Is there anywhere on the Canadian side of the crossings to Blaine that you can park a car for the day? Heading down at ~11, coming back at ~7. I don't mind paying a bit if needed I just want to make sure it's still there when I come back lol.

The only thing I can think of is getting to the last turn around point (right before dutyfree)... do that and you'd see the "visitor center" on the right. There's parking there and I don't think I ever saw any limit posted since I believe it also serves as a small rest area for regular cars and even has plugs for EV.

Looking on maps I'm not finding a lot, the Surrey South Walmart seems like the most definite option. If I had to leave my car there overnight are the odds good that it'll still be there in the morning or no?

punkwax 09-10-2019 03:43 PM

Probably not bad odds at Walmart.. I’ve left my car overnight after having a few too many at Cactus Club without any issue FWIW.. same w Town Hall nearby. Stock accord though.

MG1 09-10-2019 03:46 PM

Costco Bellingham has self serve cash area now. I tried it and it was easy peasy.........

If you already applied for renewal, you can still use your existing nexus card pass its expiry date. I think it's 60 or 90 days.
I applied mine when the government was shut down, still arrived on time before the existing expired.
No need to call them and press on them, unless you want to be denied for your renewal lol

twitchyzero 09-23-2019 11:42 PM

except they took away the expired nexus
regular lines on weekends when i get a day off :heckno:

Same thing happened to me. US customs officer took my expired Nexus card and said I can't use it even though I told them I can. This was a month after it expired.

I didn't bring a passport with me so it felt weird going back to Canada where I showed them my driver's license and told them my story. CBSA officer laughed and let me go on my way back home. Lame.

You've probably found your answer but for anyone else that is wondering, you can probably park in the residential neighbourhood at Pacific Crossing on 2 Ave. Would probably be about a 10 min walk to the border.

underscore 09-24-2019 09:49 AM

I ended up just sticking it in the parking lot right where Hwy 15 and Hwy 10 meet since it added minimal time both ways we were going. No issues but it was only there for maybe 6 hours.

Nvasion 09-24-2019 10:49 AM

My nexus expired before I renewed it so now I applied again and it's been over 2 months under review...

Wow, my Nexus renewal took about 4.5 months to get approval. My wife's was approved in about 1.5 months, even though I submitted my application online before we did hers. :alone:

I used my Nexus three times after it expired. Once at PT Bob, once at the airport and once driving down for a track day at the Ridge. Fortunately, I wasn't hassled at any time; I did bring my passport just in case though. I was so happy and relieved to receive my renewal card in the mail yesterday!

twitchyzero 09-24-2019 08:52 PM

4.5 months?! :fulloffuck:

things are so arbitrary, applications dont seem to be processed in chronological order...and my initial screening + interview took faster than this renewal

Speed2K 09-25-2019 12:41 PM

Yes, very arbitrary! I was actually getting quite worried. :fuckthatshit:

tiger_handheld 09-25-2019 05:02 PM

how long until you receive a conditional approval for nexus?

applied for the mrs.

I finally received an email saying there was an update to my application after almost 4 mos. Card was received a couple of weeks later. Buy ymmv though as my wife got her update after only one month. Lol

I just renewed my wife's 2 weeks ago, no change in status yet but I'm not expecting anything that quick anyway. However, I renewed mine 2 days ago for the fuck of it even though it isn't expiring until Nov 2020 and tonight I already got an email indicating it has been approved and the new one is coming in the mail.

MG1 11-24-2019 03:52 AM

Crap, forgot I applied for a Nexus for the first time. It's only been two months. Thanks for reminder, lol. I'll check the status.

Update: still pending............. it's actually been three months.

I use my Enhanced Drivers License going south, so not a big deal. Funny thing is, the last few times I've been going back into Canada, the Nexus lineups have been longer than the regular ones.

SSM_DC5 11-24-2019 07:17 AM

Nexus lines move much faster, so longer line may not matter. Also nexus can be used in any line, so if regular lines are empty then nexus users should just use the regular line instead.

MG1 11-24-2019 07:29 AM

I make note of the cars in the lineup and they don't make it to the booth before me. Not by a long shot. I have no idea why people don't move over to the regular lanes in those situations. At some crossings, you have little choice because of barricades, but make use of the WSDOT app. I use it all the time. It's pretty accurate. Only issue is when cell coverage is not that great, lol.

Heading south at Peace Arch, I hop over to the regular lanes whenever the Nexus/Ready Lane is slow. It's totally doable as there are no barricades after a certain point.

lowda9 11-24-2019 01:12 PM

I havent gone over the border in awhile because the last 2 times, they searched my car going into the US and then again coming back. It was such a hassle and also humiliated. This weekend, I went to pick up a parcel at blaine and I was pleasantly surprised. I went through with ease both ways. I hope it was like that all the time.

that's crazy! The renewals seem so random.

I've done this once and CBP asked why I'm not in the nexus lane. Didn't seem pleased. Guess he was having a bad day...

twitchyzero 01-08-2020 06:53 PM

fyi pre-clearance is soon going ahead for vehicular crossings not just air and rail

CBP agents will then have the power to detain you way back on Canadian soil and you can't refuse even if you decide to turn around
