They definitely told you specifically that is not allowed, you did it anyway. I'm not really sure are you complaining now that they threatened to revoke your nexus? Is this a psa that for anyone with a nexus who didn't pay attention to any of the written or verbal instructions given?

twitchyzero 04-15-2018 10:15 AM

nope in the brief 2-3 min interview they never brought it up

I suppose there was a document when I received it in the mail, may be that info was buried in there and it can be 5 years since I've read that

so yeah, can I not help others prevent themselves from being in that situation in case they're unaware/forgot, too?

and of course instead of a reminder they barked at me like i'm on the most wanted list with 50 cal and Mexican workers in my vehicle

the US does NOT allow this at all...atleast they didn't when i first got my card 5+ years ago

my wife and i were going down with a friend and she hopped out and walked in, they asked her how she was getting down, she told them, and they yelled at her that they would take our cards

smoothie. 04-16-2018 09:01 AM

yeah, that walking passengers thing is a big no-no

something you should not forget

Expresso 04-16-2018 10:29 AM

Common knowledge...

twitchyzero 04-16-2018 11:40 AM

yet not even every customs officer seems to be on the same page about this policy for sucha big no-no

murd0c 04-16-2018 01:15 PM

how is the walking passenger's thing a no no? It's 100% legal and a way around it. I could ask the GF since she is a CBSA officer but at the airport and land borders are of course different so she prob wouldn't know.

They don't like loop holes? i got my nexus like 10 years ago and it was one of the first things told to me

twitchyzero 04-16-2018 02:18 PM

trying to understand how it's a loophole
afaik pedestrian crossing is subject to the same screening as the non-nexus queue
the only argument is it's a little unfair to non-nexus holders

if they want to yell at me for entering foreign country, fine ignorance of the rules is not an excuse
but I was just a law-abiding citizen trying to return to Canada without any malicious intent

saveth 04-16-2018 02:50 PM

According to the border guard I talked to heading northbound at peace arch on sunday. Construction is scheduled to finish at the end of May.

they want you to pay up(also get pre-checked) and not have a line of 100 people walking through because that's what would happen if they gave the go-ahead: one guy with nexus driving all his buddies.

v_tec 04-19-2018 12:01 PM

paging @MG1 !

I rememeber the $20 birthday free play from Tulalip . Few years ago I could just take that voucher to the slot machine, and cash back out right away. Does that still work? Cause the BC casinos stopped doing that many years ago, you can't cash out promotional credits.

Any of the other small casinos offer anything for birthdays?

MG1 04-19-2018 12:41 PM

Free buffet at Silver Reef on the month of your birthday. Most, if not all, casinos do not let you cash out promotional freebies. Well, Northwoods does, but it’s like five bucks during seniors day. Not worth even driving out that far for that kind of money.

Coren 04-19-2018 08:35 PM

Just go to a roulette machine and 50/50 red/black. sure you can hit the 0/00 and get nothing, but chances are you will get the money majority of the time

how's that any different than through Amtrak? or through coach/tour service?

non-nexus individual walking through would still declare goods...I don't recall going through on a bus having to ask the driver to pop open the cargo compartment, dig for my stuff then present receipts

Gh0stRider 04-27-2018 12:44 PM

FYI, D street Shellnwas closed when I went down this afternoon. Ended up going to H street.

RCMP was also running radar on 8th Ave prior to roundabout to Hwy99

Expresso 04-27-2018 01:08 PM

^I had major issues with their pump's yesterday at D.

Super slow and multiple tries with my payment card.

blkgsr 04-28-2018 09:24 AM

heading down tomorrow to pick up packages and get gas

truck crossing/nexus all good?

I noticed RCMP running radar just before duty free if your heading southbound on 99. Good way to get excessive speeding ticket since it goes from 100 -> 60 -> 30

My parents just got back from Bellingham. The CBSA officer said that in the future, if you bring back more than 2 jerry cans, you will be brought inside and get taxed on.

From the way my parents said it, it seems like a new policy that will come into effect, maybe to try to deter Canadians from bringing back too much gas?

Don't know if true or not.

Still seems like a good deal to bring back 4-6 jerry cans all at once and get taxed on rather than making more frequent trips with 2 jerry cans unless you live super close to the border + has nexus + has a lot of free time

If you bring back or purchase anything in less than a days trip, it is subject to tax, even if it was just one jerry can of gas.

It's only up to the discretion of the CBSA if they wanna tax you on 20 bucks of good or let you go on 110 bucks.

I've been consistently bringing down 4x 20L cans and buying groceries from Trader Joe's and haven't been taxed yet, and that's a bonus. If I do get taxed, that is fare game and I'll accept that.

blkgsr 06-03-2018 07:48 PM

what is the tax on fuel? how is it calculated?

so some of us can make some educated guesses on what it will be based on how much we're bringing back.

The one time I got taxed was 12%

blkgsr 06-04-2018 06:43 AM

based on the canadian value of the gas?

so X liters times the canadian price, or do you keep your receipt and they charge it based on that?

winson604 06-04-2018 07:05 AM

Got taxed for only the 2nd time in my entire life this past weekend at Peach Arch. Was gone for 36 hours with the wife and kid and spent approx $1000 CDN. Taxed $90 but those are pretty good odds in my books considering I've almost always gone over whatever the limit is so it isn't a big deal.
