Im surprised these 2 haven't come up; Chaise & Crave both on Main Street not to far from splitz and better burgers imo.

The Rogue Burger at Rogue Wetbar is one of my local favorites, 9.2oz patty, served medium rare, so good. You don't find too many places locally that serve their burgers a bit pink, medium rare

Chaise is pretty good. Good food, good service.

Not a fan of Crave though. Gave them 2, 3 chances, since I live in the area, but everything seems really bland and.. dry? Tried their pasta, burger, and even their brunch. Was not a fan. But I mean, they've been in business for quite some time now, so they must be doing something right.

Splitz on Main wins by a loooong shot in my books.
After having Splitz, even Vera's seemed very "meh." Might be my #1.

Rogue is one of the better ones, compared to Cactus, Earls, Joeys, etc etc.
But I can't really complain since I almost always eat free there :D

buddy 03-13-2013 08:16 AM

The best burger I had is from this little restaurant, it simply had a green door and a red neon sign that said "burger". ... just that it was on a numbered street...

PJ 03-13-2013 09:18 AM

^ I see what you did there... :fullofwin:

meowjinboo 03-15-2013 03:13 AM

splitz is terrible.

you guys are on crack.

I don't think you should outright dismiss the place. They do serve good burgers. Unfortunately, my experience with the Main Street location has been hit and miss. But for an honest, unpretentious burger, they do a very good job.

I have never been disappointed by the Whistler location.

Whistler location's great. But part of that might be because you've been out in the snow all day, so anything warm and greasy would taste good :fullofwin:

Last winter, I remember I had a burger from Splitz on Main one week, and a burger from Vera's on Main the next. Comparing the 2, Vera's was just terrible.

I like what you said about the honesty and lack of pretence. I don't care about fancy this or that. It's a damn burger.

Durrann 03-15-2013 07:17 AM

^ oh god Vera's burger i had it once
wasnt juicy at ALL

shark clubs double fister burger isnt bad but its just missing something
i dont know what it is

PJ 03-15-2013 08:53 AM

Vera's wasn't half-bad, once upon a time. But it seems that their quality went down after expanding. Looks like they spread themselves out too thin.

european 03-15-2013 09:55 AM

I recently had another burger from Five Guys and I'm still pleased. My brother brought up an interesting point that I thought I should share with you guys and gals.

Is it possible that we're all just spoiled? We have such a wide variety of burgers around the lower mainland all made with pretty good quality ingredients that its becoming difficult to decide who has the best burger in town? Everyone has different tastes though, whether its the quality of meet, how well its prepared and cooked or perhaps its the toppings and how juicy everything is.

I'm not a food critic nor am I a burger connoisseur but I'm interested to hear what do you guys think.

The Rogue was one the best venues we went to when we had a boys night out.

Our waitress (Stephanie) was AMAZING. Completely made the night.

Rolled with the punches and had a few zingers of her own.

Took off the mandatory tip and allowed us to tip whatever we wanted. Suffice to say, we tipped her way more.

Oh, we're definitely spoiled, living in the lower mainland.

You can really get into it if you want - It can depend on the company, the recipes, the specific cooks that specific day, the time of day you eat there, the ingredients, the supplier of the ingredients, etc etc. But I think we're just talking generally.

It's all relative, right? You bring price into the equation, and then ask yourself would you rather pay $10 for this burger or $10 for that burger?

But like you said in the end, everyone has different tastes. When it comes to burgers, for a lot of people including myself, it's all in the patty and the sauce.

Try it out, even in the summer. I don't go to Whistler very often in the winter but when I go there, it's usually in the spring or summer.

PJ 03-15-2013 06:45 PM

Haha, I've been to Whistler Splitz once, and it was amazing. But I was snowboarding all day as well.

Five Guys Burgers is good.

I don't think we are spoiled. I think we have alot of variety of different burger joints, except most of them aren't good, and the ones that we think are good are just mediocre, compared to your American counterpart.

Heck, even a city like Seattle that's NOT known for having good diners beats anything we have up here. Once you've tried the finer burgers in the States, everything else we have here is just below-par.

Just like one poster mentioned, you rarely find burger joints here that serve their burger patties partially pink. In the states, any half decent burger joint/diner would serve your burger patties medium done. It's a sign of high quality in-house made beef patties.

Even though I haven't had a Vera's burger in years, I remember them being REALLY good years ago when they only had like one or two locations. The ingredients were fresh and the patties were juicy. Has the quality suffered that much?

This.

One of the best burgers I had in LA was at a chain called slaters 50/50. I had a picture somewhere, but it was essentially called 50/50 because half the patty is beef and the other half is bacon.

I got a 1 1/2 pound burger and you essentially choose your own toppings.

The reason I push 5 guys so much, is because there is no fancy sauce (think in and out and triple o's) that they rely on. It's just a simple burger with regular ingredients. The fact that the burger stood out to me because of that was why I love it so much.

Everytime I get in this argument with Americans I get them to admit that they love the 1000 island dressing.

meowjinboo 03-15-2013 09:35 PM

Also I've been told that umami burger is quite good.

bcrdukes 03-15-2013 10:13 PM

Umami is good, yes, but they rely too much on sauce.

striderblade 03-17-2013 09:31 PM

anyone know if five guys is open? Website still said insert renovation and I went to park royal today and couldn't find the damn joint. Lol if you guys know can you please direct me to where exactly is located? Thanks
