Has anyone noticed since Trump left office that suddenly some sites / eBay sellers are no longer charging tax anymore on purchases? I was expecting a 8.6% hit on something I just bought becuause I was sending it to WA state and nothing........ same with a couple smaller eBay purchases...

I know that whole thing came in during Trump's reign of terror (and so quietly!) but... weird... wondering if it had changed now.

Interested to see how this weekend looks. Planning on going down on Saturday to pick up some stuff. Hopefully it's not too busy.

I also went on the Remembrance Day weekend, and did the free test at Walgreens as I was staying several days. Pharmacist there didn't care we were from BC so worth a try if you're staying multiple days. Surprisingly the US border agent didn't ask for my vaccination status - they were more interested in whether we had any commercial goods and how much money we were carrying. Coming back, we had everything in ArriveCAN and crossing took literally 30 seconds. Definitely get your documentation filled in ArriveCAN before you cross to streamline things.

as noted early, it's annoying you have to enter EVERYTHING again in arriveCAN each time (photo, dates, etc.)

better than nothing but it should remember your profile from previous trip

Filled out the ArriveCan app before crossing to pick up the parcels. On the way back, I went through Nexus, and the CBSA asked the usual questions and didn't even mention the ArriveCan qr code. I wonder if he can see it when he swiped my Nexus at his terminal.

They see it, alright. If they didn't, they'd be asking all kinds of questions and detain you for swabbing every orifice they can find and probably make a few more for good measure.

Always carry that printed copy or digital qr code on your phone, in case there's a glitch.

You can now save your Nexus, passport, etc and your vaccination paperwork in ArriveCAN app so you don’t need to keep uploading. The other questions I feel they have to ask every time (as it relates to exposure and ability to quarantine which could potentially be different every time you cross)

mikemhg 12-04-2021 11:35 AM

It saves your profile.

If you scan your passport into the app, it automatically merges with your passport, so the CBSA agent didn't even need to look at my phone QR code, by scanning my passport he already knew my info from the app itself. Easy as pie.

We went down and grabbed some packages and then headed to Trader Joe's. The whole damn parking lot was BC plates :lol

After proceeding to fill out cart with snacks and bottles of wine, we headed over to Elizabeth Station (highly recommend this spot). It's brewhouse with a literal shitload of beers on tap, and obscure/rare beers to go. Ended up having some flights and grabbing this peanut butter/chocolate porter from a brewery down in San Diego that you can't find up here.

Headed over to Fairhaven and grabbed a joint from a dispensary, and proceeded to Jalapeno's -- little Mexican spot I love down there, been years since I've gone.

Ended up getting drunk as fuck off the Cadillac margaritas :lol

We were home by 10PM, maybe a 10 minute wait at the border.

They probably do. I was at YVR a few weeks ago and the person in front of me didn't download and fill out ArriveCAN and they gave her shit and pulled her aside (probably to get test done). When it was my turn to go up, I was let go within 30 seconds.

syee 12-04-2021 09:58 PM

Went down today to pick up a few packages. Nexus southbound took 15 minutes, with 2 Nexus lanes. Regular lanes backed up to the duty free. Pretty much a normal pre-pandemic weekend again.

Went to Costco, and it wasn't super crazy. I'd say a normal weekend crowd. Some BC plates. Went to Trader Joes and it was a gong show. Packed to the hilt and no parking in their tiny parking lot or anything on the street. Had to park a block away to find any parking. TJ's staff were out in full force restocking. Probably won't go back to the Bellingham TJ's for at least a few months until things die down.

Northbound at Douglas took extremely long. About 30 minutes to get through. I suspect it was from people who didn't use ArriveCAN. A large percentage of the cars were stopped at the booth for a good 5 minutes - presumably so the CBSA agent could give them crap. My stop took about 45 seconds with ArriveCAN filled out. The usual questions were asked. Would do again, but maybe after a few weeks when everyone has figured out they need ArriveCAN.

I’m at the Silver Grief Casino. It’s Seniors Day. Free play and food. I can’t believe it. The whole casino is now smoke free. I searched and searched for my favourite slot game , “sir Mixalot.” Maybe got banned or something. Driving down to Peace Arch was interesting. The stretch between White Rock exits and border was not plowed at all. It was a freaking mess. This was at 6:00 am. As for TJ. I was the only car with BC plates, lol. Butt, the shelves were like empty. 9 of the 12 things I wanted were nowhere to be seen, “god damn fucking canadians,” lol. Anyway………….

MG1 12-06-2021 02:33 PM

Crossing back signs along the freeway read 20 minutes Peace Arch and 5 minutes PAC Hwy. I was tempted to go PAC Hwy, but I chose Douglas Crossing on the ArriveCAN app. Btw, it was a 10 minute wait time at Peace Arch (Douglas Crossing) by the time I got there. Anyway, the 10 minutes was actually more like 25 to 30 minutes. Even Nexus was slow. I gather doh heads without ArriveCAN info filled out. I got stuck in the slowest of all the lanes. Well, the border guard was a very pretty lady. My concern for fellow travelers went out the window. I had a very pleasant conversation with the young lady. Turns out, it doesn’t matter which border crossing you use. That information is for statistics and doesn’t show up on their screens. Did I mention she was a looker? Very personable, too. If I were 30 years younger………….. nuff said. murd0c she your old gf? If so, you dog, you.

thats not up to the sellers, its ebay that controls the taxation

68style 12-06-2021 10:20 PM

I’m not only talking about eBay though. Private company websites were all doing it too and now they’re suddenly not again.

Yet another example of Trump making amurica great again........................ by leaving and not coming back. :lawl:

On a side note, McDonalds fountain drinks are still a dollar any size. Plus, most restaurants have the free style machines. Win! My Arch Card from pre pandemic still had over $50.00 on it, lol. Had to dust off the Home Trust Visa Card for other purchases while in Bellingham. Next phase........... testing the old digestive system by ordering toxic food from Sonic and Jack in her Box. Guaranteed diarrhea within 8 hrs. Nasty stuff that will cure all variants of Covid. I "shit" you not.

I had that issue. It happened on both iOS and Android. Try the web client. I had success there.

Gh0stRider 12-09-2021 08:57 PM

I went down last weekend for 2 days. Southbound was fine, nexus lane was longer than the regular lane. Peace Arch was 50 mins, Truck crossing was 10 according to the hwy sign. I went down to pick up packages, hit up Red Lobster, Cheesecake Factory and stayed overnight in Burlington. I set my Arrivecan the morning before leaving the hotel and didn't have any issues. I arrived at the border before my time, CBSA didn't ask for the barcode or anything. I think he had all the information on his computer.

I had that happen to me before going on trip number two. I sort of panicked a bit. It's just busy. I waited a bit and it through fine. I should have written down the error code. Anyway...............

Gh0stRider 12-10-2021 07:28 PM

Crossed again this afternoon, CBP agent asked if I was vaccinated but didn't want to see my proof :lol

FYI if you complete your ArriveCAN and decide not to use your selected crossing when returning (eg. selected Douglas but truck crossing shorter line) you don't have to update or redo your submission so long as the date is still current.

Verified with 2 officers last night.

TypeRNammer 12-11-2021 02:35 PM

How are the lines up for gas at Costco Bellingham?

And also trader Joe's?

blkgsr 12-13-2021 03:58 PM

i went down on friday afternoon and got a grumpy old fart of a woman coming back up.

going down was great but coming home she wanted proof of each purchase (ok fair enough but haven't been asked in YEARS) especially when there was stuff i bought over a year ago. luckly i was able to find it in my emails.

jing 12-13-2021 08:33 PM

Went down on Fri as well. No issues with the ArriveCan app nor at the border though coming back into Canada took longer than pre-Covid. Some cars spent several minutes at the booth while we basically were waved through even though we spent more than usual on a day trip. No lineups at TJ's or Costco.
