When I inevitably die from exhaustion some time this year, my only request is to have this thread's URL on my gravestone...

Lol, I wasn't paying attention, sorry!

How long did you have to wait for the ferry?

Update on the Miata, it's sleeping at home right now and I need to get it serviced to bring it up to my level of comfortable regarding mechanical reliability though it did fine on the way home. Thank you to Raid3n who was kind enough to come along to help inspect it and bring it home. The owner did a PPI which seemed pretty thorough and they listed some stuff which I agree needs to be done.

Needs:
Timing Belt/Water Pump/Accessory Belts - it looks like original belts all around so they are timed out most likely.
Fluids changed - Oil, coolant, transmission, clutch, power steering, differential needs changing as they are all likely the factory fill besides the oil.
Brakes - pads are low, rotors are rusty, fluids need changing. PPI states right rear caliper sticking a bit but I didn't see any dragging or excess heat.
Exhaust - there is an exhaust leak by the muffler, as the flange has rotted out a bit. Just needs a new muffler but lower priority as it's not that loud and still runs well.
Left Rear LCA - slightly rusty, would like someone to take a look at it and see what needs doing on it.
Sticky/heavy clutch pedal - it squeaks a bit and is quite heavy for a Miata. Not sure if it's because it was sitting for 3/4 of a year, or if something else needs doing.

Otherwise the car drives well, pulls strong, shifts well, rides and handles well, and is in overall good shape. The interior is mint, just slightly dirty, and no leaks in the top so far. Some minor cosmetic dings (rock chips, scrapes and scratches) consistent with its age. This was the proverbial unicorn - lady driven, low KM manual Miata.

Bro, his dying wish was the URL and you forgot it.

You had one job, man. One job.

c

I didn't have to wait, I had the 4pm reserved, so I was actually driving pass you when I saw the miata from far, and slowed right down and stared at you hard. Haha

Congrats on your NB2. Im hunting for another one, I sold mine last year and now regret it so much.

I think this is a pretty good deal? Reasonable km, nice color combo, 6MT, 1 owner, no accidents, stock. Seems to check all the boxes.

Short wheelbase. pently of power from it TT engine 300HP & 300TP

N55 for N54 money.

That's a very good buy if it checks out.

EDIT: i didn't even notice it was a slick top (thanks lowside). Sounds dumb but slicktop tax is real and will help this car hold value if you were going to keep it for awhile.

I'd like to own this car.

^ if its legit.

Thats a good deal.

1997 Miata is the last year of the NA, it has the 1.8L with torsen lsd

If the cond checks out... it will be a good buy

jing 09-01-2020 03:21 PM

Torsen's were optional

I paid $3500 for my 97 about 5 years ago and prices have gone up since everybody thinks their mass produced roadster is worth a million bucks.

Sunroof delete as well which is sweet. I liked my 128i a lot, but I can't get past the feels about the reliability in the x35i cars. My friends who have worked at BMW dealerships as techs just crap on these cars constantly (yes Kyle, I mean you...).

Same thing here. I specifically looked for an N52 motor car vs any turbo crap.

The only reason I'd ever get anything with an N54, would be to do a single turbo swap.

EDIT: That one looks to be an N55 though, better.

That's how you get good deals. If you want the DSLR pics and professional writeup then the car will no longer be a good deal.

jaaagman 09-01-2020 04:30 PM

Fair enough. The 97 Speedster is one of the more desirable NA's, since they're similar to the US M edition. Is anyone on RS looking into this one? If it checks out, thats one hell of a deal. There was another speedster on sale a while back with a blown clutch for cheap too ($4500 I think, but it was not drivable).

68style 09-01-2020 04:57 PM

Some things are off besides the shitty ad... those wheels are wrong... should be 6 spokes I think but you can kind of see the speedster script on the fender so who knows... I didn’t bother cuz it’s in Abby and I’m not looking for a NA Miata but looks prettt sketch.

Can’t quite tell if it’s a soft top or hard top either, looks like a soft top but if it’s a hard top it’s a no brainer

Not to shxt on what appears to be a pretty well sorted STI, but I recall the 2004 model year is the least desirable version of STI. There were a bunch of real technical reasons / limitations behind that.

But again, this one looks like it is well sorted.

Can’t believe GS8 didn’t lost this haha looks so mint! I wish I didn’t hate GM interiors from this era so much that’s a really nice commuter ride

underscore 09-02-2020 08:06 AM

I think the 04 has a bunch of 1 year only stuff that makes it more of a unicorn to get parts for. I know they're 5x100 and the 05+ is 5x114.3 for starters.
