Anyone know if Blackboxmycar do hardwire installation? I'm not the techy guy when it come to car stuff.

mickz 12-24-2015 01:06 AM

Why not go through one of the forum's sponsors?

he does hardwire installation, but the thing is, like most people, he wires the dashcam into the airbag fuses like a lot of other shops/people do to save time as the airbag fuses r usually just under the driver dash. personally i would not wire anything into important safty functions like airbags

underscore 12-24-2015 08:37 AM

I'm trying to stick under $100 for each single (not including SD card), I don't need wifi or any fancy brand names as I've seen lots of people have issues with Blackvues and I don't want to deal with BBMC since I've heard some not so great things, I just want good video quality that'll last a couple years. It can hit 50+ degrees in the car here in the summer so I don't expect anything I pick to have a very long life.

mickz 12-24-2015 09:54 AM

Seems like the G1W is the go-to dash cam that is sub-$100. It's not as covert as some of the other options out there but it has good picture quality in 1080p.

AzNightmare 12-24-2015 04:03 PM

I'm using VIOFO A118C.

I didn't want anything fancy, but just something that could record 1080p.
And it's pretty discreet.

So where is the best location/fuse to hardwire into?

Have you seen BBMC wire them to the airbag fuses personally? I doubt the guys there would do such a thing and I can vouch for everyone working there. A lot of people wire them into the dash panel fuses by the kickpanels but I've never heard of anyone wiring them to the airbags, that just seems beyond stupid.

lol where did you hear that? the airbag fuses are usually in the same place as the fuses for the rest of the car for most Jap/American vehicles. I know for W205 C Class (video) there is a front fuse box that has the airbag fuses in it but if you watch Alex's videos he specifically uses the rear fuse box on that car even though it's the furthest away from the front camera. That being said BBMC outsources most installs nowadays.

Hardwire really isn't that hard (for lack of a better word) I did one on an FRS last weekend, takes all of 7 minutes to get the power cable in. If you guys need a hand give me a PM, with most JDM cars it's usually pretty easy.

A118/A118C way more discreet and tends to be more reliable too

underscore 12-27-2015 08:12 AM

^ I just searched up the A118C and found them on sale for $50USD each, thanks!

I think the XiaoMi Yi car camera deserves a look.. though after it had shipped though. $80 is cheap if their software is like their other products. (ie much better than any dashcams out there)..

Ambrallela A7 used in GoPro current cameras and the small Mini 0805,0806 car cameras overheats way too easily.

No problems with my 0805. It does get a little warm, but is miles ahead in that area compared to my DR400.

What kind of mount would you use for that Xiaomi Yi camera? Prior to my Blackvue I had dash cams with a suction cup mount but they would always fall off while driving.

should be a suction cup mount but if they use a generic size bracket (e.g., one that fits G1W) you can buy adhesive mounts

Anyone of you guys encounter bad customer service from Blackboxmycar?

I contacted an ad for a brand new Blackvue DR650 (2-channel) on Craigslist and the guy named Sean responded and indicated his works as a customer representative for Blackboxmycar and that the price for the dashcam is $425.

The price they list on their website is for $504; however, a buddy of mine bought the same dashcam from Sean for $400 cash in person meetup a week prior. I was all puzzled with the different pricing and I told my friend to ask Sean to see if he can get it for $400. Sean declined he ever met my friend for the $400 in person cash deal and that he couldn't do $400, which makes no sense as it was only a week ago, can't imagine someone forgetting that quickly.

Last night I contacted Blackboxmycar directly via email to ask about their inconsistent pricing structure. They refused to response and I feel that is the way they handle negativity and that is to ignore and pretend they never knew of the issue.

I am "Sean" and I work as a sales representative (NOT Customer representative) for multiple dashcam companies. I clearly mention in all my emails that I work with multiple companies, and that I DO NOT work solely with blackboxmycar, so please do not drag them into this. I have never sold a blackvue dr650gw-2ch for $400. I include invoices with every sale I make so you should probably ask your friend to check his invoice for two things: What price is listed on the invoice? What COMPANY is listed on the invoice?

As for your email to blackboxmycar last night, you should give them up to 24 hours to reply. You can't expect a response so quickly... I have already spoken to Alex on this matter and he should be sending you a response before the business day ends.

Edit: Also, my prices can fluctuate every day depending on whether there is a sale or not with the companies I work with. If I sell a dashcam for $425 one week, that doesn't mean that I can get you the same price the next week. Just like any retail store.

Edit 2: If there is anything else you want me to clarify, or want to discuss. I will gladly do so through PM. I don't want to bring any negative attention towards the companies I work for online, as this is not their fault.

This is a pretty good deal. Basically will get driving and parking recording all in one package under $200 (including tax).

sometimes, there will be a hot chick (like yesterday) that you know had passed in front of your car so you can quickly see a repeat if you have a wifi dashcam. :troll:

I have purchased at least half a dozen various dash cams from Alex at blackboxmycar.com over a span of two or so years. He is very professional and is really easy to deal with. If an issue comes up, he goes out of his way to remedy the situation.

I've met up with him at odd hours and he has always been available (within reason). I think you're starting off on the wrong foot here.

I kind of understand what's happening here. Just saying Alex is a pretty good guy. As mentioned by Sean, I think this is a misunderstanding and blackboxmycar.com should not be dragged into this.

True, but you can still save the vid just like any other one with the little double triangle button.

Any dashcam recommended for basic recording (don't need WiFi, GPS, etc.) and that's reliable (ie. leave it on 365 days a year regardless hot or cold)?

I kind of regret going cheap and picking up a G1W-C from Aliexpress and it's basically not working properly.

I know (or read) that some of the high end dashcam (ie Blackvue) used to have problem with the heat in the summer, is that still the case?
