china and vancouver utilized those huge moving screens on the floor which made everything pretty to watch. london had none of that which made it boring.

Harvey Specter 07-28-2012 04:04 AM

Would posting the link be considered copy written material?

I actually didn't like this opening ceremony at all. There were a couple decent parts like the James Bond thing but overall I was just bored.

The Beijing one imo anyway is still the best I've seen by a long shot.

Don't really care either way though I just want to see the events and see history being made again.

I just discovered that Oscar Pistorus, the Blade Runner finally got into the Olympics!
I want to see him kick some asses. He's half man, half blade. So cool!

Seems strange to be able to compete in the 'full' olympics without legs.. I mean whether it's a disadvantage to him or an advantage, it's not a level playing field either way...

hal0g0dv2 07-28-2012 07:47 AM

lots of fuck ups in mens gymnastics today

Gh0stRider 07-28-2012 07:55 AM

canada womens soccer win... Yaaa

Gridlock 07-28-2012 07:57 AM

I found the beginning part to be a real downer. My only thought was "who thought the guy that brought us Trainspotting and 127 Hours would have an uplifting opening ceremony?" with the industrial revolution destroying farm land and monsters chasing sick children.

I didn't watch Beijing, so I can't really compare, but I don't think you'd be able to out do a country that had a sole purpose to make themselves look awesome to the world-look what we can do!

It did end up taking on a nice tongue in cheek element which I liked..the Mr. Bean part and the James Bond part. I thought she was goingt o take on more the role of M which would have been awesome, but getting the Queen to do that would be a challenge ;)

Overall, it didn't blow me away.

Honestly though, I don't think Vancouver would blow people away either...we liked it because we got it and it was us. You can really see the change in scale...summer to winter is like 10 times the size in scale and budget. Our music was better.

guy at work said because of his disability he won't be able to fully develop his quads like normal runners...and he probably won't get a medal...but there'll be controversy if he wins anything. i'll still be rooting for him to do well.

Matlock 07-28-2012 08:11 AM

^The Blade Runner has to depend more on his hips than anything else. His running style is completely different because of his prosthetics. Nevertheless, this should be quite interesting to watch.

He had his legs amputated as a baby and had to create his own running style. So, it's not like any runner could just amputate themselves and expect to do as well.

He's not the fastest, but he keeps up well enough.

So what if the prosthetics somehow made him way faster than any other human, and he broke every record that existed?

It seems that they feel since "he's not going to win anyway" it's OK for him to compete

as much as beach vball is awesome 'cause they wear close to nothing, i enjoy indoor vball on nbc more.

6 vs 6 = high chances of longer rally + more options = more entertaining.
