That’s the least of his moves I would pick on, seemed like a good move at the time with Holtby gone… if Halak had 2 more wins and some run support at the beginning of the season we’d be singing his praises

pastarocket 03-21-2022 09:15 AM

The fact of the matter is that Halak has played horrible in 13 starts. He has an .886 save percentage with a record of 2-6-2.

He is a 36 year old goalie who's best days of his career are well behind them.

We definitely need an upgrade at the backup position.

It boggles my mind why Benning decided to give Halak a no movement clause given our team's salary cap situation.

Then Halak goes emo on the bench with Boudreau at the end of the second period of the game vs. Calgary about why he has to play the 3rd period of that game.

Does he really think that given his level of performance now, the team's performance, and the great urgency to win games to get a wild card spot that he thought that he would play in the Buffalo game??

The team in front of Halak when Halak plays has no confidence in him.

Boudreau has to play the goalie who gives them the best chance to win games. Games that the team needs to win badly. Demko was the right choice for the Buffalo game. Halak has to suck it up and just play the third period against Calgary.

Honestly, this goalie has not earned his current contract with his play this season. I doubt if he can elevate his play to earn his next NHL contract. LUL

Prior to the NYI game, he was a 0.916 save%. His starts could have been wins if the Nucks could score.

As 68 said, he's the least of the issues GMJB left the Canucks with.

68style 03-21-2022 10:15 AM

Yah man haha you hate Halak a lot but he had like 2 bad games. The NMC was just a respect contract for a guy who’s been in the league a long time… and nobody knew Spencer Martin was any good they were going in with DiPietro as the potential backup option and I don’t even think he’s on the depth chart anymore.

Remember the CBJ game he held us in for the big comeback, etc…

Canucks didn’t even score a goal in like 2 of his first 3 starts.

Brad Richardson coming back to VancouverEleGiggle

AzNightmare 03-21-2022 10:26 AM

DiPietro is just terrible...
I doubt he'll ever pan out as a NHLer imo. His AHL numbers are trash..

lmao....

Canucks' new strategy is to take Calgary players now.

Tim Budong 03-21-2022 10:30 AM

Halak is an odd problem to have
He's a gamble, especially considering his resume.
Sadly, it didn't work out and now here we are

Brad Richardson brings depth, he puts in the effort, will be valuable regardless where this team goes post deadline. But at this point, this move sounds like the team might try to go for it, OR... somoene like Motte is on the move

pastarocket 03-21-2022 10:31 AM

Habs and Oilers trade defencemen:

Bobby Margarita
@TSNBobMcKenzie
MTL is trading Brett Kulak to EDM for William Lagesson and a 2nd-round pick. Trade call not yet complete.

Yup, and it's only a 1 year deal. So if he walks at the end of the year, nothing lost because of the NMC.

If anything, it's a sign of bigger issues with the old management team and their poor talent assessment of the team or AQ had his hand that deep in the cookie jar.

winson604 03-21-2022 10:54 AM

Lol except Hak has bonuses that kicked in sonerre on the hook for it against our cap next year.

68style 03-21-2022 10:56 AM

The bad part of Halak is his bonus counting against next years cap, it’s always a bad look when you are paying for guys who aren’t on your team… but I believe they did it that way at the time just to get him in under the cap… there was no way he was going to start less than 10 games haha

BlackV62K2 03-21-2022 10:56 AM

Canucks got that playoff team now with Richardson & Dermott...

pastarocket 03-21-2022 11:07 AM

Drancer says Canucks are done for the day now.

Razor Ramon HG 03-21-2022 11:23 AM

Sad to see Motte go. Hope he resigns with us in the offseason.

Exactly, which goes back to the discussion of GMJB and the old team's poor assessment of the teams talent pool. All this talk of him being a great scout and stuff, end of the day his cap management is suspect, the drive to make the playoffs really hurt the team and will continue for a few more years.

I said it in 2019, the worst thing for the Nucks was for them to go on that run in the playoffs during the bubble. That caused a lot of people to think they were that close and had to spend $ and draft picks, money and picks that they didn't have or afford to trade away.

Is Motte only worth a 4th? Or am I just used to JB overpaying for players?

He's a UFA, so not bad for a rental player. Who knows, me might come back and re-sign with the nucks in the summer. LOL

But seriously, I don't think the nucks can afford him at $2.5-3M

Razor Ramon HG 03-21-2022 12:02 PM

Better to trade him now to get something back even if it's a 4th rounder. People already complaining that we traded him, but the same people would probably complain when he walks if we can't afford him.

Lol lets not forget where it all really started when we made the playoffs that first year of Willy D.

Did I hear Tyler Toffoli go to Calgary ... to torment the Canucks

That was 2 weeks ago?

68style 03-21-2022 01:38 PM

That was Feb 15! Lol

I expected more for Motte given what some other players have moved for

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the Canucks asked for too much and all the other teams walked away and the 4th was the best they could muster up.
