Yes. Borders remain open at this time. Assuming you are CDN/US citizen or CDN PR. If you or any of your group is a visitor on visa, they would technically not be allowed to come back into Canada unless they are immediate family of CDN citizen (google that in case you aren't sure what qualifies as immediate family)

So has anyone crossed to Blaine and back since the Pm made the anouncement Monday? Any issues getting to Blaine and back into Canada? I have a package that arrived at my PO box to pick up.

MG1 03-17-2020 06:12 PM

I'm wAndering if places like 24/7 Parcel would waive the overdue/storage charges and fees. That business has a parcel forwarding service. I might have to look into that when a pack my son ordered arrives in a few weeks.

EDIT: Actually, before I sent the above................. answered my own question.

24/7 PARCEL - Ship it here - $3/parcel & 24/7 Pickup & No Annual Fee

Indy 03-18-2020 08:51 AM

I emailed 5dpackages in blaine earlier this week before the original travel ban about any fees or if they were still keeping to their 30 days pick up requirement and they told me that there would not be any additional fees and that they would extend the pickup period indefinitely.

Buddy rode his motorcycle to Blaine Yesterday to pickup a package. Should be all good.

Expresso 03-18-2020 09:34 AM

^A lot has changed in 24 hours.

As of 5 hours ago March 18 6 AM PST / 9 AM EST

The U.S.-Canada is the world's longest border between two countries. ... “Travelers will no longer be permitted to cross the border for recreation and tourism. In both our countries, we're encouraging people to stay home,” Trudeau said.

Amuse 03-18-2020 02:05 PM

Ship parcels to Canada now. Shipping is not that much more expensive for smaller boxed items.

Manic! 03-18-2020 02:20 PM

danned 03-18-2020 09:29 PM

Fuck sake, why can’t Hagens offer that.

6793026 03-19-2020 09:54 PM

^ i gave up on Hagens years agooooo

1) yearly fee... 2) higher price to pick up 3) specific operational times..... fuck it.. i left them.

Shades 03-19-2020 10:57 PM

Can someone please confirm if the border is closed? I read that it will close Friday night or Saturday morning. Should I risk going to pick up a package?

twitchyzero 03-19-2020 11:52 PM

even if it's in effect after you cross into USA, you are able to return but you have to self-isolate for 14 days

doesnt seem worth it

68style 03-20-2020 12:14 AM

I have 2 packages at P2P in Point Roberts and called them Thursday afternoon, buddy said people had been coming down all day to pick stuff up.

It will close like everything else midnight Friday I guess, but given that it’s land locked to Canada not so sure I’d feel the need to self isolate from going down there. That said, I am basically self isolated nowadays anyway so... blah

Blaine is a different story completely, well warranted.

Shades 03-20-2020 12:43 AM

So right now before the new rules are in effect, I don't have to self isolate when I come back from Blaine?

68style 03-20-2020 01:10 AM

^
Incorrect, you are supposed to.

When the new rules come into effect you won’t be able to cross at all.

I go to p2p. I feel it’s no different than tswassen. My trips are a *total* of 8 minutes including interaction with 1 civilian and 2 border security. I would not self isolate.

Blaine I 100% would

blkgsr 03-20-2020 06:00 AM

The problem there is anyone from Belligham or elsewhere can work there... and they could easily be carrying/infected.

Legit no different then going anywhere here.

blkgsr 03-20-2020 11:04 AM

put a mask on and sanitize your hands.....you go into the grocery store here and the person could have it too.

you wearing a mask when you go get groceries now?

just because it's "over the boarder" doesn't make it 1000 times more dangerous

twitchyzero 03-20-2020 01:08 PM

WA pop'n 7.5M
case load is 1400 and test kits are severely backlogged

BC pop'n 5M
case load 300, not great testing but better

the closest trauma centre south of the border is seeing steady amounts of covid symptoms

if your parcel isn't essential (ie. medical equipment) let it sit you wont get dinged by the receiver

if youre really impatient go fetch it in blaine/bellingham and isolate yourself for a fortnight

68style 03-20-2020 03:04 PM

I went to Point Roberts this morning, US border guard seemed to be evaluating how “essential” my travel was and was talking like I was in the middle of Seattle or something, but ultimately let me through... place was a ghost town.

Grabbed my packages and left, Canada Customs just asked where I’d been recently and if I felt sick. He said self quarantine would be considered elective given the nature of Point Roberts not being land locked to the USA and seemed much more common sense than the USA border guard.

Driving away it was closer to lunchtime and I saw a pretty big steam of cars headed toward the border crossing.

Goodbye for now USA, I’ll miss your Scoops Doritos.

FWIW P2P was telling another customer they don’t intend to waive their pickup period *yet* but were suggesting he do freight forwarding to avoid late charges. Me thinks they’ll get a lot of complaints if that’s going to be their approach...
