What do you guys think of the Markstrom situation? I was aghast at the panel in the second intermission saying he needs a 3 year extension immedaitely in addition to his last year of his contract next year.

Is it just me or is that the type of thinking that always gets the Canucks in trouble?! He had an amazeballs year... time to trade him or figure something else out while his value is highest. Demko cannot be the backup for 4 years... and there's a massive glut of experienced goalies on the market this off-season as free agents, make Demko the starter and get a veteran as the backup.

So sick of the Canucks hanging onto guys out of loyalty all the time and then getting nothing back for them.

Looks like we will be getting one of

Dach, Kirby - https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/268089/kirby-dach
Matthew Boldy - https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../matthew-boldy
Trevor Zegras - https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../trevor-zegras
Peyton Krebs - https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...8/peyton-krebs

unless we move up on the draft

I'm liking the size of some of these guys... 6'3" range and soft hands sounds good to me #nohomo

Hondaracer 04-03-2019 12:41 PM

Love the way markstrom has played this year and imo if he can continue this style he’s a legit number 1, the problem is Demko.

I think with either option we are likely better off than a lot of teams but the problem is holding onto two diminishing assets

punkwax 04-03-2019 12:59 PM

Demko isn’t ready yet and needs another year as a backup. Maybe he’ll get to a point where he can takeover next season but I wouldn’t hand him the reigns 9 games into his NHL career. If Marky plays well again next year teams will be interested and he shouldn’t be hard to move.

highfive 04-03-2019 01:58 PM

If the Canucks win the lottery, who would you prefer? Jack or Kakko?

Kakko with Petey and Boeser looks promising. Got some size and skill with Petey.

punkwax 04-03-2019 02:36 PM

He wouldn’t play with Brock they’re both RW.. and I refuse to answer the question because it ain’t gonna happen :okay:

please work reverse psychology!

That's garbage. Blow the whistle and reverse the call.

Damn that kid has talent :high:

punkwax 04-06-2019 01:28 PM

Demko looking really comfortable out there.

TjAlmeida 04-06-2019 02:11 PM

I would think with the amount of starts Demko has gotten these last 10 or so games that management is feeling out of demko is ready to be the starter next season.

I think they should move him this off season, would you consider Markstrom + 4th for Puljujarvi? Could be an overpayment or could be an underpayment in a couple years.

68style 04-06-2019 03:08 PM

Poolparty is a total bust, he’s almost a waiver wire pickup at this point not someone you trade a draft pick and a#1 goalie for

RiceIntegraRS 04-06-2019 03:53 PM

Why the rush to trade Markstrom? Especially when the injury prone Demko hasnt proven anything yet. If Demko is ready to become the starter, he has to prove it first. The Goaltender is the last position where there should be any uncertainty.

I..nnn

TjAlmeida 04-07-2019 01:44 PM

Markstrom has put up starter numbers for 1 season at 29 years old.. Puljujarvi is 20 years old and labeled a bust. #canuckslogic.

whitev70r 04-07-2019 03:36 PM

Coaching carousel begins. Openings in Buffalo, Florida, LA ... job for AV and Quennville? Willie is out in LA ... understandably, they didn't do much better with him as HC.

Thoughts on who will take the cup this season?

I kinda get what you’re saying but you can’t compare the timeline of a 4th overall forward vs a goalie drafted in the 2nd round..

Cmon if you can play with McDavid and not take advantage of that?

Heck even Jeff Cowan was able to get a contract extension from playing with the sedins.

Just because he’s 4th overall pick. Doesn’t mean he’s s guarantee top player.

Look at Michael dal colle.

It's Tampa Bay's year.

Although the Bolts look great on paper with their roster, they already won their trophy for this season. The President's Trophy. :troll:

I'm not counting out the defending champs. The Caps are my pick to repeat as champions. Ovie is gonna be hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup and be lit at every championship celebration party again.

punkwax 04-07-2019 08:54 PM

My money is on Tampa but I’m rooting for the Jets. They have a tough first round test vs the Blues but if they make it past them relatively unhurt I like their chances of pulling off an upset.

Really just want the Cup to come home to Canada.

I expect you to remove the fail from my post in another 2-3 years when he's still a bust LUL

Buddy got significant playing time with McDavid and couldn't even carry his jockstrap. You know when Poolparty does look great? Pre-season every year when every team is icing a lineup of non-NHL players and many non-AHL ones too.

I would think it’s very comparable to put Virtanen in the same category as Puljujarvi. Or another example would be Jeff Petry, Devon Dubnyk, dropping the ball on the guys name but defender that plays for Pittsburgh. All underperformers on the Oilers who have found their stride and game elsewhere. How can you seriously write off a 20 year old 4th overall pick who hasn’t found his stride on probably the team with the worst background of ruining young players.
