 John and John are back tonight!

Hondaracer 01-14-2021 02:48 PM

Thank god

SkinnyPupp 01-14-2021 03:09 PM

PBP wasn't bad at all yesterday. Dude just needs to work on anticipating when big plays will happen, so when they do, it sounds like a big play. Rather than just telling people what just happened.

There are much, much, much, MUCH worse PBP callers in all sports LUL

But I get it; if you're used to a certain voice, anything else is hard to accept. We all grew up enjoying Bob Cole, even when he was well, well past his prime. Replacing him with some rando you never heard before would have been awful, even when really, he was pretty awful too for a long time, just recognizable. I remember when he literally couldn't remember anyone's names, unless they were on the Leafs. And if he couldn't remember your name, you were going to be called whatever Leafs player's name is the closest sounding LUL

spoon.ek9 01-14-2021 03:31 PM

dude last night didn't even recognize that oilers had pulled the goalie. it was really bad lol.

SkinnyPupp 01-14-2021 03:39 PM

LOL good point there actually

bobbinka 01-14-2021 04:12 PM

I like John and John's chemistry. They banter, they joke, and make fun of each other sometimes, it's fun.

spoon.ek9 01-14-2021 05:02 PM

shorty's calls are actually entertaining to listen to. you could watch the game through his words and know exactly what's going on. that's how you know he's especially good.

68style 01-14-2021 05:06 PM

I had no idea John Garrett was using dye on all his hair these years hahaha he looks like Colonel Sanders!!!

Jesus Demko picking up right where he left off, insane saves off Kassian and McDavid

spoon.ek9 01-14-2021 05:14 PM

SkinnyPupp 01-14-2021 05:22 PM

Unless they score 5 again, the Canucks are going to give the game away with these shitty penalties

I liked Shorty all the way up until the "slayed the dragon" call. You slay the dragon when you win the cup, not when you beat your playoff rival FailFish

Other than that, he's great

Jmac 01-14-2021 05:30 PM

Is anyone else watching on Sportsnet Now? Sportsnet Pacific feed seems to have an audio delay (not during commercials) but not on Sportsnet 1 feed (which has Edmonton’s local crew).

spoon.ek9 01-14-2021 05:30 PM

"hughes makes a lot of plays with his stick" yeah, no doy

bobbinka 01-14-2021 05:34 PM

Shorty is doing it from Vancouver, so there's delay in the feed

Bro...it’s about context.

That was one of the greatest rivalries in the last 30 years in the NHL and the Canucks had a team to go deep every year they matched up. Even though it was round 1 that will go down as one of the top moments in the history of the franchise. To finally overcome your rival like that with the same core vs core year after year is what fairy tales are made of. And don’t forget, they were also up 3-0 in that series and blew the lead to get to the game 7 OT

Fan bases like the Canucks obviously have to cling on to victories like that when they haven’t won a cup, but don’t get it twisted, that was a monumental moment in the history of the franchise.

I get the context and it was an amazing win and rivalry. But save that call for the cup... Canucks have been there twice before, they've faced the dragon and came within a win before. When they win the cup, they've slayed the dragon. Blackhawks were just a challenge along the way. What if they did win the cup that year? Did they slay two dragons? Did they slay something more powerful than a dragon? LUL

To each their own though, I'm probably in the minority.

The delay is so annoying on SNP, I have to watch the game on SN1 Edmonton’s feed.

SkinnyPupp 01-14-2021 06:06 PM

Hondaracer 01-14-2021 06:21 PM

Wow what a fucking shot Mcdavid, Jesus

spoon.ek9 01-14-2021 06:22 PM

well, we knew they would make adjustments. pretty much impossible to shut them down two games in a row (mcdavid/draistl).
