It's all about not getting any gasoline on the outside. If you do, you need to wipe it right away and do a good job of it. When the interior of the car gets warmer, the gasoline expands and all that pressure has to go somewhere. Bad seals and not tightening the vent cap leads to leaks. Always check the vent caps for cracks. On hot summer days, it's always a good idea to take them tanks out and let all that pressure out at a rest area or parking lot.

Oh, and don't forget them black garbage bags, gulolololololol................

Just a heads up for nexus folks,

Going South (US CUSTOMS) - Take Douglas crossing - Pac Highway only has 1 nexus lane

Going North (CBSA) - Take Pac Highway - Construction at Douglas Crossing only has 1 lane open at this time (Pac Highway has 2 lanes available). If SR543 is backed up from I-5, then keep going down I-5 until you hit exit 276/D street and head east until you hit the 4-way stop and head north.

HonestTea 03-25-2018 10:12 PM

Waited over 40 minutes at 12:30am last night. It's usually pretty quiet around that time. (Non-nexus)

Eff-1 03-26-2018 01:24 PM

I find the waits after midnight to be unexpectedly long. NEXUS lane is closed and there are max 1 or 2 booths open at the most.

racerman88 03-30-2018 08:36 AM

How is the border wait today? More specifically the nexus lane?

Once you get access to the nexus lane it is smooth sailing three lanes open for nexus

Did not know this until I applied for a Canadian Costco Mastercard. They accept it at all Costco's in the US, including the gas bar. I know the card does not waive the transaction fee, but the rewards percentage on gas offsets some of that. They implemented this a couple of months ago. I called Bellingham Costco just now to confirm.

Because you cannot pay with cash at the pumps, I was going to exchange CAD for USD at the casinos and get a cash card at Bellingham Costco.

Anyway, some options, while you wait five years for the Home Trust Visa card to come through, gulolol.

blkgsr 04-10-2018 01:25 PM

i thought they only took VISA at the costco in bellingham?

or is it because its a costco card? my wife has one so now we'll just use that...

Retrac 04-10-2018 02:57 PM

The Peace Arch Nexus lane back to Canada is reduced to one lane until May 18th. Was pretty backed up yesterday.

Acura604 04-10-2018 03:23 PM

Costco only takes Visa, but have made the Costco Mastercard an exception. No other Mastercard will be honoured. I mean, honored (US spelling).

That's shell reward policy, not the gas station itself.

Anyone know how a smart electronic (ie. Apple) watch's duty will be calculated at?

Using https://www.crossbordershopping.ca
If I use Jewellery -> Watch: it will be 12.6% tax + 5% Duty
If I use Electronics & Media -> Phone: it will be 12% tax only, no duty

Traum 04-13-2018 02:13 PM

In the overwhelming majority of time when I get taxed, the CBSA officers only tax me for PST + GST. Even on items that are supposed to have duty, they almost never apply it.

Mind you, this is not alcohol or tobacco related at all, since I never buy those above my allowed limit.

twitchyzero 04-13-2018 02:21 PM

more likely than not it will be considered an electronics
but be prepared if they see it as a watch

is this something new? when i first went down for gas a few months ago we tried the card and it didn't work.

Entered the NEXUS line over the weekend from the Blaine roundabout... that's where the line up started. Only got worse behind me so I consider myself somewhat lucky. 60 minute wait.

I have yet to receive my card. Only have the temporary card, which is just a piece of paper that cannot be used in a credit card reader at the pumps.

Nexus lane was again backed up. People coming in from i5, get on the merge lane from Blaine, after few cars I had to block merge Lane, of course it was a woman showing me her nexus car, had to yell at her to explain. People way back did the same.

Only 1 nexus lane open. 20min wait

LP700-4 04-14-2018 07:18 PM

People with nexus can still use the regular lanes right?

Yesterday both going to and coming back from blaine the regular lane was less wait than nexus...

Luckily Pac Highway still only had like 3-4 cars wait for nexus

Yes you can, I've crossed countless times in the regular line with nexus while other family members only have passports

ray666 04-14-2018 10:22 PM

If you have nexus, head over to Pacific Crossing. Peach arch is doing construction. There's was only one nexus lane opened today. The bullshit thing it there's actually a sign telling people to head of to Pacific Crossing, but this sign is placed literally 20 feet from the actual booth. Doesn't do anyone any good at that point.

twitchyzero 04-15-2018 12:22 AM

probably common knowledge but you cant just have non-nexus members exit the car, walk across, then re-board the vehicle all the while you use nexus lane (which is dumb because what difference does it make in the end?)

apparently they made this very clear when you obtain your card *shrugs* but CBSA threatened to revoke my card because of it

USA border told me they allow this but cbsa doesn't. How can they differ on something like this, beats me. Guess cbsa is more paranoid of people walking in from the pre gun days.
