I would highly recommend a big SSD, like a Crucial M500 960GB

StylinRed 11-11-2013 03:34 PM

As for external drives I read that you simply couldnt save games to an external drive but you can still use external drives that you have media on to (although there's conflicting info)

Not sure if srs, but ur gonna stick a hdd that costs more than the machine itself :lawl:

I was thinkin along the lines of a seagate 1TB SSHD, cheap fast n plenty of storage

If you have ever witnessed how much it speeds up load times, even on the PS3, it is worth it!

G-spec 11-11-2013 04:46 PM

damn near 1tb SSD just to stick in your PS4, yea I think only super hardcore gamers will even consider investing that much money

I'm going with one of those 250gb'ish SSD's, don't wanna spend more than $200 after taxes... should be enough since I'm only interested in yearly sports titles, so basically I would just end up deleting the files from Fifa 14 when Fifa 15 comes out thus clearing up space

Only other game I really want is Gran Turismo when it comes out, I don't even wanna know what the install size for that sumbitch is gonna be, I honestly expect probably something around 60gb for mandatory, and 100gb+ for "optimal" experience....

SkinnyPupp 11-11-2013 04:51 PM

With 30GB+ install sizes, and no support for external HDD, you are very limited. I guess the only other option is to stick with a slow mechanical HDD.

HonestTea 11-11-2013 06:29 PM

Haven't been charged by FS yet :(

StylinRed 11-11-2013 06:30 PM

Well the 960gb ssd is going for $580 right now maybe black friday we'll see it for a nice price

I know that feel bro

Iceman_2K 11-11-2013 07:55 PM

SSD in a PS is the way to go...the boot times are like magical...

StylinRed 11-11-2013 07:57 PM

Id like to know why my killzone 4 pre-order hasn't shipped.... you're already able to get it in stores and online

I emailed customer service over the weekend and only just got a response saying they've opened an investigation and it can take up to 10 days?!

wtf

guess i'll just pick it up in store and return the pre-order when it ships

you'd recommend people spending $1000 on a console? :suspicious:

probably safer to wait to see if it makes a dramatic reduction in load time...at 500GB it should be plenty unless you're going almost digital (now that PS+ is pretty much mandatory to play online perhaps the deals wont be as good any more)

580$ @ tigerdirect $588 @ amazon.ca

for those that care i just heard that the XboxOne doesn't play 3D Blu-Rays; msft said they may add the feature in the future but no plans as of yet

SkinnyPupp 11-11-2013 09:13 PM

Get a smaller one then, and just keep few games installed

I was just saying, SSD is worth it. It's too bad they don't allow external storage though. USB 3.0 in UASP mode is just as fast as SATA, even with SSD (almost).

Jeff Gertzmann says the PS4 design has one very minor flaw.. it doesnt lay flat..

kingdrew 11-12-2013 09:37 AM

Bestbuy and Futureshop both have charged my cc. It's happening :) :)

im going to wait to see all first production flaws come out and be resolved before purchasing.. like every new gen there will be unforeseen issues that i rather avoid

the price is sooo tempting though!

Another PS4 Unboxing - YouTube

Maybe you're supposed to buy a $35 stand for it :lawl:

Edit: OMG that design is horrible :heckno:

bakasam 11-12-2013 05:28 PM

Anyone know if you preordered online: do they ship on the day of or are we suppose to be receiving it on the day of?

MarkyMark 11-12-2013 05:46 PM

You'll get it the day of if you actually got one of the first batch of pre orders

so the OS n reserved space itself is close to 100GB, that makes only 400Gb out of the 500GB oem hdd useable. If i go for a smaller SSD like say 256GB, only 156GB is useable while 100GB is used for OS and system.

A 500GB PlayStation 4 Will Give You About 400GB of Storage

As for preorder ps4s, can i pick it up instead of having it shipped? i would much perfer to pick it up than having it shipped to my hse as i might not be home

futureshop did charge me yesterday too, nth from bestbuy

bakasam 11-12-2013 06:13 PM

My CC was charged but shipping still says "Pre order" status
