he's probably exaggerating a little with the word several, but i'm sure there are discussions with a few teams here and there.

:lawl:

It's not that I don't think he's talking to potential suitors, but he's been in the process of talking to other teams for over a year now. Teams will simply wait it out for the Canucks to buyout Luongo or offer a shitty contract back in return. Aside from the Islanders, Caps, Panthers and Flyers, who else needs a goalie and would Luongo okay the deal?

Agreed.
Gillis is a bad poker player, and I'm not drinking his Kool Aid anymore. Personally, I'd like to see Lu stick around for a while. I like his style and still believe he has a Cup in him.

Corey Crawford eloquently sums up the Blackhawks 2013 Stanley Cup run - YouTube

Crawford looks ridiculous wearing his goalie-cut jersey without any gear underneath. :D

My primer for the top 5 UFAs coming off great playoff performances:

jpark37 06-28-2013 12:17 PM

Also, you gotta think Luongo will be traded at the draft if he isn't going to be bought out in the buyout period. He can't be on the team next season and this team is already has no cap space.

highfive 06-28-2013 12:22 PM

I forgot who tweeted it but Luongo's situation is this.

1. Trade
2. Throw him on waivers (Apparently people thinks someone will pick Luongo up)
3. Buyout.

And Islanders is still interested. Maybe a DP for Luongo and with some assets coming back this way.

7seven 06-28-2013 12:27 PM

A lot of GMs would take Lu on waivers, his cap hit is great for the level of goaltending Lu brings. Sure the length of contract sucks, but for most GMs, they know if they don't win now or soon, they won't be around long or have to worry about the consequences of the deal long term.

Finding a trade partner is trickier as no one wants to give up assets, especially when you know the Canucks want to move him bad.

spoon.ek9 06-28-2013 12:29 PM

we're definitely getting lowballed for lu... it's just a matter of when gillis decides to cave.

Mike Oxbig 06-28-2013 12:31 PM

Must get Rob Scuderi for 3rd D pairing.... after trading or buying out ballard.

Horton probably won't come here and is seeking 5.5-6 mill long term
Bickell will resign with CHI

You forget a fourth possibility:

4. Stays, and other goaltender gets traded. ;)

And the winner of the EA SPORTS NHL 14 Cover Vote campaign is...

New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur!

murd0c 06-28-2013 02:49 PM

Not the best player now but he was back in the day and I'm happy for him!!

punkwax 06-28-2013 02:58 PM

The Luongo name also sells merchandise. He brings more than great goaltending to a franchise.

He'll be dealt. Just current circumstances (cap going down, goalies currently available) will affect his return.

murd0c 06-28-2013 03:09 PM

On the bright side of things even if we don't get much for him we will be happy with at least something. Last summer we would of been bitching non-stop about how Gillies did a shitty job and should get fired since we didn't get enough from Lu

Hondaracer 06-28-2013 03:17 PM

holy fuck what a parade

kristianhay 06-28-2013 05:01 PM

Looks like GMMG really dropped the ball on this one, tough pill to swallow if we get absolutely nothing for him.

Hearing VAN Canucks are now contemplating using a compliance buyout on Roberto Luongo since they're having a hard time trading him.

Josh Rimer ‏@JoshRimerHockey 22m
I'm not in anyway saying they'll do it, but they have discussed it and it looks like a possible option.

hotshot1 06-28-2013 05:07 PM

Ugh that would be a kick in the balls. I remember people saying last year that Gardiner wasn't enough and now this.

spideyv2 06-28-2013 05:09 PM

Lol anyone wanna bet on if he'll get bought out or not?

Well... now that the GMs around the league know that... Lu's stock just dropped... again.

That Luongo for Scrivens and a 2nd was lulzy

Considering GMs around the league know about this, good luck getting anything more than that
