Realistically, who do you guys want atm if a trade was to happen and who do you see going? I'm trying to rack my brain and really there isn't very many players out there that's worth trading for either because teams will ask for too much or we just don't have the trade pieces. I think Benning stands pat at the deadline unless there are decent deals to be had. Even then, they'd be pretty minor. Sure Matthias may have value but it can't be that much...maybe a 2nd rounder at most and/or a similar player on an expiring contract. |
No one really. Were not 1 or 2 trades away from being a top contender for the Cup, nor should we be trading away players like Matthias for a draft pick that has a 10-20% chance of ever making it to the NHL. If we can somehow upgrade by trading a package of players im all for that. |
I rather keep Matthias and try to re-sign him and dorsett! |
On 1040 yesterday, I think it was Lebrun, he doesn't think Benning will be busy on deadline day. Matthias is only if it's a hockey trade. He said Benning isn't shopping him but more likely teams are calling about him. Lebrun said with injuries, it's best to promote from within and give larger roles to younger players. I still remember Tony Gallagher complaining in that fucking voice of his saying with Edler and Bieksa out...there's no physicality anymore...in my head, I go what about Sbisa...last time I check, he hits quite often and broke Zucker's neck. I think trading Matthias would be stupid unless it's a really good offer. Guy was basically off the roster in the beginning of the season. He worked his ass off in practice, listened to the coaches and basically skates 100% everytime he's on the ice. Trading a guy like that sends a message to players that even if you work 100% on and off games, you will be traded... |
^exactly plus he pretty much the power forward we want kass to be...he is a stong skater and goes to the net hard. Wish they would use him on the pp instead of vey haha |
Gallagher has no idea how to hockey anymore...he maybe writes an article that makes sense a couple times a year these days. I agree though...it would be best to see Benning stand pat. Promoting from within is the best things this team can do right now. Quick question about Sbisa, seeing as he's an RFA who made $2.9M with a $2.175M cap hit...iirc he can't take a paycut of no more than 10% right? Or something like that? I don't see him getting a pay raise |
If I was sbisa I would just stand pat at what he is getting now because I cant see him getting a raise unless he starts putting up points... |
Isnt thats what the canucks are known for? Always trading younger players for a shot to make or go deep in the playoffs? In the past decade we're always in the same position as we are in right now... seed 8 7 or 6, trading young guys for a playoff push for what. Ticket revenue? |
looks like Kassian will be scratched against the rangers tomorrow...his leash is short as fuck...guy has one bad game boom is scratched in favour of mcmillin come now really! |
lol they were pretty much just waiting for him to fuck up so they could get a look at McMillan. It's fine, he'll get plenty of time to draw in on the road trip. He was pretty useless last game anyway. |
He made some great offensive passes last game, Dorsett streaking in comes to mind... Unfortunately he also made at least 5 passes to the other team including the turnover that turned into Vanek's breakaway. |
You're not going to become a better player in the press box and that's a fact. Sure they're trying to "teach him a lesson" but at the end of the day it's ruining confidence, and putting his mind else where. |
If he gets scratched Tom it's a fucking joke. |
Keep in mind it's not just about his performance/issues during games, its his work ethic and attitude during practices and off ice too that contribute to scratchings this year. |

Kassian gave up the puck twice last game and it was a bad giveaway but does this really deserve a scratch. I was all for teaching Kassian a lesson and lighting a fire under him but being honest here, he's played well the last few games. I'm going to have to disagree with Willie on this one, I don't think he deserves this scratch. |
If anyone should be scratched it should be Higgins. His play is absolutely horrible lately. 2015 - in 21 games he has 1 goal |
:lawl: |
I get the off ice and practice stuff but if it's such an issue suspend him for a chunk of time. The way it's being handled is a fucking joke. Personally I feel like some of the situations that have occurred this season show that willy is a true rookie when it comes to being an NHL head coach, feels like the fucking minors around here. |
Holy fuck at that meme LOL |
@ACsti Kass had more than 2 horrible giveaways. How many assists does Higgins have and how good is he on the PK? |
The funny thing is, I still think Kassian has major potential. I know for years people have been saying, "just one more year with Kassian and you'll see" but I honestly believe if we trade him we are going to lose big time. Bertuzzi didn't hit his prime until he was 25. Kassian is still young enough to grasp it. I mean he sometimes shows it in spurts and it's pretty impressive when he does play so well and other times he does look like a 4th line winger. I hope we don't trade Kassian. |

I like Higgins I really do but I just think it's unfair some players get treated one way and others get the hammer thrown on them |
Wasn't able to watch last game to see the turnovers but when we have younger players like Kenins and Horvat and players like Matthias and Dorsett out working you, it's tough to not stay in the line up if you don't provide anything as a bottom 6. Kassian a lot of times just stops skating and become insignificant on the ice. He needs to keep skating and be a presence there. |
Maybe we don't know that Higgins is playing with an injury that isn't quite bad enough to call it a season for surgery. Kind of like Kesler had a season or 2 ago. Theres lots of cases where you don't find out a player has been playing hurt until off season surgery There's a lot more to a hockey team than the 60 minutes on the ice shown on TV, or what little bit the media gets onto. And I thought they said they hired WD because hes so good with teaching the young guys, and that is the direction they are taking the team. |
