Now, my hands are itchy wanting to buy few more RTX 3080 just for mining....

If BTC keeps going up, mining will pay for itself in a few weeks! Or if you look back at January 2021 from January 2022, maybe it took a day to make that much! PogChamp PogChamp PogChamp

Heavily invested into crypto right now. Holding miner stocks, holding crypto itself, and now farming crypto, lol.

Tempted to get a second card so I can game on my computer without having to pause the mining. But then I'll need a new case, motherboard, and power supply.

SkinnyPupp 01-09-2021 02:20 AM

In that case you might as well buy a dedicated BTC mining rig... God I haven't looked at those since the first ASIC miners that looked like USB thumb drives. I still have about 10 of those somewhere LUL

Manic! 01-09-2021 02:44 AM

a dedicated BTC rig will be hard to get they like to sell in quantity, they also run 220 volt and sound like a jet engine.

This is a 8 GPU motherboard with ram and a CPU for $250. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...code=undefined

Just mount it on some wood no need for a case.

Razor Ramon HG 01-09-2021 02:12 PM

I remember there being a RS Google+ group chat like several years ago about buying a bunch of miners together. I remember being in it with Skinny, Ulic and a few others. Whatever happened to it?

SkinnyPupp 01-09-2021 02:14 PM

I think the chat archive is still there on google somewhere if you were to look for it!

I always thought the calculations were wrong, because everyone uses "today's price" which at the time was around $900 probably. You have to think in terms of what the price COULD be if you really want to consider the risk! And yes that means $0! But if you assume the price is going to be $40K, $60K, $100K, things are going to be quite different aren't they

Exactly, if market crash. Everything will be different.

I would only buy GPU, not Miner.
If Crypto market crashed, those Miners become bricks. Just like 3 years ago......

RTX 3080 still have its value.

Manic! 01-09-2021 03:57 PM

This is the new asci miner for Ethereum. Itdoes 2600 MH/s using 3000 watts.

https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/thavuNxIVssp35h5jQUBHg

That's more than 26 RTX 3080's Using less than 1/2 the power and way less space.

After power cost, you would be making 7K Can (4.4 eth) a month at current prices.
The only downside is it only has 4.4 gigs of vram so it will only run for about a year before the dag becomes too big then you have to switch to another coin like eth classic.

Everyone is.

My friend and I are building a rig with 4x 3080 cards. Wish me luck lol

What are you using for PSU's and what are you doing about the heat?

Question... So why doesn't this linzhi company just use all these units their making to mine eth themselves and make bank?

They've probably been mining with them for 8 months already and are moving on to the next revision :fuckthatshit:

Trust me they have been thoroughly tested.

StylinRed 01-09-2021 10:49 PM

I'm not saying they don't work, just wondering about the thought process

Like if I made this machine that could mine a shit load of money... Why would I sell it, I'd just mine moar n moar money

But having an even better golden goose in use makes sense

It's like why would a diamond mining equipment manufacturer sell the equipment instead of mining it themselves? Miners are taking a risk by buying equipment, paying for power to run them, administration, etc.

They're providing the hardware at little risk to them, while at the same time I'm sure they do some mining with them as well, since unlike diamond mining, there isn't nearly as much risk with buying land, logistics, etc

StylinRed 01-09-2021 11:05 PM

I'm sleepy n confused but trying to wrap my head around mining :lol kinda wanna stick my foot in to see tho

threezero 01-10-2021 12:12 AM

Mining on a smaller scale is only profitable if the outlook for the coin is straight up.

Unless you have free electricity somehow B.C. hydro rate is expensive. Difficulty keep increasing as more and more people join the party as btc raise. It’s all evens out eventually as you will need to upgrade you hardware to stay competitive.

The kicker is you are buy your hardware from manufacture that are selling you last generation hardware to begin with. They have already move on to the next step up light year ahead of any small player (who basically have to buy their hardware to get into the game)

All good if BTC raise. But all of the smaller player with shallow bank roll will get rekt when a correction come. Mining is a long game with equipment upgrade being able to hold through bear market and the constant expense of keeping the rigs going.

If you just want exposure to crypto, just hold the coins you benefit when the price goes up just like the miner but you minimize the downside because unlike the miners you can exit relatively easily

As a hobby thou it’s really fun.

Just my opioion from mining the last bull run we had...

StylinRed 01-10-2021 12:30 AM

I read mining eth has a end date bcuz eth 2.0?

And with these asic rigs it seems like returns would just drop n drop

You got 2 years before with 2.0 kills miner's.

I’ll update when I find out. He’s the one building it. I’m just here to collect haha

Soo in terms of cpu/ram/hdd/etc the specs on those don't matter right? Like you could go as cheap as possible with those and it won't affect your mining since its all on the gpu?

Not that it really matters since I can't find any 3080s I guess

CORRECT!!

I just pulled all those risers, few mobos, mining frame and PSUs from garage.
Now, just wait for 3080s arrive.

hopefully, market does not crash before we can get hands on 3080s
