Looks like it's a bergen/hiking inspired style. Surprised that you haven't found one in the Arcteryx/Patagonia/fjallraven lines, as they're pretty outdoor inspired.

none of their offerings have multiple exterior pockets

Have a look at Peak Design bags - you can readily find them at London Drugs (some are on sale right now).

They're pricy but they offer lifetime warranty and have ton of exterior pockets meant for camera gear, but you can adapt accordingly.

good call for looking into camer bags but i find they all lack a water bottle pocket.

i spent the whole day deep diving into backpacks and ive narrowed it down to the thule all trail or the yeti ranchero

whitev70r 10-11-2025 08:31 AM

I thought it was Herschel or go home? So far, no one brought that brand up.

The Cotopaxi bags seem to get great reviews but I can't get over their garish colours. They do seem super practical and usable in the city and for travel.

I'm using a cheapass 40L bag of Amazon since I don't need it more than once a year anymore but I needed a frequent use 40L bag I'd probably go with the Cole-Haan 72 hour backpack (https://www.colehaan.com/72-hour-backpack/F12316.html). It's not the most practical but it's well built and I think it's a pretty attractive bag. The outlet store sometimes has it for 50%.

red kryptonite 10-11-2025 09:43 AM

ya those alpaca packs are ugly, but they do come in black. the cole haan are too stylish and not enough practicality for me, not even at 50% off.

noclue 10-11-2025 09:45 AM

what about tumi? check out the outlet in YVR

red kryptonite 10-11-2025 09:55 AM

waah so expensive!!!
this one is nice though.

whitev70r 10-11-2025 11:24 AM

Costco has a Briggs and Riley backpack that goes on sale every so often (I think like $299?)

Nothing is stylish about a backpack, a grown man shouldn’t be wearing one outside of traveling or school

68style 10-11-2025 08:50 PM

I used to wear one to work every day with my work laptop on the Canada Line… and not be one of those dicks that doesn’t take it off on a crowded train either!!!

I absolutely feel like a child when I wear mine lol. Having said that, I only wesr it while on vacation or when I'm out because of kids. Water bottles, hand wipes and other shit. Sometimes it'll be some sort of man purse for kids stuff but I absolutely hate it too.

Not the case at all. Hate to break it to you but 80% of grown men with laptops commuting to work are rocking backpacks.

Up until I couple years ago I was committed to my Porter messenger bag for commuting, but it did a number on my shoulder. Switched to a Timbuk2 and it changed my life lol.

My gf said the same thing when I was shopping around for a fanny pack/cross shoulder bag for travel. I had no idea this is what people think because I have plenty of coworkers who still use Herschel everywhere and for multiple products lol. Personally, I don't really care what people think. If I like the product, I'll use it.

That being said, I wouldn't mind looking into a water resistant/water proof backpack that is travel friendly.

A grown man doesn't give a shit about what other people think is stylish.

Badhobz 10-12-2025 09:25 AM

Exactly. Wear your Dora the explorer backup and Costco hoodie. Dats a real man.
