$230 million in debt reported for the Devils.

I get this on google, but the link is dead.

44 mins ago - NEWARK, N.J. - A person familiar with the negotiations says several groups are vying to buy the financially strapped New Jersey Devils, and a ...
It was replaced by this.
Quote:

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Thursday that the NHL has no plans to take over the New Jersey Devils.

Forbes.com reported earlier Thursday that the League was likely to take control of the Devils because of financial difficulties being experienced by the club, currently owned by Jeff Vanderbeek.

"The report is inaccurate," Daly said. "We continue to work with the Devils' organization on a framework that we believe will produce long-term stability for the franchise. That framework does not involve League intervention or management of the Club."

Tom Gulitti of The (Bergen) Record reported Thursday that a source said two groups are interested in buying the Devils and a deal could be closed within a matter of days. A second source told Gulitti that the deal might take longer, but the process of selling the team is "close to wrapping up."

Forbes reported that attorney Andrew Barroway was the lead of one group, but said in its report that group had backed out. However, The Record's report says that Barroway's group is still involved. A second group, headed by investment banker Josh Harris, has joined the bidding, according to Gulitti. Harris also owns the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, which he bought in 2011.
Maybe the Russians can buy the Devils. Kovalchuk can be captain.

I'd ice that lineup of old-timers against at least 20 of the 30 top lines in the NHL today. You know all these dudes, retired or not, still have a few years of top end play.

^ Funny how you mention childhood..

I was thinking today, it was a childhood dream of mine to take 10 penalty shots against an NHL goaltender.. back then I had all the confidence in the world and thought I would score no problem. My dad told me I was crazy, and he was right, I was 12. Took 10 years off hockey between the ages of 15-25 and have been playing the past 7 seasons. I wonder how many I would get in, if any, today.

Lu is clearly not the best in shootouts (although I was 9 rows right behind him when he stoned Crosby several years ago, EPIC) and I honestly think I'd get at least 1 in, maybe 2.. no offence to Lu, I think I'd get one in on any NHL goalie.

I just think it would be neat to see how much net he would take up as I skate down and look for a hole. Some goalies just seem to cover the entire net and I'm sure Lu would be even more intimidating than anyone I've ever played against... still, I'm fairly confident I'd get 1 or 2 in.. it would be awesome if I could somehow live out my childhood dream and take 10 against him. :considered:

/fantasy

Ronin 08-08-2013 03:23 PM

I could probably score one in a hundred shots.

In a way, its a game of chicken... and in a fucked up way, the goalie probably has noo idea what you are capable of, but you have all the clips on youtube to analyze the goalie.

not an unrealistic thought at all.

I've always wondered - with my 6-7 years of recreational hockey, if you gave me a regular shift in a NHL game, how would I fare? Would I look like a total idiot and never even touch the puck? :lol

Honestly sometimes we think these guys are overpaid bums but they are really gifted athletes (although still overpaid lol).
When you watch them up close in person you really learn to appreciate the athletism and skill they possess. Not only would you not even touch the puck but you should already consider yourself lucky that you can survive a shift without someone like Lucic sending you to the hospital in a stretcher haha ...

In a shootout situation, I also highly doubt you would be able to score ANY at all vs any NHL-caliber goalie (not to mention an All-World like Lu). Not to knock your hockey skills, but I'm willing to bet that your wrist-shot would probably look like a slow-motion floater to him.

Similarly in basketball, the "scrubs" in NBA like Kwame Brown and Andrea Bargnani would absolutely DEMOLISH every single person in Vancouver. In a game of 2 on 2, first to 5 points wins. Any of us would lose 100 out of 100 games guaranteed.

AzNightmare 08-09-2013 12:37 AM

I would enjoy imagining a fantasy like that, but if an established NHL (backup) goalie took you seriously on 10 penalty shots, you probably wouldn't score any.

To compare our recreational beer league skills vs. people that get paid to play well and train almost year round, there's no comparison.

punkwax 08-09-2013 05:41 AM

I agree, there is a better chance that I would go 0 for than put 1 in, let alone the possibility of 2.

Would still like to try though. :concentrate:

Tim Budong 08-09-2013 06:12 AM

Speaking of dangles..This man at 35, still dangles. and does it well

At 35 Hockey?s Quiet Superstar Still Dangles

its a longer than usual read, so here is a snippet

Quote:

The puck had rimmed around the boards behind the Flyers’ net and was headed directly to a Philadelphia player when it occurred to Detroit’s Johan Franzen, patrolling the right wing, that he should probably start backchecking. Then he spied Datsyuk along the far boards and decided to linger by the Flyers’ net for another second or two. Why not? Of all the lessons Franzen has learned playing on Datsyuk’s flank, the most important is, Expect anything. This time Franzen saw Datsyuk feint inside, jump to avoid a hit, knock the puck loose, corral it and whistle a cross-ice pass to him for a tap-in, game-tying goal. In the press box of Joe Louis Arena, Red Wings vice president Steve Yzerman turned to general manager Ken Holland and said, “In all my years in hockey, I’ve never seen a player do all the things that Pavel can do.” When asked where he got his skills from, Datsyuk responds that “There weren’t many pucks in Russia. I was poor and I had to protect mine.” The humblest man ever?
As for this one.. CTV vs CBC for NHL rights, yes CBC is negotiating with the NHL again for broadcast rights, outside of the money, CBC holds the upper hand....this article fact? or just an opinion

CTV and Bell Media Need to Commit More if they Want Hockey Night in Canada/Stanley Cup Rights

Nice article, though found it annoying they don't have the youtube clips associated with the plays they mention.

Has anybody seen that postcard picture of Chris Higgins with his extended family at a barbecue in New Hampshire state? -checking out the hot blonde in the bikini, on the left side of the picture. Higgins? He's in the middle of the picture.

He's got eye candy in his family. :)
