Just cus joe moe overre there offers a bigger package, if Kesler says I don't wanna go there then that's that lol I think the teams he was willing to waive the NTC were fighting for him NOW, which only goes to show he'll either get the same or less in the summer imo.

Yup very true. I did say that the expected price won't increase, and that they package coming back will likely be less than what was offered.

But why would you rush a Kesler deal for the sake of making one? Having Philly and Detroit sit on their situations for longer may change their minds and they may pursue Kesler again. Add that to the Pittsburgh, Chicago and allegedly Anaheim that were also in the mix, and that's already more teams than the one that was serious about Kesler (Pittsburgh).

People like me expecting a summer deal for Kesler are not saying that ALL 29 teams are in play (because NTC). But Kesler himself had a number of teams that he would've gone to. They will all be in play in the summer.

@SNETPacific: Kesler - "Good thing I listened to Lou. Said even if I wanted out it wasn't gonna happen."

Lu quipped tongue-in-cheek when asked about Kesler allegedly asking to be traded that (something along the lines of) "whether he wants to go or not, he's staying here [in Vancouver]."

RRxtar 03-05-2014 12:44 PM

Should be noted that all NTCs arent the same and they arent all simply no trade. They could be "list 8 teams you wont go to" "list 8 teams you will go to" "final say on where you go" "no movement what so ever" etc

NTC does not completely mean no trade ever. just means that a trade may have some stipulations subject to the players approval. unless your GM is MG,

MindBomber 03-05-2014 12:49 PM

I don't understand why ownership wouldn't allow the Kesler trade.

Is it a spiteful action against GMMG post-Luongo trade?

XplicitLuder 03-05-2014 12:51 PM

They wanna push to make playoffs and they think they can with Kesler. But makes no sense when trading luongo basically says we are going to rebuild.

Schoeder wasnt traded? Preds traded legwand and R.Ellis name was out there.

nah 03-05-2014 12:54 PM

GMs are more desperate at the deadline than in the summer, not making a deal here will hurt the Canucks more. Kesler could have been a piece that took their team to the cup, thus willing to pay a little more.

They would have gotten a lot more for Schneider at the deadline last year than they did at the draft.

Mike Oxbig 03-05-2014 01:04 PM

They wouldn't have gotten shit for Schneider at the dead line last year.

Why are you complaining about the Schneider trade for the 9th overall pick in a deep draft? Schneider as a goaltender got us the most return in recent history involving a goalie trade.

FYI - the london knights are the NY yankee of junior hockey, i highly doubt Bo Horvat will be a bust.

They weren't going to keep him on for next year as he's UFA. Might as well get something in return.

I don't disagree with you and the others in your camp.

But you're dealing with desperation from 1-2 teams (as seen with Kesler's particular situation) at the deadline. In the summer, MG can talk shop to basically everyone on Kesler's list again. As they all seem to be contenders through and through, they understand that Kesler is a piece that can push them over the top for a playoff position and Cup run. I've also said that he package will likely decrease in return in the Summer. But it's possible that with all the teams in play, and considering the talent up for grabs, that the price asked by MG/Frank is met.

And one thing to consider- think of the teams that passed on Kesler at the deadline. Imagine if Pitts/Philly/Chicago/Detroit/Anaheim/whoever is on the list get bounced in the playoffs early, and left to think "what if we had Kesler". I'd be willing to bet that they would quickly resume talks with MG/Frank for a deal in the summer. Plus, a whole season with a team is better for Kesler and the organization picking him up. No "adjustment period" to worry about.

what do you mean?

highfive 03-05-2014 01:49 PM

Looking back at it now.

I think this Canucks reset/retool can happen pretty quick.

The goalies market has been shit the past years if you look back into it. Almost every team has a young up and coming goalie. The only teams that I don't think they are strong in net are Calgary, Toronto, Buffalo, and now Vancouver. That being said, having Lack in net is still a pretty scary thought for most fans.

But look, LA gave Martin Jones a chance, Chicago back in 2010/2011 gave Crawford a chance. Maybe we need to give Lack one too.

As for the quick reset. We still have a large chunk of the core together.

Sedins Burrows
Booth Kesler Kassian
Higgins Matthias Hansen
Sestito Richardson Archibald

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Garrison
Stanton Tanev

You add Santorelli into that mix.

If we buy Booth out in the summer, Canucks are going to have almost $20 million to play with in signing FA. To add that, we have Jensen/Horvat/Gaunce coming up and challenge for a spot.

Man...Lou's tweet, the umbrella/rain at the end got me. lol, rubbing it in.

Until Horvat puts a puck into an NHL net, he's still unproven. How many #1 overall picks have gone bust?

Schneider was a proven commodity.

TPMarko 03-05-2014 01:54 PM

thats IF the sedins/burrows can find their game.

Hondaracer 03-05-2014 02:02 PM

No point to pull off a trade if we get shit back

Also I know where there's smoke there's fire but do we really know Kesler is unhappy?

highfive 03-05-2014 02:05 PM

Kesler is unhappy when the team lose. But I didn't know Torts didn't give him an A to wear this year.

Fixed.

Jmac 03-05-2014 02:14 PM

Technically, he was only half an A last year. A at home, Bieksa A on the road.

FS1992EG 03-05-2014 02:14 PM

Kesler somehow went from god status/captain material to a useless and overrated guy who should be on the first plane out of town after the season. Edler, top 10 in dman points during the regular season, is everybodys new favourite scapegoat and apparently a completely worthless defenseman.

Vancouver has the worst fans in the nhl. Yea... we care about hockey, and we are passioniate, but we are also high maintenance, stuck up, and un-supportive. We are the only team in the playoffs who goes dead silent when losing, and boo's our own team instead of cheering like crazy to try to swing momentum if its not going their way.
