The Official 2020/2021 Canucks & NHL Thread

Lazy bum Loui packed it in well before this season.

I cannot believe Benning acquired this lazy meatball from Boston for his "offensive" skill.

Loui only scored 38 goals in this past four seasons with the Canucks. :lawl:

If he clears waivers then he is no longer counted towards our cap but he still gets the money? Why didn't we waive him last year, or the year before that? What took the management so long to finally waive him. He has been crap for a while now.

Since the 2013 CBA, you only get cap relief equal to the 2-way contract maximum (which was $0.925M at the time but is now $1.075M. The problem is that you generally need to recall a player in his place and that player will have a minimum cap hit of $0.700M, so the maximum possible cap savings is $0.375M.

spoon.ek9 01-11-2021 03:14 PM

I can't remember the exact number but last year, burying Loui in the minors was only like $1.1M in cap relief. This year with an abbreviated season, him (apparently) showing up out of shape, and the emergence of Hoglander being a viable option has made it imperative to push Loui out.

edit: jmac is always more well versed than I when it comes to cap numbers

Obsideon 01-11-2021 03:31 PM

Oh let me get this straight so technically even burying him in the minors we would still be paying his cap of $4.925M AND have to add another bum to the squad?

I wonder what happened to Perry, he was signed for league minimum to be a veteran presence for MTL and still got waived before playing a single game? Did he decline that much that he's not even worth less than a mill?

And he doesn't have to pay into escrow, so he actually makes substantially more money (although his salary this season is only a pro-rated $1M; he got a $3M signing bonus already, so it's not like he'd lose a ton to escrow either way).

Perry was never a good skater even when he was winning scoring titles. He's still a solid net-front presence, but he's more of a 4th line/PP2 guy these days. I don't follow Montreal but I'm guessing he couldn't keep up.

I believe ur technically right. I think the only reason why he even played last year was for Bo to carry his ass and show he isnt completely useless for a trade but obviously there was no takers. Maybe Jmac can chime in but also the Aquilinis would have to pay him more actual cash playing in the AHL rather than this NHL season. Something about how the NHL will withhold 20% of a players money cause of the pandemic to ensure the owners get there fair share, where as the AHL doesnt have that tax on players . So i wouldnt be surprised if Loui he was on the taxi squad.

I heard Montreals capologist screwed up and they over spent so i guess they have to shed salary

edit* Jmac already chimed in

He’s too dumb to play on that line

I can't be alone in thinking we should have let Jake walk and sign Toffoli with that money. I guess this is Jake's last chance to prove he belongs. I'll give him a fair shake this season to see what he's worth.

Hamonic 1 x $1.25M, full NMC

Apparently 17 of Dallas’s 27 players (roster, taxi) have COVID.

spoon.ek9 01-12-2021 03:55 PM

For now, it looks like Dallas' first 3 games are postponed.

Excited for Canucks hockey tonight - too bad Miller isn't playing, it screws up all the forward lines. Petey played all of last year with him so it will be interesting to see how he is with Virtanen :/

If the Canucks can take 2 wins out of this road trip to start the season, it should be considered a success.

Wtf, Loui not part of the taxi squad now. Mother fucker!

Liquid_o2 01-13-2021 11:16 AM

I didn't realize that I was looking at the roster and not forward lines for tonight. Beagle with Horvat and Petey? DansGame

That's pretty much what management has done ever since he's joined the league. At some point you need to realize he just doesn't have the hockey IQ or work ethic to become a good NHL player.

trust me, i have been very critical of jake for a very long time now. seeing the early success by boeser, then petey and then hughes only amplified how terrible his so called progress has been. i don't know what management sees in him but they keep giving him the benefit of the doubt.
