Let me play devils advocate here.....
Imagine if the Chinese gov't is actually being honest, and truly wants China to lead the world technologically in the 21st century. Imagine if the Huawai attack is all a ploy by the US to protect their own technological advantage, even if what they're offering isn't as high tech or efficient as China's tech. Imagine that this wouldn't be the first time that the US gov't has held a company back in order to push their own agenda.

I mean, this is a country that has overthrown numerous gov'ts themselves in order to take over a region's natural resources. They wouldn't be above doing that to a corporation for technological resources either.

I think the problem that US has with Huawei is that they want to be able to keep some control over it.

Think it this way, Huawei, like Samsung, is a tech giant that taps into a gov't support to be able to run its business like that. The difference is that Samsung innovates, whereas Huawei only care about driving its competitions out of business.

If you have read how Huawei handles its business deals, they are undercutting their closest competitor by 30-40%. There isn't that much of a profit margin in the sector to sustain. By most estimates, Huawei runs its business either at loss or no-profit in the best case scenario. If it were a regular company, it had gone bankrupt a long time ago.

But when you basically have a blank checkbook from all major banks in China (which by the way are among the largest in the world) that would "lend" it whatever amount of money as it pleases with NO guarantee whatsoever, this is a problem for its competitors. How can you compete with a company with a virtually unlimited budget?

Furthermore, China has a long record of not willing to play by the rules, as we can see in ZTE and "alleged" Huawei case.

Huawei can guarantee all it wants that it's not a security threat, and it probably is now, but if we only come to deal with it when it's the ONLY remaining player (again, no regular company, private or public can compete with someone who doesn't care about money), you'd be in a position to either accept or suck up.

I think it's actually a good thing if US achieves its goals with China. We'd get another mature big market that can work with minimum gov't interference.

I remember when I saw Huawei gear for the first time, I think it was Telus DLS routers or something and thinking "what is this third rate Chinese garbage router?" Like all that other cheap knock off gear that's out there.

Chinese companies, in general, take technologies and make clones. They're very good at it. Cheaply made. One day they may break the mould and be like the Japanese and take it a step further by improving present day technologies. Post war Japan was an interesting time in history. North Americans used to make fun of anything 'Made in Japan'. It didn't take long before people started to realize that the products coming out of that country was much better than products designed and made domestically. Sony, so phoney all of a sudden became a distant memory. Some of the stuff coming out of China is amazing but still the items are designed and developed elsewhere. If China keeps stealing ideas and technology from others and end competition, the world will become a sad sad place. If China is to take off like Japan, they need to recruit innovators from around the world. China in ancient times was miles ahead of most of the world. What the heck happened? China needs to start innovating and even start something new for a change? They must have inventors.

^^ innovations cost a lot of money these days like billions and billions of dollars into R&D and even if you spend that much money doesn't mean what you innovate is going to be successful. So why not copy someone else innovations that you know for sure is successful. Make the same product with a cheaper cost?

innovations is not like the old times where it doesn't cost much.

Besides if you know how Chinese works you know most Chinese will not spend money in their R&D. There are no copyright law or anything like that in place so if you innovate and came up with something new it is fair game for everyone else to copy your idea. So why would you spend so much money in R&D then? Why not wait till someone else does it and you just copy that?

The problem with China is that they are too result oriented and not open-minded. If the result of a research topic can't make money? Cut. If a research topic is something the boss can't understand? Cut.

Many of our greatest discoveries were pure accidents while doing research for something else. And research is something that takes time, money and effort. It's like a puzzle. You do one piece at a time and hope that all the effort would lead somewhere, or at the very least, teach us where we shouldn't be going.

When you have a fixed mindset of expecting a meaningful result FOR SURE, the research cannot be done. Because it might take hundreds or thousands of failures before a success can be made... and that's being optimistic. Very often, even after you pour in billions of dollars into something, at the end, you simply realize all those money went for nothing.

China cannot take failure for an answer, because the way CCP works (and pretty much anything bureaucratical in China) is that failures are a sign of weakness, and no... CCP does not fail. It's always GREAT! Sadly, the first step to solve a problem is to actually admit that there is a problem.

So until China changes this structural disease that has so profoundly populated their culture, they can never innovate the way other societies do.

Its honestly a tactic to tie up our freaken system as long as possible. She has the money and lawyer team to do it. Sad eh?
