wow at all the doping crying from that 400m race. I bet if it wasn't an American who got 2nd who would care.

SkinnyPupp 07-30-2012 08:25 PM

It's the Olympics, we should be celebrating when someone does something amazing.

Nm. they came out with a fix. it's all good now!!!!

Poor South Korean fencer got screwed over by the Olympic Officials so badly... With one second to go, the clock got stuck and Germany was able to land a hit to take the win. The one second left never started.

That looked like under 1 second to me

mopar 07-30-2012 09:12 PM

wow china is really strong in sports. i think they are the world's most powerful country. Canada only has one bronze. sad.

Ronin 07-30-2012 09:15 PM

It was close. I thought 1 second would be over by the time of the first lunge forward and parry. They could've looked at a timestamped video to determine whether the touch was in time or not.

I'm sure most of the athletes you see competing for China were born for specifically this purpose. Just wait til like 2020...

Man that's heartbreaking. Being so close to something only to have a slow clock screw you over :seriously: Maybe an hourglass could have been more reliable

SkinnyPupp 07-30-2012 09:37 PM

People realize that it takes one second for a clock to go from 1 to 0, right?

And if you listen to the 'beeps' the clock started and stopped within 1 second.

It was close, and they really should have a clock that displays tenths, but after deliberation, it's clear that the right decision was made.

I understand the Koreans wanting to argue it there, but for people here to have the ability to look at replays and still think it was over 1 second is full of fuck

AW607 07-30-2012 09:51 PM

Maybe it was timely, but on this end it didn't look alright. Like Ronin said, maybe a timestamped recording would have been necessary? It was very close nonetheless

SkinnyPupp 07-30-2012 09:58 PM

If you look at the video, it wouldn't be too hard to count the frames for yourself. The video will most likely be 30 frames per second. If fewer than 30 frames went by between the beeps, then it's legit and confirmable by yourself.

The problem was the ambiguity of the clock's display, not the clock itself.

You do not see the full action here, the clock was actually at 0:01 for 3 full actions (attacks), the clock then went to 0 due to human error, so they RESET the clock at a full second (0:01) instead of the actual fraction of a second it really was (closer to .025 or .02 seconds) and then the action showed here which takes about .9 seconds is the FOURTH action in the official final "second" that is why there is such an uproar, it was a fucked up call.

From comments:

The clock malfunctioned for total of four attacks from the German side (not included in this video). Three of those attacks were won (defended) by the Korean, the last one when the clock finally started was in fact won by the german competitor. The Korean defended her win 3 times before the clock finally started working and was sure that she is in the final before the 4th chance was given to the german.

Olympics (as always) are full of bs this year...

I've only been following Korea, but Park Tae Hwan's DQ and then allowing him back, that Judo match against the Japanese, fencing, etc.

Then they displayed the south korean flag during a north Korean soccer game, and this time when China and South Korea won joint silver in swimming, they displayed China's flag under the Korean flag.

Asian forums are full of people complaining the English are looking down on asians lol

red_sir 07-31-2012 03:58 AM

I'm assuming they said the S. Korean athlete won.

Could only go by the info presented. To me it looked like she won with 1 second left, since it took less than 1 second to get the point.

If what you're saying is true, that's messed up!
