Of course because Nichushkin is in the NHL and Horvat is not.

For all we know Nichushkin's play could degress the next few years cause he was rushed in the NHL and he could be the next Gilbert Brule...

Hell we could've rushed Horvat into the NHL, give him top line minutes like Nichushkin and see how he develops (LOL like that exists in Canucksland), but letting him develop in the OHL seems to be the right move.

It's hard to compare two players who play completely different games :lol. It's like comparing Patrice Bergeron (Horvat) and Rick Nash (Nichushkin). Only time will tell who has a better overall career.

IMO, Nichushkin will likely pan out to be a 80-90 point power winger, whereas Horvat will likely end up as a 50-60 point two-way centre

Picking Bourdon over Kopitar is a big reason why the organization is where it's at

radioman 03-06-2014 12:43 PM

Don't understand you guys bringing up Bourdon/Kopitar. The guy passed away and we never could see what he would have brought to the organization.

If he panned out to be a legit top D-man maybe we wouldn't have needed to Get the other D-men we have and would have picked up some scoring?

There just doesn't seem like a reason to discuss it.

THIS 100%

White over Perron though.................but we did get Ehrhoff for White :lawl:

...except we don't have Ehrhoff OR Perron at the moment :alone:

m3thods 03-06-2014 12:50 PM

I think it's fair to say that any team would take a big skilled center over a top 4 dman that wasn't slated to be the next Pronger/Niedermayer. Bourdon was no doubt skilled and judging by the way he progressed (injuries aside), he looked to be a can't miss. His play at the WJHC was sublime. That said, just because a prospect died doesn't mean that you can't discuss the organization's choice of position when drafting.

So happy that Luongo is happy.

For such a long time poor guy was stuck in a city that never loved him. I wish him well. May he stop pucks until he's well into his 40's

Gina, god bless that strong woman. She had to endure all those years of having her husband make a living in that god forsaken village called, Vancouver.

It's a story book ending. All is well with the Luongo family......... god bless.

And flew him on a private jet to go see his wife when she was in labour.

As a side note, no team should ever put their eggs in one basket for any player.

So if Patrick White dies, we can no longer compare him with Perron?

radioman 03-06-2014 02:00 PM

Compare him all you want. He had a shot. He was an underperforming College player.

Bourdon was a top 10 pick in a deep draft. He won 2 golds for Canada and played very well. Highly touted.

You can play the what if games all you want but do it on 2 players who had the chance to perform.

Mike Oxbig 03-06-2014 02:30 PM

For the butt hurts who think we've coulda gotten more for cory.

Ill do some trade history research for you:
Spoiler!

If Horvat doesn't turn out as projected, blame our scouting staff. The 2013 draft is the deepest since 2003, according to TSN.

jeedee 03-06-2014 02:35 PM

Andrew Raycroft for Tuukka Rask :lawl:

JFJ was desperate to save his job that season so he made the trade for raycroft to make the playoffs. :lawl:

What do you guys think Bourdon would have projected to be?

Top pairing 2 way D?

sonick 03-06-2014 02:51 PM

Bourdon-Tanev pairing :victory:

He looked a lot like his best friend Letang, but reversed. Where Letang was better offensively, Bourdon was more reliable in his own end. I would've guessed him to slot into the top 4, probably second pairing 2-way dman. I would've hoped he'd become better than Bieksa.

Anze could've solidified the Canucks down the middle. He could've even moved Kesler onto the wing. But of course this was before Ryan Kesler was asked to produce more offensively. For all we know, if Anze was drafted Kesler might've been a true shutdown perennial Selke-type player. behind a second-line centered by Kopitar. We could've saved all that newspaper print on the Canucks needing a 3rd/4th line center.

More like we could've won a cup with Kopitar...............

murd0c 03-06-2014 03:21 PM

Why beat a dead horse and talk about what could of happened? that shit drives me crazy....

DanHibiki 03-06-2014 03:27 PM

Cause the 'what ifs' are more exciting than this years Canucks and the past 3 years :lawl:

Mike Oxbig 03-06-2014 03:40 PM

- AV got out coach after game 2. AV was Julien's assistant back in the days.
- Luongo pumped TT tires; TT plays lights out
- Rome hit on Horton was the awakening of the Bruins
- Luongo's mentality after pumping TT's tires and the awakening of the Bruins being blown out
- Injured line up - Hamhuis, Raymond, Sammuelsson,
- Canucks knew they werent gonna win before puck drop during game 7, you can see on their faces (Gave up?)

m3thods 03-06-2014 03:52 PM

Isn't the "what if" game played whenever we discuss anything that isn't happening in actual games? All 20 pages of trade deadline forum pages are just one big "what if".

Get over yourself if you think you're not participating in a bunch of "what-if" speculation when you talk Canucks.

Fuck, if anything, the Canucks' organizational motto going forward should just be:

"What if."

Mike Oxbig 03-06-2014 03:56 PM

What if we are planning to unload our aging stars to tank for McDavid next year. Will the NHL approve? The Canucks is one of the top revenue generating franchise in the league and we don't have a star/franchise player.

"what if."
