Granlund is 5/11 in his shootout career... not bad...when you miss a 5-hole attempt it always looks super lame

Bobrovsky ain’t been looking so hot without him either.... Clark is some kind of messiah

Ian Clark was a goaltending CONSULTANT in his first go around (2002-2010) with the Canucks, meaning he didn't work with the team on a regular basis (he was running a goaltending school, GDI Goaltending, as his full-time gig).

Gillis wanted a full-time goaltending coach and replaced Clark with Roland Melanson in 2010.

Clark would become Columbus' full-time goaltending coach a year later.

Last summer, during his contract negotiations, it was suggested Luongo stepped in and urged the Canucks to retain Clark. In August, Luongo said this to The Province:

"I’d rather work part-time with (Clark) than with someone else full-time."

Not long after, Clark signed a deal for $250,000 which is high-end money for a part-time goalie consultant.

Clark, because of family and business obligations in Dallas, has been, reportedly, unable to sign on with the team in a full-time capacity.

In spite of that, Luongo talked to him virtually every day through text message, email or phone call.

The pair even collaborated together with Luongo’s younger brother on a book, The 10 Quickest Ways to Improve your Game.

But even with their close relationship, forged in Florida and their four years together in Vancouver, Luongo must now prepare for something new after coming off his worst statistical year since he came to Vancouver.

The Canucks are using Clark’s part-time status, and its desire for a full-time coach, as the reason they made the move to Melanson, who, they pointed out, will need to spend lots of time this season working with rookie Cory Schneider.

It’s both true and valid. But it’s also simplistic spin. There is no indication the Canucks ever explored a full-time role for Clark.

Melanson did a helluva job either way...sad to see him go as well.

Canucks trade Gagner for Spooner.

Edmonton essentially trades Eberle for Gagner.

xxxrsxxx 02-16-2019 08:17 AM

VAN trades Sam Gagner to EDM for Ryan Spooner. Even up. No salary retained.

After burning the Gagner bridge twice, we end up with Spooner ...

Blah_Teggie 02-16-2019 12:12 PM

This might turn out to be a good trade for the Canucks. Spooner and Eriksson had a bit of chemistry back in the 15-16 season as members of the Bruins. Maybe this trade could ignite Loui a bit.

highfive 02-16-2019 12:42 PM

Does that mean virtanen is out longer?

snowball 02-16-2019 12:45 PM

I feel happy for Gagner, Canucks were dicking him around albeit for cap reasons but he shouldn't be in the AHL.

sexyaccord 02-16-2019 08:22 PM

I should really get some frames for my autographed jerseys. Have D. Sedin (x2), H. Sedin, Kesler, Burrows, Luongo, and Bieksa.
