What are the chances of the Penguins wanting to trade for Kesler at the draft?

The Rangers were able to take away Crosby and Malkin's time and space to generate points partly because there's no good 2 way centre on the third line. It's easier to shut down the Pens offence when Jordan Staal is not there.

Who thinks Subban will stay with the Habs for next season? PK's contract is up:

Insider Trading: Where do contract talks stand with Subban?

Bob Mackenzie:

McKenzie: Negotiations are ongoing, there is no real hard news to report there other than we know Dion Phaneuf signed a long-term deal with the Maple Leafs worth $7 million a year. P.K. Subban's asking price will be somewhere from $8 million to $9 million a year. I am sure the Canadiens will not be thrilled about that and I suspect it's going to be tough sledding for some time to get this deal done.

These are all better player who make just as much if not less than Phaneuf

Doughty is 7M for 8 years
Chara is 6.9M for 7 years
Karlsson is 6.5M for 7 years
Pietrangelo is 6.5M for 7 years
Seabrook is 5.8M for 5 years
Keith is 5.5M for 13 years
McDonagh 4.7M for 6 years

I understand some of these were singed when the cap was less but a lot of them are still pretty recent and IMO I would rather have any of those players over Phaneuf, I don't think Phaneuf is worth 7 at all I wouldn't want to have Keith for another 13 years or Chara for another 7 but Phaneuf's agent must of put a gun to Dave Nonis and named his price

Expresso 05-14-2014 09:09 AM

^^^GREG NONIS

Pens are gonna wanna shore up their goaltending department as well. When Fleury springs a leak - Look out!

Tough when Crosby is one of Fleury's bigger supporters on the team.

Except they have young players making contributions to the old core. The Canucks are about 2-3 years behind them in that department.
