Is Halak not even an NHL level goalie anymore? |
Halak so good! .571 SV% in this game. Surely any of the Canucks farm team goalies are better and not at 1.5mil cap hit |
Quinn Hughes has been fuckin awful in this game |

We really had a shot at trading Halak before paying his bonus and getting something of value for him. B4 catching covid his 5on5 save% was near tops in the league IIRC. Ever since then hes been shitting the be and he has lost all value to the point where we would probably have to add something to get rid of him. |
Yup we are stuck with him barring an injury |
At least he's on his last year of his contract |
I read the Canucks wanted to deal Halak but he wasn't willing to waive his NMC. |
Halak's play as backup is going to have some impact on team's standings and possibly on GM Allvin's decision on whether to make a trade at the deadline. Demko plays a tonne of games. According to Iain McIntyre's article on SN, Demko plays the fourth most amount of minutes among NHL goalies now. The team has 27 games left. Demko cannot play in all of them. Halak has to contribute SOMETHING and play well in the games that Boudreau starts him as goalie if this team wants to rally to make the playoffs. If Halak continues to play awful, he can be a factor in the team losing some its remaining games to make them out of playoff contention. Maybe Allvin will trade Miller or Boeser by March 21st. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...into-playoffs/ |

Or did we really not have the cap space to keep Holtby as our back up goalie this season? |
JB was desperate for cap space... Holtby's contract was relatively buyout friendly... it was a $3.8M savings for this season to buy him out. One of only 2 on the team besides Virtanen's that even remotely were. Also Holtby was terrible. |

Halak is $1.5M this season. So that frees up $2.3M in cap space for this year. And with the bonus and buyout, Holtby and Halak is going to cost us $2.9M for next year and we'll still need a back up goalie assuming we let Halak walk. Oh I love JB, the gift that keeps on giving. |
Halak’s potential bonus of 1.5 includes having a save percentage over .905 which he does not have (currently .883)……. So save $250k that way? Haha Playing him, whether it’s his fault or not, is costing us the season tho… 2-6-2 in 12 starts is abysmal. |
Spencer Martin should really get a shot imo. It was only 3 games, but the numbers don't lie. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I heard the team can just healthy scratch Halak and dress Martin on a game to game basis if it came down to it. Whether it's directly Halak's fault or not, if the team doesn't have any confidence in the goalie, they can't play well. |
Spencer Martin has also been playing lights out in Abby. .915% save percentage. I wonder if someone would take Halak in a trade now that his bonus has been hit. That would then give more net time for DiPietro and Silovs. We need our young goalies getting game time, and that isn't happening if Martin is starting the majority of the games in the AHL. |
Halak has a NMC it’s not a question of another team taking him… it’s a question of him not waiving his NMC. He wanted a NMC for a reason so I don’t think he’s planning to waive it. You can’t really justify scratching him, that’s still using a roster spot/one of the 23 roster size limit spaces. This site is pretty cool… gives a overview of the cap hits for each line and defender pairing… our defence pairs are a joke. $26M on just our current dmen on ice alone and that’s without Poolman in the lineup (it’s $28M with him in the lineup). Entertaining/crazy story of how Demko got robbed at gunpoint while playing in Utica https://canucksarmy.com/2022/03/01/c...unpoint-utica/ |

Look around at what other teams are spending on their D vs the Canucks and what they are getting and it's just wtf. Add the NMC and NTC to that on top. |

I know some of y'all didn't like the BHM theme but I bought myself a t-shirt! I actually quite like the design. It's subtle and unique. |
What are your thoughts on this article from Matt Sekeres? Is there a team culture problem in the Canucks locker room? -article from the Daily Shit: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canu..._o0LuHGGFRTCKI The bigger question is how deeply does Jim Rutherford cut now? What are his assessments of this player group, particularly the Canucks core, which in three seasons together, is barely above .500. Because back in December, Canucks executive Stan Smyl outlined a culture of finger-pointing in the dressing room when the team was losing. That was shortly after Bo Horvat called some of his teammates “passengers.” More recently, new head coach Bruce Boudreau has bemoaned the team’s preparation, and new general manager Patrik Allvin has subtly questioned practice habits. Throw in former Canuck Jannik Hansen’s dour assessments of this group on weekly Vancouver radio hits, and you have signs pointing to a culture problem in the room. Therein lies the challenge now for Rutherford and his new administration. It’s not just getting more talent and more depth into a top-heavy organization, it’s also making a call on the culture. Who he wants to lead the next phase of Canucks hockey, and who is just too scarred by all the losing and dysfunction of seasons’ past. I don’t envy them. Making those calls are tough enough on hockey grounds. Even tougher when you have consider culture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Lol Sekeres just picking up scraps from media briefings. Go away already |
