man.. nokia should get license from Google to use the Android OS... then I bet they would be selling like hotcakes..

areyounoob 09-03-2012 04:47 PM

^no. Android OS would make the phone slow as fuck. I always pass by people on their Androids/iPhones on the bus and notice their lag when scrolling down their Facebook feed, yet my Lumia 900 doesn't lag one bit.

Nokia + Windows Phone = :megusta:
I'm currently with the Lumia 900 and the experience is incredibly fast. Almost flawless. Nokia Drive is what sold me.

bigzz786786 09-03-2012 05:13 PM

^ I agree, I had the Nokia n8, then n9 meego, then I really wanted the s3, but Rogers offered me a free lumia 900 if I renew for 3 years, I was curious about it, now that I have my hands on it, I can't seem to see myself with the s3 anymore. I absolutely love this phone. No lag, to complex screens, and very easy to use. Can't wait to see what wp8 has to offer for Nokia, if they have svoice capabilities but for Nokia then I'm pretty much sold!

is N9 not good compare to lumia 900? I am curious, in both operating system speed and smoothness and App store availability.

shenmecar 09-04-2012 12:56 PM

I do like the variety of colours for these phones. So sharp!

N9 is a very good phone, but its the first and last of its kind, nokia has disbanded the meego team and meego ended up creating there own company. they will eventually bring out new phones, but nokia has the rights to N9, so meego cannot support N9 and nokia doesn't support N9 anymore. new apps for the meego N9 will be through third party. and no more software updates.

interms of smoothness and speed, it has its glitches (a lot). i would choose the lumia 900 over the n9 (hate to say it)

FerrariEnzo 09-04-2012 01:59 PM

how is the 3rd party support for nokias?

I saw on youtube, some dude with N9, but running Android 4.04

bigzz786786 09-04-2012 03:03 PM

^3rd party apps are unofficial apps, sometimes they can have viruses in them

but the same thing goes with android, they have unofficial apps and some of them are really cool.

im definitely keeping my N9 meego thats for sure, its still a great phone. the only thing is, once i went to lumia 900, the screen on the meego feels small

way2quik 09-04-2012 07:37 PM

I hope the 920 is a penta band 3G phone. It's either this or the Xperia T/TX.

The N9 is better than the lumia :) Hell its better than Android :)

The only downside is the App Support isn't there and it may* never be there since Nokia Disbanded their Maemo team and Meego was dead in the water (having said that though Nokia is still releasing updates for the N9 they released 1 today actually; and so are App makers)

Now just to be clear the Nokia N9 isn't a Meego device its a Maemo device Maemo 6 to be exact codenamed Harmattan the N9 simply supports Meego APIs

Its an excellent phone with top of the line UX (just ask bcrdukes) if the APP community is a bit dry for you you could always install Android Jellybean as a dual boot and use whatever app you want from there

* The disbanded Maemo/Meego team have split off and made their own company called Jolla Mobile (with financial support from Nokia as a "goodbye package") who will be presenting their new devices near the end of this year with a slim chance of an actual release, which is expected in early 2013; they're going to be premium devices though and they will have support for Android apps; and there is a lot of hype surrounding Jolla even by Forbes/WSJ

Now the community for the N9 is very strong and they're constantly working at supporting the N9 and its believed that any app that will end up working with the coming Jolla devices will work or get ported for the N9 but this is too early to really say

It depends on which Nokia OS you're talking about; the Symbian community is pretty strong not what it used to be but strong, lots of apps, mods, custom firmwares etc
Maemo/Meego has a smaller but dedicated community and you really just find mods and hacks here the community is fully anticipating/backing Jolla Mobile right now (as they'll be releasing maemo/meego devices)
Windows Phone there's no community support since its microsoft and they've got the OS pretty locked down and well there's not a lot of WP Adopters just yet but I imagine that'll change soon but by how much ???

StylinRed 09-05-2012 06:59 AM

Just announced the Pureview 920 uses a "Floating lens" for image stabilization (the entire sensor is hooked up on "springs")

check out mynokiablog.com or theverge etc if you're interested in more im going to be busy today :/

All currently released phones running android have that. So it's not unusual for wp8 to need something similar.

StylinRed 09-05-2012 11:38 AM

an example of nokias image stabilization

UPDATE: this video is a lie! its been found that they didn't film this with the 920 let alone with a guy on the bicycle; if you look at 0:25 at the car in the background there's a mirror and in the reflection you see a guy filming from a van with a rig holding whatever device they're using to film

Nokia has basically said "teehee whoops our bad" and issued an apology/excuse here http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/...pology-is-due/

The camera has an F2.0 aperature

image capture in almost complete darkness apparently compared with the 4S (screen quality is also a consideration here)

http://blog.laptopmag.com/wpress/wp-...nds-on-141.jpg

you're able to make animated images etc etc

shame they didn't include this on the 808 pureview as thats in dire need of some stabilization imo probably couldnt fit the stabilization unit with that huge sensor though

The Whitepaper for Pureview Lumia if you want to know more about the tech

Video regarding the PureMotionHD+ screen

anyway all in all im not impressed with these 2 phones but ive always been biased against WP if it had Symbian Id buy it to try out ;) maybe ill gift the 920 to a family member anyways

updated the OP with the actual info/releases instead of the rumors

Still think Nokia makes great phones (except my old N97) but I would not give up Android for it.

AVS_Racing 09-05-2012 07:25 PM

hm.... I never liked the newer windows, the x8 had a pretty bad layout, and seemed unresponsive but I might give this a try if there's enough app support.

asian_XL 09-05-2012 08:05 PM

185g for a phone with 4.5"...that's heavier than a galaxy note.
and no SD slot. :( Why not Samsung Atvis?

StylinRed 09-05-2012 08:40 PM

185g?! geez that's heavier than my 808 pureview (169g) and everyone calls it a brick

The Nokia Lumia 920 is the shortest phone at 130 x 70.8 x 10.7mm,but the heaviest at 185g. Samsung manages to squeeze in at a similar size of 136.6 x 70.6 but is the thinnest at 8.6 mm, and weighs only 133g.

820 is at 160g

StylinRed 09-06-2012 10:02 AM

yeah i went and looked at the tech specs too can't believe it 16g heavier :crazy2: must be the bigger battery & wireless charging unit etc

asian_XL 09-06-2012 06:54 PM

^ 2000mah isn't that big at all
