what are ppl using for battery discharge protection? Is 12.4V the magic number?

dash cam talk recommends Korea s No.1 Lukas Blackbox - Full HD, HD, VGA, Brand new dash cams, Buy Blackbox, 2-channel Blackbox but wonder if there's something newer/cheaper?...i was looking at the $10 solutions but I dont want my car to burn down because of shoddy build quality

Does anyone here remove their dashcam when you park to prevent theft? If you don't use yours in parking mode obviously

How often do you drive your car and what's your battery condition. If the dash cam is on for 2 days straight your battery should still be fine to crank the car over. If you wire it into the wiper fuse with a fuse tap then it'll turn on and off with the car.

If you're really worried about it 12.4V is your number. For more info refer to this site Battery Discharge Prevention | Dash Cam Talk

What program do you guys use to edit/trim your clips?

Windows movie maker makes my clips widescreen and not full screen

Sony Vegas Pro 11 renders my clips audio but not the damn video :suspicious:

MG1 08-25-2014 12:15 PM

I have a Mac and I use Quicktime with Perian to open and edit clips. Works like a charm. However, the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks that I just purchased can only play the clips, as Perian isn't compatible with that OS. Not sure if iMovie can be used..... perhaps VLC. The MacBook has Windows 8 on it, so will have to look into that, as well.

meme405 08-25-2014 12:52 PM

Movie maker is like the microsoft paint of editing programs.

Adobe Premiere is what I use for dash cam videos. Final cut is another good option.

xXSupa 08-25-2014 01:36 PM

I use Sony Vegas Pro 12.

lilaznviper 08-25-2014 02:41 PM

i use adobe premiere

underscore 08-25-2014 04:32 PM

I use Vegas 12 for editing at the moment, the video output settings can be a bit of a pain though since there's a pile of options.

dared3vil0 08-25-2014 04:43 PM

iMovie seems to work for me. :)

Issue with blackvue dr380g

- loses date/time and when shutting down it doesn't announce it, which leads to premature shutdown and corruption of last recorded file. Googling the issue seems to be related to the internal battery which is soldered on.

Anyone having this issue?

keifun 09-27-2014 09:37 PM

Got a BlackVue DR380G

Anyone knows how come the video is played at a very fast speed. like fast forwarding.

I adjusted the video speed to 1.0x but still nothing.

Any help?

Thanks.

My VicoVation TF2+ Premium keeps crapping out on me. Will randomly shut off (without the shutoff screen animation and sound) and I cannot get it to power on unless I play with the on off switch a couple times without the power line plugged in. After messing around the button a couple times, maybe the 4th or 5th time plugging the power line back in, does the unit power back on.

Not sure if it's the cable that's gone bad, or the unit itself...

It's been driving me insane on every drive, as I have to go through this process at least once a day.

Klondike 09-27-2014 11:28 PM

For video editing, I'm using Videopad. It's free and to bypass the trial expiration, just go through the uninstall process until it lets you use the basic version. It's no Vegas 12, but it's a whole lot better than movie maker.

So what's the general consensus on a good dashcam? Last one I used was the Blackvue DR380 (or maybe 300... can't remember anymore :lol), but I left it installed on the last vehicle I sold. Looking to pick up a new cam once I'm down on the coast in a couple weeks, so it has to be something sold by a local shop. Have the Blackvue's gotten any better recently in regards to the sensor overheating or should I try my luck with a Finevue? Any other brands sold locally I should consider instead?

*Waves*

Blackvue has resolved the overheating issue they had with the DR400. Basically replaced with a different model.

DR380 basically got replaced with the DR3500. Basically cosmetics have changed and has gone full HD (1080P) and optional GPS.

We've sold quite a few DR3500, 500 and 600's and haven't had anyone complain. A couple of the guys here are running the new DR600 and DR650-2CH, so far so good. Mind you these model's are pretty new, so only time will tell.

PM me if you're interested. We'll have our RS mod hookup for you ;)

MG1 10-01-2014 05:16 PM

I've had the Finevu for nearly a year. It's been really good. Solid performer. Night footage is average, but daytime is pretty awesome. I swore never to get another Blackvue again. They may be better now, but I'm totally happy with the Finevu CR 500HD. I was about to get a Lukas dashcam because they're pretty good, too. Alas, an RS member had a new in box, Finevu for sale and I jumped on it. If the Finevu gets stolen or lost or dies, imma gonna git me a Lukas 79 whatever. I have so many other dashcams lying around, including the now famous buttplug dashcam and the Mobius. Both are going to be rear dashcams when I find the time to install them. Lomac check into the Mobius dashcam, it has to be one of the best for the price dashcams. So small and discrete. It can double as a cam for helmets, drones, whathaveyou. RC guys are using it for all kinds of toys. It's that small.

G1W or Skyview G1?

Skyview G1 has better audio quality than the G1W. There's also a lot of fake G1Ws out there, so be careful when you're buying.

Why don't you just get a dr550? It's a 2 channel system, so everything is controlled through the front camera. A lot more convenient, IMO.

because fantastic deal on amazon.com.

my dad also has a spare g1w-like so i might use that instead of getting another blackvue.

the prices of .com and .ca arent that far off, with shipping and potential taxes it should be similar

.ca price for a 650 2ch - $480 + free shipping + 12% tax = $504
http://www.amazon.ca/BlackVue-Channe...blackvue+dr650

.com price for a 650 2ch - $419.99 + $29.48 shipping + 12% tax = $500
Amazon.com : BlackVue New 2 Channel DR650GW-2CH 16GB, Car Black Box/Car DVR Recorder, Built-in Wi-Fi, Full HD(1080p@30fps), up to 64GB support : Car Electronics

the only diff is .com has the new DR750 2ch with the screen where as .ca doesnt

if ur lookin at the dr550 then yes .com has a better deal

Question for you guys that use dash cams

Do you guys leave your dash cams in the car or do you guys take them out with you where ever you go?

I just leave it in the car because it's hardwired. Pointless to hardwire it if I'm gonna take it out every time because I can't take advantage of parking mode.
