I'd go for better resolution. When my car was involved in a hit and run, the cops said being able to clearly see the other vehicle's plates expedited my case.

Anyone know of an recommended place to get hardwire installation for my dashcams (Blackvue DR650GW-2CH) and how much it would cost.
Thanks

TSS in Burnaby
$50 labor

$50 should be for a 1CH, 2CH would be a bit more and also depends if it's a hatchback where you need to feed the cable through to the hatch door.

BEST BUY SALE ALERT:

BlackVue 1-Channel Full HD 1080p Dashcam with 16GB SD Card (DR3500-FHD)
includes powermagic pro!!!

sale ends tonight... if you're still holding out on a dashcam, this is a good deal. (although BB typically runs a sale on this bundle once every month)

I recently bought a dash cam (Blackvue DR650GW-2CH). Thought about getting it installed but decided to do it myself. It was so simple, pop the fuse and just read the label on which fuse to wrap the cable to. Hiding the wire was a breeze, you could probably pop the liner with a sturdy spoon/fork.

Bump...

Anyone have experience with BlackBoxMyCar in Richmond? I'm looking to buy and have them do the installation.

I bought my Blackvue from them. Mind you this was back when he was still running his operation out of his house (probably a couple of years ago). They're reputable - I wouldn't have any problems buying from them again and their prices are reasonable.

I did my own installation so I can't comment on their install services though.

I've purchased at least 6 dash cams from Alex. No issues whatsoever. Like syee, I do my own installation, so no comment on the type of work they do.

Of all the things I've purchased from him, the external power unit has got to be the coolest thing. It charges while your car is running and stores the power in battery form. While you are parked, your dashcam runs off the external.

Any idea if there's

a) a newer version to the Mini 0806? It's been out for over a year now.
b) the best place to pick up one? Not in a hurry. How low does some of the past sale prices go down to?

Thanks

Edited: It seems like Mini 0826 is newer?
Wider in size. But the specs is all the same...using the same A7LA50 chipset, etc.
Only difference is internal 8gb + external vs. the 806 having dual microsd.

0807 with capacitor and Sony IMX322 should be available soon
0826 is like the uglier cousin of the 0806, no point really

i-vtecyo 08-13-2016 10:30 PM

just wondering who else leaves their blackvue or dash cam on 24/7? any way to prevent the lens from fogging up?

Acura604 08-24-2016 07:49 PM

has anyone tried a 64gig sdcard in a Blackvue dashcam that states it only supports up to 32gig? I've noticed that with the combination of parking mode, a 32gig wont' even be able to store a full 8-9hrs while parked at work before data gets overwritten when set for full hd/1080P.

I guess I'll just have to try it.... the dashcam in question is the very basic FHD3500 series.

Bender Unit 08-24-2016 09:30 PM

Yes and it didn't work.
I put a 64GB sdcard into my DR500 wifi ( I think )
It won't recognize the 64GB SDcard.

twitchyzero 09-12-2016 10:43 PM

anyone running a higher end camera say from lukas/thinkware for a few years without issues?

noticed my g1w with capacitor no longer records if it's been sitting outside on nice days even if it's under shade. After parking in a garage it's totally fine.

so should I invest in a more expensive one or are they all kinda prone to heat issues after a year or two...capacitors or not?

godwin 09-13-2016 08:25 AM

I had a lukas.. still working.. but technology moves so fast I don't think it is worth paying more than $100 / camera.

Problem with any capacitor / battery in camera is heat. I think the best way to get around it is to hook the camera to a li ion battery pack, some where in the foot well.. get that to supply power to the camera and skip the power in camera nonsense.
