperature.

So far, either the GTW680 draws little current or the battery is pretty strong, or both but I am happy with both items.

Can you leave the cam plugged into the battery pack permanently and wire the battery pack to a switched circuit so it charges the pack whenever the car is on? (i.e. so you don't have to keep switching plugs)

Vulgate 03-20-2014 09:11 AM

Yes you can. However if the external battery pack is drained, it will take a while to fully charge battery to full again. Unfortunately I have not measure the time to fully charge from depletion yet so I can't tell you the time. Also this varies with the battery pack size you have. So unless you plan to drive for a long time, you may have to take the battery out and charge it overnight in the house.

I just read external battery packs have a running temperature range and storage temp range. For ravPower battery that I have, it has a running temperature of 0C to 40C and and storage temp of -20C to 60C so those temps aren't that high for the summer heat. Like others side, you don't the battery to explore in the car.

KingKaze 03-25-2014 11:43 AM

I wanna get a camera in the car that runs when the cars off theres more security.

Also interested in grabbing a camera for the dash so if someone tries to lie about an accident I'll have some sort of proof.

chrishk 03-26-2014 11:31 AM

im seriously contemplating getting a dash cam in my vehicle as well. Since the family is growing, its definitely important to protect my passengers.

Can anyone point me int he right direction as to where to go pick one up?

dmak4 04-16-2014 02:34 PM

nevermind

dmak4 04-17-2014 08:48 PM

Anyone order a dash cam off fox offer and get a defective charger? Specifically for my GT680W, I just received it. When I plugged it in to the cigarette outlet no power what so ever. Even when I push the "ON" button that is suppose to light up. I plugged something else into the cigarette lighter and there is definitely power.

Any solutions? I've already emailed them about it not working, don't know how much help they would be though.

XplicitLuder 04-18-2014 01:02 PM

anyone know why my sd card isnt reading ? had it in my dashcam for the last week or so, took it out to clear it since im sure it was full long ago, and when i put it in the slot on comp it said files were corrupted and if i wanted to fix before continuing. so it scans and it says it fixes and the whole card is cleared. Its happened twice in a row now..doesnt seem to record at all

godwin 04-18-2014 01:17 PM

There is a life span for SDCards.. however format it again with the formatter from SDcard.org. Another point for getting a large card so you don't overwrite the data as often.

If that's not the problem, it could be that the voltage is not high enough. The system draws more power during write cycles.

Should it not be loop recording? Try reformatting the card, and when you plug in the card if it says files are corrupted click no and see what it shows you. I've had the issue where clicking yes and letting it "fix" them nukes everything on cheap thumbdrives before.

Also try using a different card reader if all else fails.

So I just ordered the Shadow GT680W and it finally arrived. Just a few noob questions:

1. So I have the cigarette lighter already occupied with something else. Is it possible to record without the car charger? Or would i have to buy a splitter?

2. Just plugged the USB to my camera & the cam. How long does it usually take to charge? ....it is charging right now right LOL

TIA :)

Vulgate 05-29-2014 11:05 AM

Answer to Q1: From previous threads and from ASR thread, you can buy an aftermarket voltage regulator so you don't drain your battery. That is assuming if you want the camera to be on when the car is off.
When the car is on, then you can plug into cigarette lighter plug or aftermarket mini usb plug (to the fuse box), but the camera will be off when the car is off.

Answer to Q2: Don't really have an answer as I never timed it but this really doesn't matter as the battery doesn't have to be charged in order to use the dashcam so if it is plugged in, you can use it right away. The internal battery doesn't last long. I have not test it yet but I do not think it would last more than 5 mins on internal battery alone.

After reading your review on the RavPower 10400mAh battery, I'm sold lol

Do you mind showing taking a photo of your dashcam set-up with the external battery? It's a pretty big device so I'm not sure if you leave it in your cup holder or something :lol
