Any dashcam recommended for basic recording (don't need WiFi, GPS, etc.) and that's reliable (ie. leave it on 365 days a year regardless hot or cold)?

I kind of regret going cheap and picking up a G1W-C from Aliexpress and it's basically not working properly.

I know (or read) that some of the high end dashcam (ie Blackvue) used to have problem with the heat in the summer, is that still the case?

Check out the Blackvue from BB a couple of posts above yours. Has the powermagic for recording while car is off, and its a cheaper model because it lacks the stuff you dont even want. Sounds like a good fit. And I think only the original Dr400 had horrible overheating problems(im currently using that one, which I got during the first group buy here), but the new ones should be much better(or so ive read).

Those of you with the DR650 2CH, how are you guys exporting video? If I use the blackvue program to export the video, I gotta do one at a time (cant do both front and rear) and the audio cuts out like 3 seconds into the clip. Weird part is the audio is fine when playing back on the blackvue viewer on PC. Same thing when dragging file out from the sd card, audio is only limited to a couple seconds before going silent on both channels.

Any easier way to do this along with making a vid with both front and rear in the video?

Edit: Nevermind it seems to be my Vegas Pro thats cutting audio out, but only for blackvue clips. I dont get it :okay:

Sd card -> hard drive -> Windows movie maker  I'm a basic bitch
If I want to show front and rear I use premiere pro, no problem with Audio

For Playback I just use VLC, I'm running 128GB and both my computer and blackvue viewer will lag a fair bit cause there's thousands of files.

Vegas has problems with both blackvue and finevu video files for some reason. I have to put my clips through Windows Movie Maker first before importing them into Vegas.

I've never had issues with my blackvue video files in Vegas Pro. Not sure if anything has changed though, since I rarely upload any videos now.

did you get a dud? beceause alixpress has tons of fake shit
i would buy from places people can confirm has real stuff on dashcam talk...my g1wc from gearbest was legit.

tomatogunk 01-27-2016 12:27 PM

The A118C is currently on sale for $50 usd or roughly $72 CAD. According to Dash Cam Talk, the A118 is an upgrade over the G1WC, has a better build quality and is more discreet.

Pulled the trigger on one. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Gh0stRider 02-08-2016 10:08 PM

looking at either a g1w or dod ls460w to go in my work car. g1w is nice and cheap, however some user here having some bad experiences with gearbest and aliexpress.

MG1 02-08-2016 10:54 PM

I have two LS460w's - very happy with them. I see they're dropping in price again.

Only complaint I have with the unit is no parking mode, but whatever.

If you visit redflagdeals, many members have problem with gearbest, specifically customer service (not the product itself), though I never have any personal experience with their service.

If you want to trade your private info for a free dashcam:

Andy Rubin plans Gmail model for AI-teaching dashcam - SlashGear

Android creator and former Google exec Andy Rubin wants to give you a dashboard camera, but you have to agree to help him build an Artificial Intelligence in return. Speculation about the serial inventor's current project have escalated in the months since he left Google and established Playground, a collaborative incubator for next-generation technologies, and now Rubin is giving a hint of what's to come.

Although a dashcam might not seem like a typically Rubin-style moonshot, it's exactly how he plans to distribute it as well as capitalize on the data it collects that makes the project intriguing.

Speaking to Wired, Rubin confirmed that he and the group at the Playground intend to give the unnamed dashcam away. In return, however, users will be expected to feed the data the car camera records into Playground's cloud.

One possible use for that data is building a visual map of the world, in real-time, by using every car equipped with the hardware as a roving probe. It's an early step in Rubin's scheme to put sensors into as many places as possible, and then use the gush of information they generate to teach an evolving AI.

Alby 03-28-2016 09:28 AM

for those using the blackvue, does the dashcam have the function where you can press a button and it file protects the current clip its recording?

Don't think my DR550GW has that feature. Not really an issue though, memory cards are cheap, so buying a 34 or 64gig isn't such a big deal these days.

just rather be able to save the current clip and protect it, rather than pulling out the card later and skimping thru hundreds of clips looking for one specific thing or maybe it's not even there and its overwritten.

CCA-Dave 03-28-2016 12:42 PM

Everything is timestamped. Pretty easy to find a clip you want, if you know the time it occurred. Not too difficult to note or remember a time, especially if it's something important. If it is important, not sure how you would find it's been overwritten...a 32gb card in my 550 will last for 7 hours of video before it starts recording over. That is a lot of driving, and a whole lot of "parked at the airport".

xXSupa 03-29-2016 02:23 PM

I think you guys are missing the point lol. It's not about whether he can/can't find it. It's just more convenient to have a save button so you know exactly when it happened without needing to remember a time (which you'll probably forget if you're out all day).

Speaking of which, I am actually also looking to change my camera and that feature is something I' looking for. From what I know, Blackvues do not have it. I was told that Thinkware and BlackSys dashcams have the feature. Some FineVu cameras have the feature as well.

Anyone using the samsung evo micro sd on a blackvue?

Thinking of getting one. My 32gb is meh. I find that my recordings are being being recorded over since i forget to extract it within a day. Damn parking mode. Might get the 128gb

IMASA 03-29-2016 03:51 PM

Can someone recommend a dash camera that has a very good motion detection (sensitive and has far range detection)?

I use mine as a video surveillance system when I'm parked at home. I'm currently using the Matego MG800 from Autolismo.

The motion detection range and sensitivity is pretty good (3-4 car lengths ahead), but wondering if there was something better. Also since the camera is on the passenger side of the mirror, I find it's able to detect motion on the passenger side very well, but not so much on the driver side.

im using the evo 64GB, seems to be working well, just rmb to use the format tool from blackvue to format the car before use, else no matter how u formate the micro sd it wont be recognized by the camera
