i thought you are using it for main email lol

let me know if it works for 2 bucks a month. i'll be happy to pay shaw 2 bucks a month for shaw open

TOPEC 09-01-2016 12:28 PM

Guys... There is no $2/month for shaw open access, again it possible for email but for shaw open it needs to be tied to an active home internet account

MG1 09-01-2016 04:03 PM

Well, looks like I get to keep my email address and Shaw Go WiFi after all.

I told them about talking to the Telus folks at the PNE and told them what they quoted me. "What are you people going to do to keep me as a loyal customer?"

To keep a long story short, I got Shaw 150, Gateway, a whole whack of channels, including Asian TV, two phone lines, with one year free Asian TV, and $10.00 of a month for one year. Two year contract. The total came out way less than what I pay now, even after the one year freebies run out. 8 times faster Internet with 1TB limit. Way more than I need, but my kids will be happy.

Thank you, Telus, for making me get a better deal with Shaw.

I love healthy competition.

Thanks, good people of RS, as well.

I get asked about shaw go and telus public wifi all the time. WHY OH WHY do people care so much for this useless service IMO my experience with both are they stop all data on my phone. yes it works in a sweet spot so like 25% of the time. I rather stay on LTE/3G cellular data *rant finished*

MG1 09-01-2016 07:28 PM

whatever floats your boat..............

we're all happy for you

god bless

also, it helps to have it when you're in a building where cell penetration is zero.

MG1 09-01-2016 07:35 PM

Just installed the modem. Speed test on wifi connection 174.42 download, but only 14.76 upload.

Not bad compared to previous 25 down and 1.6 up, LOL.

Hey, I was around when 300 baud was like a dream come true. Now that, my friends, was how we rolled back then. The dark ages........... slightly more advanced than smoke signals.

Hondaracer 09-01-2016 07:55 PM

which modem is it?

i find shaw go wifispots to work pretty well, typically connect seemlessly and although it might be a bit slower than LTE, it definitely performs better than 3G on my iphone 6

i've been forced to setup my shawGowifi now because in the last 2 months i've been going over 9 gigs of data... swear apps just push fucking data all day long to my phone, no way i'm using that much, i -never- stream videos. instagram shit only

MG1 09-01-2016 08:04 PM

It's a Hitron CGNM-2250. 4 port Ethernet with 2.4GHz/5GHz wireless.

I signed up for my shaw package a long time ago. Like 5 years ago, and haven't bothered to change it. But the price is gotten a bit ridiculous. Am I being ripped off, or is this considered a good deal, all things considered? I'm not on any contract.

Digital Classic 76.00
HD Plus 16.00
High-SpeedInternet 64.00
InternetBundle Discount -2.00
Total Current Monthly Services $154.00

My internet is capped at 15 mbps (150 GB per month) and while it's not the best, it's fast enough for my home usage. And I have pretty much every TV channel except HBO, so no worries there either. But I can't help but feeling like this is a bad deal, especially $64 for internet 15.

MG1 09-07-2016 12:46 AM

You can get a better deal. Just tell them a Telus representative came knocking on your door and gave you a way better deal. Shaw will do anything to keep you as a customer. I shit you not. Just quote what others in this thread are getting. I saved over 40 bucks/month and got way faster Internet. One year's worth of stuff for free on a two year contract. They were going to give me three months at first, but when I mentioned Telus was going to give me two hundred dollars switching incentive, that's when they started giving me more. Extended the freebies to one full year.

I'm all jelly with the Internet speed lilaznviper is getting, but too late. I signed up with Shaw. 174 download, but only 15 upload. :okay:

If you don't mind posting or sending a PM, what's your monthly total cost now? With and without the promotions?

MG1 09-07-2016 09:02 AM

Sure, when I get home later this afternoon.

just beware that ur digital classic contains a good mix of channels where if u try and add back all the channels in todays pricing u'll end up paying a lot more

Does Telus have any hotspot locations, like Shaw Go?

If so, do they have the same amount or more hotspots than Shaw Go?

They do, but not nearly as many as Shaw.

yup. i'm starting to realize that the only truly way I'll be able to save $$ (excluding any limited time promo offers) is to reduce the # of channels I have.

Also, doesn't require a telus account to access either and not really seamless.

Verdasco 09-09-2016 07:10 AM

was paying $75.00 for shaw 30 download 5 upload

called and complained saying they have a promo for new customers only, and wouldn't give me shaw 150 for $79.90. They put it on hold for 5 minutes and gave me two years for $79.90 for 150 download , 15 upload. Done.

Should have tried going through retentions team. (or what I did was sign up with Telus and they'll send them a cancellation notice and they'll call you a few days before your install date and try get you back)

They gave me the intro pricing ($49 for first year and $79 second year) and upgraded my receivers to the gateway PVR which they were going to charge me $100 install fee for when I asked about it previously)
