I don't think you actually need to review his words to know that he was a horrible racist, I think you can just watch the response from all the other racists (and homophobes, and other phobes) and know how important he was to them.

There is no statistical evidence or proof to support that airlines are hiring pilots based on DEI, literally none. Becoming a pilot isn't some kind of nepotistic career path, you either meet the requirements and have the hours, or you don't. Plain and simple. DEI is just another acronym and dog whistle people like Kirk and the Republicans have been harping on, next year it'll be something else.
It's ironic these fuckers cry about DEI and "merit" meanwhile Trump's entire cabinet is filled with nepo-babies and cronies who are sitting in positions with literally no background or qualifications to hold such position in the first place.

I think Trump's future death due to his indifference to life and the consequences of it are more worthy of celebration than Bin Laden's death (which was certainly worthy).

What this recent thread has taught me is that there are plenty of well meaning people who are simply prone to the dog whistling, and just buy into that version of reality for whatever reason. Those are the ones who get offended when people aren't sensitive to the guy's death. I don't think they are intentionally being assholes.
I wish we could make them see what's up though. Mike is doing a great at trying, at least.
And to the "how dare you compare him to Bin Laden" that is not the point man. Pick whatever other wicked person from history you want; people are going to use the most infamous names. This isn't just some random guy who has a difference of opinion. Most of us who have differences of opinion can probably get along fine.

Once sworn in as a Fed governor, Miran will immediately be one of 12 officials voting on interest rate decisions. Miran was nominated to fill the remaining time in former Fed Governor Adriana Kugler’s term, which was set to expire in January 2026. Miran has said he will not resign from his influential post at the White House while he serves on the Fed’s board, instead taking unpaid leave.
The Fed, by law and tradition, has remained independent and nonpartisan. Now for the first time in its 111-year history, a member of the Fed’s Board of Governors is also technically an employee of the president. During his Senate confirmation hearing, Miran said he was advised by an attorney that doing so is legal and that he plans to carry out his duties as a Fed governor independently.

I think yesterday or today, Sean, a school board member right here in Virginia had to resign because she said horrible things about Charlie Kirk and that he deserved to die. That’s horrific. It’s free speech, but you shouldn’t be employed anywhere if you’re gonna say that.
And employers, you, have to have an obligation to get rid of people. You need to look at people who are saying horrible things. And they shouldn’t be working with you. Businesses cannot discriminate. If you wanna go in and print posters with Charlie’s pictures on them for a vigil, you have to let them do that. We can prosecute you for that. I have Harmeet Dhillon right now in our civil rights unit looking at that immediately, that Office Depot had done that. We’re looking it up.
It is unclear if Bondi was talking about charges against Office Depot, the former employee, or both.

In the short term, 1 vote out of 12 is not going to make a difference. If I am understanding things correctly, the Fed needs to vote on important policy decisions, and 1 vote out of 12 is nowhere close to being enough to sway the outcome.
I think the global market is going to see and understand that too, so in the short term, there might only be some minor turbulance. And then their outlook will depend on how the Fed conducts itself with 1 pot stirrer out of 12.
IMO this is different from the SCOTUS bcos the SCOTUS already had a mix of progressive and conservative judges to begin with, and Trump had managed to appoint an additional 3 conservative judges to significantly tip the scale. That is not to say the Fed officials didn't come from different backgrounds and beliefs in economic policies. But as far as I can remember, the Fed has been acting very responsibily in a technocratic manner.
The obvious danger is how many more members Trump (via the currently useless Senate) will manage to appoint into the Fed. The more Trump is able to stack the Fed like he had with the SCOTUS, the more damaging it will be for the credibility of the Fed. But this also brings the outcome of next year's mid terms into question. If the Democrats are able to turn things around and regain control of the House & Senate, then the Fed's contamination can be (will be) stopped. Quote:

Brazil remains the leading global exporter of soybeans with an average 65% of its soybeans exported to China.
Did not know that.
In 2024, China bought roughly 20% of its soybeans from the U.S., down from 41% in 2016, the customs data shows. From January-July 2025, China imported 42.26 million tons from Brazil, while shipments from the U.S. totalled 16.57 million tons.
I have to admit, this must hurt. From 2024 drop steadily since 2016, now ... where are the soya bean going (from US), it has to go somewhere. The producers aren't just going to die and go bankrupt...

The producers aren't just going to die and go bankrupt... | The US and Brazil are the 2nd and 3rd biggest consumers of soybeans but far behind China (old data: https://www.nationmaster.com/nmx/ran...f-soybean-meal) so if China doesn't want it the farmers are fucked b/c they either have to sell it at a deep discount (and margins are very low) or they throw it out. There just isn't enough interest in soybeans outside of China to make up the difference.
If it isn't the consequences of their own actions...
BTW: Canada's canola oil farmers are facing a similar problem - they could be fucked if Canada doesn't play ball with China but at least they can say they didn't cause the problem.

There is a market as soy is a filler in a lot of processed foods. But not to the extent as China as we just aren't a big tofu and soy milk consumer. Soy milk is a major breakfast staple in many regions in China, cheap soy is a big deal. As most people in NA only know about the plain white tofu, but there's so much variation of soy products.

I thought soy beans are primarily used for animal feed, and that is the main reason for China to buy them. I seem to think they use a lot of it in hog feed.
If it doesn't get fed to pigs in China, then it seems like the next best option for US soy farmers would be to sell it to (US) feed producers to make hog feed? And then the cost of producing pork will get cheaper, and US consumers can get some cheaper pork?
