Benning throwing some major shade at Dahlen saying something about him thinking he just deserves to play in the NHL and how it’s common nowadays amongst young players to not want to earn it.

Trades first-year pro after 5 months because his agent asked for a trade.
Throws shade at prospect after giving into trade demand.

Look at successful organizations like Tampa Bay; do you think Steve Yzerman would trade Dahlen? Especially at the last minute of the trade deadline? No chance.

Benning sets the culture of this team and he basically just told every prospect that all they need to do to get out of a situation they don't like is to ask for a trade.

We retain his rights until he's 26/27; if he doesn't like it, he can sewer his own NHL career or do what the organization wants him to do.

Droiun

1.5 years after they made the trade request public (or about 2 years after the trade request was made privately, as per his agent and Sportsnet) and during the offseason. Drouin also improved CONSIDERABLY in those 1.5 years (from 10 points to 53 points) and returned a top prospect and a conditional 2nd round pick.

Does this sound like a guy who just caved when the player asked for a trade?
Quote:

“We acknowledge, via communication from his agent, Jonathan Drouin’s request to be traded. Moving forward, my sole intention is to act in the best interest of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey club. In the meantime, Jonathan has been assigned to our American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, and we expect him to report for practice with the rest of his teammates this Tuesday morning.”
He got sent to the AHL for 4 months and didn't come back up until the playoffs, put up 14 points in the playoffs and 53 points the following season. He put in the work to become a legit NHL player and only got his wish after that. Tampa Bay got a 19-year-old top 4 dman and a conditional 2nd in return.

John Weisbrod on the trade:

"Jonathan's representatives came to us a bit ago and asked for a move. Don was frustrated and a little impatient with the opportunity he was getting, and that happens quite a bit. We didn't accommodate that for the sake of accommodating that."

"But we did say if we found something we liked, we'd consider it. With San Jose, it was a chance to get a player we like that's two years younger, that might be on a better timeline for getting their chance when we're going to have the ability for them to get a chance."

"Obviously it's a frustrating time for him. We always talk about at the draft, one of the considerations you make is you gotta draft players that if they don't make it right away, they're gonna have staying power and resilience and endurance."

"I'm sure you've seen it, there are a lot of good players who could have been good NHLers but they didn't make it through their AHL time. They didn't persevere. And it's a challenge, it's a hard league, it's a much harder league than people realize."

"And Jonathan got into a position where he was not feeling great about things and maybe wasn't in the best state of mind, and we made the assessment that that was going to inhibit his ability to develop and make it through that grind."

"Hopefully it's a really good thing for him getting a new start. I think it was emotionally hard on him with Petey up here since they had the history together and had played together and that might have contributed to the sense of urgency he had."

I guess the plan of living in utica took a toll on mr. Dahlen. I think this move was best for both parties

Acurapinoy 02-25-2019 10:43 PM

Missed the game but

Read that Boeser got his 22nd goal at the 2:22 mark of the 2nd period and today is his 22nd birthday haha

And luke schenn played pretty good

68style 02-25-2019 11:01 PM

Boeser didn’t score

Nabatron 02-25-2019 11:16 PM

it was bo who scored twice my dude

jdmhaze 02-25-2019 11:47 PM

You can't really compare the Drouin situation with Dahlen. Yzerman burned a first round (3rd overall) draft pick on Drouin. Also, Drouin's value to the organization at the time of his trade request was substantially higher than Dahlen.

We're talking about Steve Yzerman though, the guy was an incredible GM. Look at Tampa's current roster, the vast majority drafted and developed within the organization.

Benning said he’d have kept Dahlen if he didn’t get a lateral return and in their minds they did. Can’t fault Benning on that if some entitled brat doesn’t wanna pay dues.

Hondaracer 02-26-2019 06:27 AM

Gotta think dahlen is the one that looks bad in this situation especially regarding the circumstances

Your buddy in Petey is ripping it up, he could essentially be your meal ticket in the NHL and you couldn’t work and wait for an opportunity? Him playing with petey May have been the best chance he had at making the NHL

The OT was ugly, just like their PP. No creativity, weak puck movement.
Look at the offside. They couldn't even get out of each other's way.

Shoot out, how many attempts at the 5 hole. It's like Varlomov was teasing them with the 5 hole and then cheats and shuts the door. Boeser's goal was nice.
