I don’t expect good defense early in the season but I at least expect players to not just completely ignore McDavid.

Because it seems apparent you weren't attached to the rivalry.
For those that were, it was much much bigger than just a mere first round win.
I mean the way the Burrows and the Canucks celebrated themselves, you'd think they just won the cup. It sure wasn't just a mere first round win for them.

Sure, people want to win it all, but people also wanted to beat the "dragon" that prevented them from getting there 2x in a row, almost a 3rd time in a row. Without getting past this one nemesis, there would be no cup run in 2011, just like the previous 2 years.
