south bound at truck i've never see the nexus slower than regular lanes (head down weekend mornings)

but coming back up, normally the regular lanes are faster/less busy than the nexus lane

i usually stay in the nexus lane for the "perks" of nexus. are you generally treated the same way in the regular lane when you use your nexus cards?

donk. 01-10-2020 08:03 PM

No, they're assholes and they grill you on why you used the regular lane LOL. Way more questions, even tho I'm pre-approved. What a pain in the ass.

went across today around 1pm...DEAD quiet was awesome

first time going down solo, normally my wife is with me

going down, couple questions no big deal

come up, declared everything and the guy was a bit of a douche. was bringing back $150 in parts. asked for invoice, show it. asked how much the water pump was, told him it was part of the timing belt kit, asks what it was all for. sure my description might now sound like it but it was the first time in many many crossing i've even been remotely questioned like that. maybe it was because they we slow

Just went to get gas and pick up some packages in Blaine.

I was wondering why the Nexus line up was taking so long today, found out it's because they're asking China travel-related questions.

Was asked the following questions:

1. Have you ever traveled
2. When was the last time you traveled
3. Where did you travel
4. Did you recently travel to China
5. Have you been in contact with anyone who has recently traveled to China

The car in front of me (WA plates, Asian passengers) was being asked a TON of questions, around 5 mins worth. Eventually the officer gave the driver a red piece of paper and they were asked to go inside. The car in the lane to my right, also Asian passengers, BC plates, were being asked a bunch of questions as well.

Being Asian myself, I do appreciate them asking these questions, better safe than sorry. I really hope people aren't throwing the race card around again and saying they're being inappropriately profiled.

Seriously, I find it funny, I got out of town guest and they weren't wearing masks at dim sum places, no masks at Tim hortons, no masks, but the moment they plan to go to Asian supermarket... WOAH WOAH ... let's make sure we put our masks on...wtf.

Then the aunties... says... if they ask... I'm going to lie.. I JUMPED right in.... "Do you think they aren't able to pull up any of your track records?????"
I have someone who's in ShenZhen for 4 days 3 nights for massage with her bf, never left the massage place, and decided to go to HK and take a cruise to Japan.

They pulled up the entire time stamp list and even ensured the ban (14day prior into China) were implemented prior to their flights into going in Taiwan. They are currently at taiwan hotel quarantine for 24 hours before they can board a flight to YVR.

Went south of the border yesterday. Crossed at the Sumas border crossing at around 1:00 pm. Nobody in the Nexus/Ready Lane and about 5 cars in each of the two regular lanes. Went to Northwood Casino for "at par" promo (Mondays in March 60 CAD for 60 USD). Seemed like a normal amount of people there. From there I went to Trader Joe's. Not as many people as there normally is at this time of day on a weekday. When I got to Costco, I was a little surprised. There was no line up for gas and there was plenty of parking spaces outside the warehouse. Didn't need to drive around looking for a spot. Inside, I would say half the amount of people. It was pretty dead. On the way back, I crossed at Peace Arch. 8:00 pm. No line up whatsoever. I had a choice of three completely open lanes. I purposely went into the lane with a car waiting so I could madly add up my receipts. I looked over to the southbound traffic prior to arriving at the Canadian side and there was none. Wow!

Not sure if it was because the time of day I crossed or COVID-19 scare.

syee 03-10-2020 06:37 AM

Probably a bit COVID-19 paranoia and a bit of it is crappy FX. I went down on Saturday. <5 minute wait in both directions which is unheard of on a weekend, which is easily an hour wait normally.

Didn't know about this Northwoods Monday promo. Don't see anything online about it. Is it members only?

Yeah, you have to sign up and get a players card. They do expect you to play. I play anyway, so it’s a no brainer. I then go shopping in Bellingham. After that, I go to Silver Reef for Seniors Day. $5.00 free play, $5.00 food voucher and 5x points. I must be the only Canadian at the Costco gas bar not filling up jerry cans. I drive the electric car most of the time, so a tank of gas is more than enough to last me a week or two.

The Northwood promo is every Monday for the month of March. They used to do 100 for 100. In the summer, they might bring that back.

how much do you have to play in order to be able to cash out?

MG1 03-10-2020 07:55 PM

Not much, I don't think......... 5 bucks? They keep track via the card.

I've been going to that casino for a long ass time. There was a time I took advantage of the "at par" promos without playing for a couple of times and they refused to give me the offer, lol.

They also used to give vouchers, but switched over to giving out plain cash. I guess everybody complained at one point? I stopped eating at the Northwood. Food poisoning. Not just me, but it was a common thing there.

My go to casino is still the Silver Reef. I go to Skagit once in a while. Angel of the Winds used to be my all time favourite, but I end up losing so much there. Tulalip, meh. There's a casino somewhere in Washington that has a giant eagle out front. It's a nice casino, but a bit out of the way. Yeah, I'm a casino slut. Slots.

Went down today to return something. It’s a ghost town. Not a single car at the Peace Arch crossing. Had maybe 3 cars at the various NEXUS booths.

lilaznviper 03-14-2020 06:07 PM

went to blaine last weekend to pickup a shipment around 4. was a wait getting back into canada

syee 03-14-2020 06:27 PM

Came back an hour ago. Maybe 10 cars lined up going down. Nobody coming back. Border agent told me to limit my travel over the border. Probably won’t be going down until the dust settles on COVID-19

MG1 03-14-2020 09:33 PM

I've decided not to go on my weekly trip to Bellingham and the laundromats. I'm gonna miss my TJ freeze-dried strawberries, cheap but good american cheese, organic tofu from Costco, etc. but I have too much to live for............ like witnessing the Canucks make it into the playoffs......... never mind the Stanley Cup - that's pushing it.

Amuse 03-14-2020 11:42 PM

I went last Thursday to pick up my parcel and quickly went back to Canada. I even passed on filling up gas in my car in the States since I will spend more time there and gas is so cheap in Canada now.

Kilinim 03-15-2020 11:06 AM

Question, are all of you who've crossed for quick trips quarantining for 2 weeks?

320icar 03-15-2020 11:26 AM

Is point Roberts still open? Got a package to pick up

twitchyzero 03-15-2020 11:29 AM

my work allows me to technically be exempt from the travel advisory but there's still a small risk of being stuck there should they decide to close the border

cbsa or us cbp said that?

cdizzle_996 03-15-2020 03:26 PM

I went across this morning (Sumas) for gas and a package. Not one thing was mentioned on the way down, on the way back the CBSA office said “now I have to tell you this, but the Canadian government is recommending you self isolate for 14 days”. Then went onto say, Sumas is no different then Abbotsford except there’s an imaginary line between the two... lol

Shades 03-17-2020 12:22 AM

Can we still cross the border?
